Games you've played that you wish you could play again for the *first* time

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Sunshine
Phoenix Wright (all three)
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

You're going to want to do this with pretty much any good game without a great replay value or a game where the premise is unique and refreshing.

SoulReaver

first played it on the PS1, then played it again on the DC, then played it again on the PC...

wish I could have played it on the PC first

gonna say shenmue man! I remember going down to an import shop and buying the japanese version 2 days after it was released. Shop was packed and everyone was amazed what they were watching on screen. Got my £70 out and got my copy, one guy said to me I was crazy as it was all Japanese and unplayable.

Got home, put the disc in and just walked around the town for hours in pure amazement.

omg sounds like my experience. I ended up playing through the entire thing with a guide online. God I loved it so much. Not as much though when it was ported to US shores and I found out the people and Ryu like to say the same shit over and over lol. Still amazing though. Hate hate hate hate US voice actors in it :(

this makes me want to reset my life just to be able to experience the awesomeness of this game again. Everytime i put in the cardridge in my old game boy and hear the intro music i get goosebumps because it reminds me HOW FUKIN AWSOM IT IS!

that intro will forever be my favorite Nintendo moment of all times. It last like 15 seconds, but it's so incredible I used to turn on the GB just to rewatch it.

girl slowly walking on the beach..sees a guy..runs and tries to wake him..camera pans up while the music goes all crescendo until BOOM, the Mountain and the legendary Zelda theme kicks in. Cinematic, epic, superb. Perfect.

I loved this game...

I had this experience this past week. Truly unbelievable. And today I was looking at a plot summary to see if I had missed anything important, and I noticed that I had completely missed the
part where EVA tells you about Ocelot's mother and her scar, since that kinda explains something big
.
Pretty big thing to miss O.o

Final Fantasy VII

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

Zelda II A link to the past

NCAA Football 2004 (it went all downhill from there)
Not sure if you mean A Link to the Past or Adventure of Link (since AoL is Zelda II :P and a great game).

Oh, and I pick Metroid Prime.

Shenmue. I nearly shat a brick when I watched the intro for the first time, realtime, before my eyes. I couldn't believe it.

Chrono Trigger, and Shadow of the Colossus.

Also, Halo: CE. The second level, particularly. Oh, the sunlight going through tree branches, wow.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Star Control 2. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

And not exactly for the first time, but I'd give just about anything to relive the days of Guild Wars' Beta Weekend Events.

In roughly chronological order... (for when I played the games, not when they came out)

Commander Keen in: Invasion of the Vorticons Episode I: Marooned on Mars!

Quest for Glory: So You Want To Be A Hero (VGA)

Star Wars: TIE Fighter CD-ROM Collection

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Super Mario 64 (first played)

Starcraft

Super Mario 64 (bought)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Baldur's Gate

Planescape: Torment

Guild Wars (the open alphas/betas particularly)

Also worth mentioning: Star Wars: Jedi Knight/Mysteries of the Sith, Fire Emblem (7), Metroid Prime, Super Mario World, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Rez, Ikaruga, and more I'm sure.

Some obvious answers would be Metroid Prime or Halo.

I think I'd go with Phantasy Star Online though, touching down in the forest for the first time with some buddies was indescribably awesome. Not to mention the boss fights on the first go round, felt so epic at the time.

Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4 and Ace Attorney 1 and 3 come to mind. Metroid Prime was the first game where I really thought, "Wow, I wish I could erase my memories of this and play it fresh." RE4 even more so.

I'm probably in the minority, but invariably, every game that I love, I loved more the second time I played it. A great game is special when it's fresh, but a great game that I understand and really know how to play, is something special. So my answer is none.

Pretty much every single-player game I've ever liked. Maybe exactly every single-player game I've ever liked.

But I suppose if I really had to narrow it down, I could give special mention to single-player games that only have one save file, but have so much stuff to do that I'd never want to erase my file to start a new game. So I guess that leaves The World Ends With You and that's pretty much it.

Many games are like that, in that I enjoy them much more now than I used to/when I played them the first time. But for a couple of games, I've simply played them too many times (the 2 I've posted about easily fall into that category), and would love to wipe that part of my memory clean.

That doesn't hold true for every game that I love, but my current list of favorites is invariably made up of games that are just as or more enjoyable on subsequent playthroughs: God Hand, F-Zero X, Contra III, Resident Evil 4. The common denominator here is that these games are all difficult; absolute mastery is one of the joys associated with their respective replays.

I guess if I could go back to any one first-time playthrough it would be Ocarina of Time. It would have to take place in 1998 as well (when the scope and graphics were impressive).

Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Final Fantasy VI
Metal Gear Solid 3
Phantasy Star III (have kids' attributes based on who you marry? that's one fun mechanic I haven't seen in a while)

I wanna dive in fresh into every game I moderately enjoy, to be honest. But if I only had to choose I few, I guess I'd go with:

*MGS2
*MGS1
*MGS3
*Final Fantasy VIII
*Suikoden II

I try to replay the Metal Gear games at least once a year.

Super Mario Bros 3
The Legend of Zelda
Doom I&II
Sonic 2
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Warcraft II
Super Mario 64
Final Fantasy VII
Resident Evil 2
Starcraft
Metal Gear Solid
The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
Metroid Prime
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (w/ friends)
Resident Evil 4
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Portal

Shenmue
Nothing comes close to the excitement I had when I first got to play this game, and that feeling never went away. I'd love to play it again for the first time.

A bit weird but the first game i thought of that i wanted to have unplayed was Daisenryaku VII for the Xbox.

Also i would want to have Oblivion unplayed, if i never figured out how to do the invisibility-armor that for me totaly destroyed any challenge this game offered.

I would seriously love to re-experience the Giygas battle from Earthbound for the first time again. Nothing will ever match the incredible experience of fighting him without knowing how to defeat him.

Also, experiencing Super Metroid anew would be great.
