Gamepass is ruining gaming for me

There are too many games, I start a game, play it a little, even if I like it, the amount of games available makes me want to try something else... So I keep jumping from a game to another

Back when I played on pc only, I used to buy a game and play it until completion because I felt committed to my investment.

Currently playing control, prey, dishonored, doom eternal, cyber shadow, hollow knight, and the list goes on...

I went 2 days without playing doom eternal and now everything seems ultra hard because I lost the muscle memory...

Options aren't a bad thing. The problem is your unwillingness to settle on something and put the time in. Cancel GP if it is such a burden to you.

Thats a good problem to have though isnt it lol.
I get what you mean though, i'll check Netflix and cant decide what to watch, and just end up watching a streamer or somehting.

I used to have this exact problem with Steam sales and it's 90 per cent a state of mind. I got through it with a bit more organisation of my gaming time.

For instance, right now, I have maybe four or five games on the go - Spiderman DLC, Wreckfest, Fallout 4, Crash 4 and the original Doom. Each of them get a bit of my time.

But of those, I'm struggling to really love Crash 4, burned out on Spiderman and loving Wreckfest, so I'm playing Wreckfest the most. It doesn't matter. There's nothing riding on it. If I don't play Spidey again for a fortnight, I don't lose anything.

I just try not to take on any more than that, because that's when it starts getting really out of control. Something like Prey, for instance, that I've never played before and is decently long, needs more of my attention. It takes a bit of self-control, but it's improved my approach to this stuff immensely.

Now if anyone has any tips for dealing with Backlog anxiety, that I'd love to hear!

I have Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2, Street Fighter V, Doom TAG 2, Zelda Majoras Mask 3DS, GTA V and Torchlight 3 on my playlist currently. Some games get more time some less.
Tried to squeeze Control in it but failed (again).

Yeah, I was 100% committed to doom eternal, but this week we got prey, and dishonored... I need more self control

Drop everything and focus on Prey.

You're welcome.

I don't jump around, unless it's multiplayer of course. If I like a game I stick with it and can't wait to play it out.

My problem is hating side missions because I want to play the story out too much.

I get it. The only reason Fallout 4 is on that list is because I've been vaguely fancying a Fallout game and then there it was, ready to download.

It's just training yourself not to give into the "newness". That's good advice for most areas of life, tbh.

There was some study that I'm too lazy to find about how if someone has 12+ options for something, it becomes way harder to choose. Same reason people scroll through Netflix for hours without picking something.

It's totally a you issue, though, just pick a game and stick with it, or at least pick smaller games if you're gonna jump around. Yesterday/today I've been flicking between Donut County, Ape Out, Superhot 3, and Noita runs, because they're all great for that. If you're playing something like Prey you really should just focus on Prey until it's over.

edit: I think I misunderstood what the OP was going for

This is a good problem to have. You can't be mad at a service for giving you too many good games to play. No one is forcing you to not finish a game before moving on to another

Choice paralysis is real, you just need to pick one and stick with it, then go get another once you have had your fun with the first.
This ^

OP I use to have the same problem and my solution was just playing one game at a time. Sometimes I might add one multiple player game or sports game in between that game but for the most part I just play one game at a time.

I don't buy or even play attention to other games until I finish the game I am focused on. If you do it this way your not going to feel overwhelmed or waste money and time creating a endless backlog.

OP in a nutshell:

I felt the same when I got the PS5 and you just get a crapload of free games dumped on you with that PS Plus collection. Find something and determine to stick with it.

This kind of liberation has been really good for me. I've always been the kind of person to buy a game and play through it no matter if I liked it or not because I would feel guilty about not playing. But with Gamepass I play something, and if it doesn't click then I try something else. But if you find something awesome stick with it! I started Yakuza 0 and now 240 hours later I'm near the end of Yakuza Kiwami 2 and about to move onto 3. But of these games stop being fun I'll quit in a heartbeat, no guilt.......refreshing freedom!

Is this the subscription service equivalent of

?

There's a "small" difference though. With Steam sales you get to keep the games you buy forever but with 3rd party games on GP you're rushing to play as many as you can before they are removed from the service.

This is harder than you think. I have the same problem as the OP. If i try to concentrate on one game then i have always the feeling what if the other games are better then this one and i am wasting my time with this game. I start the next game and have again the same problem, what if the other games are better than this one and i wan't waste my time playing it.

They're usually on there for long as hell tho and give you a decent warning when being their gonna be removed

I know. Every time I finish a game it takes me a few days of playing a few hours of a few different games before I settle on the next game. Then I usually have to restart said game, because I can't remember how to play the fucking thing. 😅

Forever > "long as hell"
Some 3rd party games stay on the service for less than 6 months (RDR2 for example). Which is nothing if you want to play all the games that you want before they are removed especially if they are RPGs.

You can't compare it with playing a game that you own at your own leisure than rushing to finish as many as possible (like the OP is doing) when the clock is ticking.

OP, I understand. The issue is when you pay for a game you see it through to get your moneys worth.

With GamePass offering such an embarrassment of riches for so little money, the prerogative to complete it is diminished.

Of all the games op listed only Cyber Shadow and Hollow Knight are at risk of leaving.

Both are easily completable within the 2 week warning window.

This is why I tend to only download one or two games at a time, though I'm sometimes tempted to just put as much as I can on my drive.

Cool?I was talking about 3rd party games though and about the OP's mentality.

Someone compared Steam sales with Gamepass and i pointed out that they are not even remotely comparable.

I genuinely believe that Gamepass and subscription services are the future of game consoles. The sooner they push for that and build a foundation for the future the better. Sony should merge PS Now and PS+ into one service and ditch the stupid cloud model.

This is why I play one game at a time. I don't move on to the next game till I feel 100% satisfied that I'm finished with my current.

On the upside, you're no longer one of those dummies who buys every game that comes out at full price and then whines about the backlog they'll never get to.

When i hear about these topics i have a theory.

To put it simple, you didn't really found a game that you really love in the GP catalogue because let me tell you one thing, when you REALLY like a game, you play only that one until its finished.

Do you think that the monster hunter fanboys with gamepass are gonna play anything besides MH rise after the 26 march even if they have hundreds of games on GP?! NO! not even the ones with the attention span of a 4 years old.

Or in my case, nothing is gonna distract me when Horizon 2 is gonna come out.

So continue your search, you clearly haven't found the right one.

This theory is strictly related to the fact that non-casual gamers (leaving aside the cringe etc., you know what i mean) usually buy the games they REALLY like at day one or shortly later, even if they are like 1-2 every year, so what you find in the GP catalogue are good, great even incredible games that you really never considered must buys to begin with, so now you are just going throught the motion.

(of course this theory doesn't apply when you can't physically buy games at launch for money problem etc.)

But maybe that's just me because all the games i tried on gamepass weren't must buys for me, just moderately interesting titles.

like i said, just a theory.

Red dead was the exception. I've never ran into that issue once personally.

It reminds me of back in the day with a Speccy when you would get a C90 tape loaded with games and work your way through them, trying each one for a short while, then returning to the ones i really liked to play for longer.
