Can you tell me exactly where the 6770m stands in terms of what cards it compares to for nvidia, desktop cards, etc?
And how overclockable it is? I haven't really been able to find benchmarks on it..
Thanks man, you're great!
Desktop-wise, call it 10, maybe 15% faster than the 9800 GT.IMACOMPUTA said:Hey K.Jack,

I think you also have to watch out for currents and voltages if you take it back to franceGeeker said:I live in France, but will be in nyc for a week at the end of may. I would like to send money to my friends there and have them buy me a laptop as it is significantly cheaper.
The question is whether im too late to get the hp deal or a clevo/sager computer in the sense that it takes too much time to build and ship them. What is the standard delivery time?
My budget is around 1000 dollars
What about this one?

it has nVidia GT 555M 2048MB PCI-Express GDDR3 DX11 with Optimus Technology, any good?
Thanks for a nice thread in any case
6970M, all day. At 1080p Max settings, the 6970M and GTX 485M take turns winning games. I updated mine to WHQL 11.4 drivers, and it's now even faster.nelsonroyale said:What do you guys think is the better option:

Or
8GB RAM,
GTX 485,
Quad Core,
500 GB standard HD,
2 year parts replacement warranty, with 2 year parts:
£1,541.00 inc
The more I read up, the more I feel the difference between the 6970 and 485 is negligible... Hell, from almost all the benchmarks I have seen Crysis 1 and 2 appear to run very marginally better on the AMD card. Which do you think I should plum for?

You know where I can get it? I can't find it for sale on any of the sites I've checked. Going to get it in about two weeks but wanna be prepared.gdt5016 said:In that price range, seems like the DV6/DV7 w/the 6770 GPU is the best deal.

I'm fine with it taking a while if it's got good specs. Just want to know how to grab one.gdt5016 said:Dunno. Everyone here ordered it custom from HP. Don't think that's what you're looking for (building and shipping takes weeks).

If yours hasn't been shipped yet, they still have to honor that deal. Call them and get your free drive.gdt5016 said:Oh sorry, I confused you with someone else.

Customize->GPU->6770. Make sure to search for coupons on.....logicbuy? I think that's the website. Or just google. Dunno what the current price is, I ordered mine (with coupons) for $834 on 4/19.
Edit: Oh wow, it now comes with a free BRD player installed. Dammit.
At 720p, yes.Tricky I Shadow said:Does anyone know if the ASUS N53SV can run Resident Evil 5 at top settings?

#1, easily. The GPUs are too close to cal, but you get a 120Hz display and the Blu-ray drive.Corky said:Hey boys, two choices.

Which CPUs are you choosing? I'm having a hard time seeing where all of the extra money went, on the 6970M build.
Are you buying from Kobalt.
nelsonroyale said:Thanks for the feedback man.
Any thoughts on the config? I want to be able to play Crysis and Witcher 2 at near max. I usually take eye candy over frame rate hehe....hence how I was playing Crysis on my XPS1530 on custom configs with motion blur, and full textures and shadows hehe. Actually played through it on Delta haha
Minsc said:I don't know how to translate desktop > laptop, I'll leave that to K.Jack, but best guess for playing TW2 smoothly @ ultra is a quadcore 3Ghz+ CPU & a GTX 460 or better (470+ would be ideal) if possible. Hopefully that helps your post get answered.
nelsonroyale said:As long as it runs better than the Witcher 1...damn that game is nothing special technically, but runs even worse than crysis on my XPS1530

Yeah, I am definitely partial to the 6970M. I am looking at Kobalt:
Here are the extras above base price (£1099)
Intel 2630QM (+£93)
AMD 6970 (+£43)
8 GB Ram (+£54)
500 GB Seagate Momentus XT + 4GB SSD (+£44)
3 year European Collect & Return Warranty (+£70)
Thats how I end up at £1463.80...I am self-employed at the mome, so thinking I may be able to get VAT back.
The 3 year warranty I want, because my blasted XPS1530 had quite a number of problems in its 3year...pity I have been in Chile for the past few months and the last year of my warranty has meant didly squat.

Minsc said:I'd guess you can run all games that support it at 120 fps (assuming it was old enough to get such a framerate on the laptop) which is nice, and the display refreshes at 120hz, so even stuff like scrolling on a web browser or moving the mouse cursor should look smoother. 60hz bothers some people, even on LCD monitors strangely, nice to see laptops coming with 120hz ones, I'd like to believe my next monitor will definitely be 120hz, though running maxed out games at 120fps is probably not too cheap...

I play Crysis on 1080p Very High, with a 27fps average.
The 6970M is a desktop 6850 with lower clocks. 6970M = 680/900, 6850 = 775/1000. I have overclocked my 6970M to 800/1000.
I never imagined that we'd see this power go mobile in 2011. We should be set, to run The Witcher 2 at near mac settings.

You know what? I've never had a very decent computer, so custom configs have never crossed my mind. Where do you start? Is there a go-to config?nelsonroyale said:Thanks man. By very high on Crysis, I take it you mean crazy custom configs? Crysis on standard very high looks a bit piss compared to some of the awesome configs out there
How did you overclock yours? Is there greater chance of overheating/other downsides to doing this?
We're good. The 6970M has 2GB GDDR5.Minsc said:That is pretty great. A 6850 falls between a GTX 460 & 470, so you'll definitely have a good shot at TW2 at ultra settings, just make sure you have a dedicated 1GB or more of video ram as TW2 uses 2048x2048 textures on Ultra, which will destroy cards with not enough RAM (of course you can just lower the texture settings if that happens though).
K.Jack said:Man that's not right. While waiting for my notebook, there came a free 8GB RAM upgrade. I was able to call and they were more than willing to give me the deal. If it hasn't beem put in a box yet, updating the optical drive will take 5 minutes.

I know it probably won't cut as 'gaming laptop' but I think with 720p resolution it can handle games pretty well. =D

" The following notebooks are not compatible with this release:

Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel® chipsets.
Toshiba® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
Panasonic® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)

So what the fuck does this mean?
edit : regarding vaio bloatware : is it just better to do a format from the getgo or can I remove the shit simply by uninstalling it?
edit : " Graphics Driver (ATI) - 8.723.8.2 64 bits
229.12 MB 19/11/2010"
thats the latest drivers I can find for my laptop on Sonys site.
What

going
on?
The 4870 is three times the speed of the GT 425M. If yours isn't, something is gravely wrong.Open Source said:I got this for travelling, except with an i7 2620M (dual core) rather than a quad core. I want a gaming solution that'll take care of BF3, Diablo 3, and Rage, as well as any other hot stuff that is coming in the next couple years. And I want it to be a beast.
I'm also looking more towards a laptop though.
Have you guys checked out the M18x (now on the alienware site) and compared it to the other laptops they offer? For example, would I be better off going with a mid-range one and upgrading the hell out of it? I don't care at all about the 3D gaming, or the wireless HDMI really...
Well maybe I care about the wireless HDMI. That sounds sick...
Oh. And the budget is kinda whatever... as long as it's reliable and ass-kicking.
