hmmmdonuts said:This seems like a really good deal. The only reason why I'm hesitating is due to the reviews at Newegg. A significant amount of people, are having problems with the power button (the laptop doesn't even turn on). Could this be why we're getting such a good deal?
Before possibly jumping on this deal, I was thinking of just waiting until black Friday, for the absolute best deals. Or, is this deal too good to pass up?
Thanks
I'm thinking about getting the G74SX myself. Anyone have any impressions of it? In particular I wonder how the keyboard feels, what the viewing angle on the screen is like, and how the colors are out of the box. Also, could a GeForce GTX 560M (2GB) graphics chip play Amnesia: The Dark Descent at full settings? And would the game look good at 1,600 by 900 (720p HD) resolution on a 17.3-inch screen? That's the main game I'd want to play. That's part of the draw, along with simply having a computer that does basic things faster (which I imagine it would do with 8GB, versus the 2005 budget Dell laptop I'm using now).Kuroyume said:I'm looking for a laptop to replace my ancient PC and I was wondering if you guys could help me pick a good one. I'm looking to spend upwards of $1,200 or a bit more (after taxes/shipping etc). I would prefer something in the $900-$1050 range. I was looking at these:

Anyone have any opinion of these or a better suggestion?

On sale, and I LOVE the design. This is, the laptops battery is built in, is that good or bad?
It's either the HDD or the cooling fan. If you hear the fan running independently of the grinding, it's the HDD.bs000 said:My Acer AO522 netbook started making loud clicking noises today. I left it on sleep mode overnight, so I turned it off for awhile and when I turned it back on it still made the clicking noises, but now it was almost a like crunching sound. First thought was of course dying HDD, but I've had the thing new for less than a month. I did a disk check in Windows with no problems and now the clicking seems to have disappeared. Should I still be concerned? Any advice aside from "start backing up your files"?
edit: I lied. The clicking is back. Save me laptopGAF

I'm looking for a laptop, some gaming would be nice but it isn't the highest priority, I just want a fast, good looking and easy too use laptop. I have to buy it from Newegg since i have a giftcard there.
I'm looking for something between 600-800 bucks. I want somewhere between 14-16" Here are some models i glanced on:

$1100 is the highest I'm willing to spend at this point, and I'm also open to look at other models that either are lower priced for similar specs or have higher specs for a similar price, if anyone knows something off hand.
Since you can wait, I'd do just that. The new Intel/AMD tech coming early next year will make current netbook graphics looks anemic.99hertz said:Hello, I'm looking for netbook (or laptop that isn't too heavy) with long battery life (for programming and writing things) and can play some games. I have been looking around and on CompUSA (not online) there's the Asus 1215b for $312. Also there's the HP Pavilion dm1-4010us but the price difference is more than $200 after taxes (that's ok but I wouldn't want to be wasteful).
These are the netbooks:

I can wait until January or February but I don't know if I should just buy the 1215b right now. I have been searching for videos with games running on the 4010us but I can't find nothing, so I don't know if spending money for it is worth it. I would be happy with just playing Source games smoothly (I don't mind low or mid settings).
If you guys have any other recommendations (that are below $500), I would be happy to hear them.
The GTX 560M will do well. You should be looking at high settings.AppleSmack said:Guys I'm looking for a desktop replacement laptop for a total of 1100-1300 dollars that will allow me to run BF3 on high settings. Any suggestions. I'm Canadian so please take into consideration canadian pricing.
Right now im strongly considering the Sager 8130 from this website:

Has a 560m. How well will that run modern games and battlefield 3?

It costs about U$900. Honestly it's all I can afford right now. I know this isn't going to run the latest games on high settings but I'd settle for running stuff in low resolutions. I'm not a Crysis-Rage kind of guy (i.e. latest games running at the craziest settings) but I'd love to be able to play not-so-recent RPGs (Witcher, Two Worlds II, Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1, etc) and I wouldn't mind if it manages to run Skyrim with low-mid settings.Dell Inspiron 15R said:Intel Core i7-2670M 2.2GHz /1333 MHz DDR3, GT2, 650-1300 MHz Gfx Turbo/ 6M

Ivy Bridge and next-gen AMD Fusion are good places to start.99hertz said:Thanks, I guess it now depends on how much I can wait. Got any links/information about the new tech? Would like to know a bit about what's coming from both Intel and AMD.

The T420 is an excellent piece of hardware, very good choice. And the SSD makes it one of the very top considerations for business users. And the good thing is that you can WoW flawlessly on it.duk said:not a gaming laptop but just got my lenovo T420 with I5 and 4gb ram 150gb SSD

The G53 is a solid pick. You may want to also consider the Sager NP8130.Loxley said:Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new laptop in the $1,000- $1,400 range that will double both as a workstation for Photoshop/Illustrator work as well as gaming (which will most likely be Skyrim and Battlefield 3 in the near future).
Right now my front-runner is this ASUS G53SX-XA1, the Core i7 processor and GTX 560m seem like decent options given the comparatively not-too-shabby price-tag of $1,159.99. I'm not a tech expert but I can only assume that combo will be enough to run Skyrim and BF3 at a decent frame-rate without the visuals taking a complete beating with the ugly-stick (although since Bethesda has yet to release the minimum specs for Skyrim, I'm just assuming for now).
Battery life isn't that big of a concern, I've heard these normally have around 3.5 hours as long as you don't try to do anything too heavy, which is fine. I'm opting for the 15.6 inch over the 17 inch because I do plan on connecting this to an external monitor, so I don't need a gargantuan screen that would completely negate the idea of a portable computer.
Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

K.Jack said:I highly recommend that you spend the extra $65 for the 95% NTSC glossy screen. It's amazingly beautiful, and you'll regret passing on it.
It's the absolute best 15" notebook screen available, that isn't an IPS panel.
THE NO LIFE KING said:Has anybody dealt with Nvidia Optimus? Just got a Alienware M11x with Optimus and shit is pain in the ass to get it working for some reason. Its that all my games are from Steam and some games load and some don't? Even with games like Portal or TF2 (on high settings), the framerate will chug some, (which I'm expecting that those games are running in the Integrated Graphics instead of Nvidia.) Other than having problems with getting the games to run properly, this laptop is really impressive and quick to boot. I have a I7 processor as well with (Turbo Boost). Any way to enable it/overclock?
