The question is whether im too late to get the hp deal or a clevo/sager computer in the sense that it takes too much time to build and ship them. What is the standard delivery time?

6970M, all day. At 1080p Max settings, the 6970M and GTX 485M take turns winning games. I updated mine to WHQL 11.4 drivers, and it's now even faster.

Which CPUs are you choosing? I'm having a hard time seeing where all of the extra money went, on the 6970M build.

Are you buying from Kobalt.

At the $1k budget, you might as well pony up the extra money, to buy the NP8130 w/ cash discount.

You get an i7 quad, and a significantly faster CPU (think at least 60% faster).

I'd guess you can run all games that support it at 120 fps (assuming it was old enough to get such a framerate on the laptop) which is nice, and the display refreshes at 120hz, so even stuff like scrolling on a web browser or moving the mouse cursor should look smoother. 60hz bothers some people, even on LCD monitors strangely, nice to see laptops coming with 120hz ones, I'd like to believe my next monitor will definitely be 120hz, though running maxed out games at 120fps is probably not too cheap...

I don't know how to translate desktop > laptop, I'll leave that to K.Jack, but best guess for playing TW2 smoothly @ ultra is a quadcore 3Ghz+ CPU & a GTX 460 or better (470+ would be ideal) if possible. Hopefully that helps your post get answered.

It will, TW1 was awful. It needs a fast CPU and good GPU, your biggest problem on a laptop is trying to get a 4Ghz clock on the CPU, and multi-core does almost nothing for TW1.

Plus running the lowest settings on TW2 looks better than TW1 maxed, so even turning stuff down to medium or high should still look great.

I never imagined that we'd see this power go mobile in 2011. We should be set, to run The Witcher 2 at near mac settings.

That is pretty great. A 6850 falls between a GTX 460 & 470, so you'll definitely have a good shot at TW2 at ultra settings, just make sure you have a dedicated 1GB or more of video ram as TW2 uses 2048x2048 textures on Ultra, which will destroy cards with not enough RAM (of course you can just lower the texture settings if that happens though).

Having major problems getting them to honor this. They're telling me that since its already "in progress" (which it's "been in" since like the day after i ordered it (apr 21) ) they cannot make any changes to the order.

What the fuck.. So i can cancel the order and go through the hassle of creating a new order with the free brd, but not just have them give me the upgrade on my current order...

I've just noticed that in the benchmarks, Nvidia cards have alot less pixel shaders in them than ATI cards. Card structure? How big is this significance?

AMD uses 5-dimensional shaders, so the counts always look higher.

You can roughly (I mean roughly) divide their shaders by 5, to get what may be the Nvidia equivalent.

I know it probably won't cut as 'gaming laptop' but I think with 720p resolution it can handle games pretty well. =D

I got this for travelling, except with an i7 2620M (dual core) rather than a quad core. It's not great for games, but certainly passable, which is more than can be said of any other laptop I've owned. It's not too far behind my desktop, which is a C2D E8500 @3.85GHz with a radeon 4870 gpu.

Sony has always opted-out of the AMD's public driver program. It sucks. You have to wait for them to release their own certified driver.

The 4870 is three times the speed of the GT 425M. If yours isn't, something is gravely wrong.
