Games you've played that you wish you could play again for the *first* time

this would also require me being 15 and having previously never read a good book. shit blew my mind.

Final Fantasy VI

I have started the game several times on emulator over the years, but my save file always get fucked up eventually. I just can't stand the first 10-20 hours of the game and thus I'll never see the end of it.

That said, a nice DS or PSP remake could do the trick, especially if they rework the battle system and make it much more dynamic and don't put a fight every 2 seconds.

This. Amazing game, and probably the best looking game ever when it launched in Nov 2002. Splinter Cell mightve had better lighting, but Prime floored me with its robust environments- beautiful graphics and sound lead to amazing atmosphere.

Fallout games definitely, it's not the same to play them when you know every nook and cranny.

Also, Baldur's Gate 2, preferably after I finish the original this time.

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy XI
Xenogears
Legend of Legaia
Thief III
Baten Kaitos
Heavenly Sword

I could go on and on but these are the ones off the top of my head. Each one of these games brought me a fresh experience at the time I played them that caught me off guard and wow'd me for one reason or another.

I waited until last year to play Xenogears..I totally missed out on it back in the PS1 era and decided to give it a go. I was completely blown away by it..even now it's still a great game with a great, complex story.

As a big fan of dinosaurs, i always thought something was missing in Gaming (even if Jurassic Park was out, and some science book) until this ...

Castlevania: Symphony of The Night. Simply putt: when I for the first time entered Alchemy Lab and heard the tones of Dance of Gold, I instantly knew that this game would be more awesome than I could´ve imagined it to be. One of the best parts in the game, including the bossfight with Belzeebub and hearing the tones of Wood Carving Partia in Draculas Library. SOTN is magic...

gonna say shenmue man! I remember going down to an import shop and buying the japanese version 2 days after it was released. Shop was packed and everyone was amazed what they were watching on screen. Got my £70 out and got my copy, one guy said to me I was crazy as it was all Japanese and unplayable.

Got home, put the disc in and just walked around the town for hours in pure amazement.

probably starfox, or super metroid.

My 14 year old self would love it sooo much. Again.

Actually the incredible replay value of starfox 64 would probably not make me wish to play it again for the first time. Every time you play it the game still feels so fresh.
In all honesty I would say that game has the best combination of replay value and ability to still be fun over time of any game in existence.

However, that reminds me, Ogre Battle 64.

My top three would have to be: Halo, Bioshock and KOTOR. Such great experiences. I loved them from beginning to end.

I typically savor and fully complete all games that I purchase, so I'd have to go back to when games were just games. When I was 5, Super Mario World and King's Quest VI pulled me in. Fully beating Super Mario World with my younger brother is 1 of my fondest memories as a kid, since we don't have much in common, so I wouldn't trade that. King's Quest VI, however, was really hard for a 5-year old (and I got the best ending). I'd love to have gone through the 1st time much more quickly to make it more fun.

I'll be broad here but I'll say nothing beats that first time of playing a MMORPG as a complete newbie. Every following MMO you play loses some of that mystique and wonder that was present when just starting out. Also doesn't help how newer MMOs are becoming a bit more casual friendly, so it is difficult to get hopelessly lost or not be able to get your body back when you died; in other words you lose that sense of caution when exploring the world. No MMO since EQ has really managed to capture that sense of wonderment for me when exploring the world, though WoW did a good job but I had a good deal of the information about the areas ahead of time which greatly spoiled the experience for me.

I agree with you 100%. Nothing beats my UO/EQ days. No minimaps. Not knowing how to do anything, right off the bat. Once you learn how MMORPGs operate, it's easy to step into the next one and be competent almost immediately.

But to the OP, if I could use a time machine and do this, I'd play Diablo, then UO and then EQ. My holy trinity of gaming.

i gonna answer with some of the games that has little to no replay value (but are very good)

off the top of my head

- first GoW
- Vagrant Story
- Xenogears
- FFVII (as in playing JRPGs for the first time)

so much more that i'm sure others will list

I feel you there. My brother and I have been at odds for years, and so I remember quite fondly playing the first Super Mario Kart alongside with him, beating the game with all gold cups, then competing for weeks to see who could finish the first track in the least amount of time. It was the only game that both of us were really hardcore about together. Good times. I miss them.
