I can easily imagine MS giving him a call though,
since they're really desperate in beating PS4 in sales.
Something like the Scalebound deal with MS and Kamiya.

Im not really sure if MS is something he would want. Even though many PS4 titles have been somewhat meh right now, they do foster first party development far more than MS. Kojima also has experience with Sony and Yoshida, back when they did games exclusively for it.

Why do some people want Sony/MS/Nintendo to get Kojima?

If you enjoy Kojima's work, shouldn't you want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy and experience his games?

Exclusivity sucks. I love many games and I am always happy to see others enjoying themselves with it as well.

Everyone should be able to play Kojima's games. Going multiplatform with GZ & PP is one of the best things for the franchise.

And I am sure folks at KojiPro want their games to be played by as many people as possible.

No one should "snatch" them. They should be supported but not put in a walled garden.

Do you think Sony is going to give him the control he wants?

It would be glorious but I mean he is in uncharted waters now. Kojima working on non-mgs related things. Will they sell? Hell yes they will. Will they sell like MGS? Thats the million dollar question.

I do. They tend to give a lot of freedom to their developers, especially the ones who've proved their skill.

Very minor thing someone probably already noted, but the P.T. site hasn't experienced any changes yet. Still has Kojima Productions Now Hiring at the bottom of the site still : (

Since we don't now what Nintendo is actually working on ... As long as he won't go PC exclusive I am fine with what he is doing.

I have little faith in Nintendo wanting to do anything special in hardware. Wii, Wii-U, N64. I mean they gave up CD technology. They are not at all interested in hardware advancements.

Could they prove us wrong? Yes. But I highly doubt it given their history.

Kojima being relagated to Sony would be awful. He shouldn't join any of the big 3 really. (Especially MS)
Id rather see him retire or just start his own company up.

A PS4 exclusive Kojima game? Yeah that's going to move a few PS4's.

Any of the three console manufacturers would benefit from Kojima working for them, I can imagine there's going to be a lot of wooing Kojima going on now, from a lot of different companies.

You'd rather have 0 games from him than exclusive games? Come on, that doesn't make any sense.

Wow... definitely wasn't expecting this.

doesn't bode well for the future of Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders, Silent Hill and many other Konami offerings.

This move is as if Shigeru Miyamoto were to leave in the 90's. Konami's AAA business is dependent on Kojima productions

Well i hope Kojima next endeavors put him in a similar position such as Platinum (Kamiya), Vahalla (Itagaki), Tango Gameworks (Mikami), etc. In control of his own company and able to create without corporate bureaucracy.

This is sounding worse than Bungie fucking over Marty O'Donnell. How are these companies so bad with such major talent?

Meh, they were exclusive to varying degrees right up until Konami killed it. Exclusivity is the least of anyone's worries and if a platform holder can give the money that Kickstarter/indie/smaller pubs can't, so be it. Kojima's ideas aren't cheap and it's not like MGS had a reputation for being multiplatform.

Konami has so much to jump off from now with all his teams work. The major groundwork is done, they can milk that for a good while if they care about it anymore. What a kick in the face.

I'd rather them be limited to a "walled garden" and have the freedom that Sony allows their other studios like Naughty Dog to operate under. Rather than an alternative like EA or Activision where theres guaranteed DLC pushing and freemium bullshit forced in.

I think it'll be interesting to see what Kojima's Evil Within/ Mighty No.9 will be.

On a related note, I also really want to know what Ueda will be doing post-Sony.

damn, end of a god damn era. I guess this means silent hills likely isn't happening and metal gears solid v, really will be the last metal gear. After that, konami will likely move to developing strictly mobile titles and lending their licenses to pachinko machines. All I can say is, thanks for the years of tactical espionage action, I cant wait to see what he does out side of konami. This really is the end of an era.

I don't think ANY first party is going to do any kind of exclusive deal with him. It makes no sense. That includes Sony, even though they have a long working relationship with Kojima. He's not going to want to give anyone control over his new ip, which makes working with Kojima on an exclusive level EXTREMELY expensive.

And yes, Microsoft's interest is NOT in the Japanese market because that's where they are failing miserably, so they're most certainly NOT going to bankroll a Japanese developer. MGS does well here, but it doesn't do as well as Gears or Halo. It seems like a complete delusion to even think Microsoft would bat an eye at trying to exclusively acquire a Kojima property.
Bankrolling AAA games nowadays is extremely expensive. Getting private investors together is probably doable for him but it's almost certainly easier to just do a deal with a publisher. The question is which publisher is going to give him the best deal in terms of freedom and money.

Well considering they're having Platinum Games working on an exclusive game right now, they're definitely not adverse to paying a Japanese studio. Also MGS is certainly on the level of Gears in the States. Judgement didn't exactly break bank.

Oh yeah, dude. Totally. Publicly traded companies are always pulling PR stunts where they fake important people leaving their company. Traders LOVE that shit!

Haha! Spot on!

This isn't PR. This is a company deciding to move in a different direction than some of their major players.

I am excited to see what Kojima does next even if it isn't video game related.

Console warriors would rather have what is best for them than what is best for gaming.

Not that I want any exclusivity over Kojima's work, but why wouldn't them? Doesn't Sony basically give control to directors to a fault - see TLG

TLG?

My freaking God. Could the industry even be able to contain the amount of awesome generated by such a unholy union?

I know a lot of people say Nintendo. I do not think Nintendo is a good fit for Kojima and his team unless they go all in on a decently good hardware platform. Kojima does like his uber awesome toys and I just do not see Nintendo giving him the tech specs he likes to play with.

Thats true. He always speaks about how technological advancement enables him to create what he had in mind years ago and what he always wanted to create. Sony would be a better choice for him and for us.

Whatever he chooses to do next, i hope he does it with Yoji with him. I feel sad, because he and his people have been working on Fox Engine for years, thinking that at last they will have a universal engine that they can work with and port it to future platforms. What will happen with the engine now? :(
If he is going to open a new studio it will be lame to work with another engine, but it will cost him to use Fox Engine....
So many possible paths, so many thoughts....

Kojima going to Sony is what could be best for gaming in regards to him having creative control, they also have Morpheus. It's going to be Destiny all over again if he goes to EA,Acti or Ubi.

You know what would be better than going to Sony? Going to an open platform like PC.

What? How was Activision responsible for Destiny being bad? All of that should be laid at Bungie's feet. The Destiny deal was super good for Bungie.

I hope that he and his team find a home with a big publisher or one of the console makers. His ideas need big money, so I hope he finds that kind of funding and support.

About fucking time Kojima left. Maybe he can make something other than Metal Gear for once. Should have ended it at MGS4. Forget the haters, MGS4 was the best ending for such a ridiculous franchise.

marketing stunt, don't believe everything you read on the internet.

they said they pushed the release date back to have more time to market mgs5 and somehow now this drops....

With what resources? Id rather have him make something other than indie games.

We have never seen the final contract or how Activision influenced Bungie with it's corporate bs. It's proof enough that you go from Halo to Borderlands-lite, they fucked up everything in that game aside from technical stability.

worst thing about this is not the future of mgs, which already has a solid legacy but the new silent hill that had immense potential, which is now going down the drain for sure...

If they really go through with this, I give konami 5 years in the console market.
