Once David Hater was let go, you knew Kojima was next. Those 2 should get together and work on a spiritual successor to MGS2 along with Cerny. Hot Tub ready for that.

Is Konami fucking stupid?

Or is this another Kojima mindfuck.

Whatever it is, a sad day for Konami, not gaming. I'm sure Kojima will find new (better) publishers.
Yeah, he'll land on his feet I am sure. But he won't have access to MGS lore anymore. I am all for new stuff like the next guy but it's a shame that he will not be able to work on (inevitable) MGS games anymore.

Wish all people who will be "let go" the best. This could very well lead to much bigger troubles for Konami in the future and thus now unaffected Konami workers as well.
This was a very bad decision by the management if true. You don't show your power by force but try to work with people together.
This is not healthy management.

Kojima had the golden touch. Dude's a mastermind. He really is one of the few who deserve all the praise - even if his games are not for everyone.
He played a big role in cinematic gaming. Yeah, hurr-durr cinematic gaming. I don't think many people know what kind of impact and freshness MGS1 brought us.

No MGS game will be the same without everyone at KojiPro and no KojiPro game will be the same without MGS characters and lore. If he decides to do another stealth-action game that is.

A real bummer. Our resident ShiraToshin (sorry if I remember wrong) is definitely bummed about this as well. I am so very, absolutely positive that most Konami folks are angry about this like us.
You guys for sure know more how important KojiPro is for Konami and that their departure will have grave consequences in the future for Konami.

Sad, sad day. Even more so now that I am reminded I won't be able to get all possible content on PC for what will be likely the - this time for real - last Metal Gear Solid game.

This is an end of an era if there ever was gaming-eras. I will be playing MGSV with very different emotions now.
A truer send-off could not have been written by hollywood itself.
Everyone gets send off.

Take care Kojima. Take care all the great people at KojiPro and take care all the great people at Konami. Just know that these disgusting end will never taint what you all achieved and that we will remember you as the folks who brought us great, great times. From Mr. Kojima to QA, from PR to Programmers. You all are rad folks. And I trust you to go out with a big bang.

You are loved and you will be remembered.

Kojima is going to go off alone. Make his own Private Videogame Company. To make videogames not for his fans, but for himself.

Developers Without Borders.

Is that a new photo? =(

No.

That was when Kojima invited Akio Osuka (the voice of Snake) over to the development team to give them energy to finish the game.

You see Kojima put all his heart into this project and this is how konami thanks him for that.

Crazy stuff, honestly it seems like Konami's game side is really just kojima and his crew.

So long Metal Gear.

So long Silent Hills.

All that work on the Fox Engine.

Now we begin to speculate (dream) where Kojima ends up. Seeing how much he loves their games, and the mutual respect they've showed to each other, how cool would it be for Naughty Dog to pick him up as a game/creative director? His ambition with their talent. That's my drug fueled fantasy anyway.

My freaking God. Could the industry even be able to contain the amount of awesome generated by such a unholy union?

I know a lot of people say Nintendo. I do not think Nintendo is a good fit for Kojima and his team unless they go all in on a decently good hardware platform. Kojima does like his uber awesome toys and I just do not see Nintendo giving him the tech specs he likes to play with.

Well, I really hope he gets to finish Silent Hills prior and this doesn't end with Metal Gear Solid V being phoned in/rushed.

You know you don't actually want that.

That would be a horrible fit.
No, not really. He could make visual novels to his heart's content on 3ds, or come up with something interesting on Wii U. Everyone pigeonholes him as AAA cinematic guy, but he was putting out varied things before Konami one tracked him on MGS. That doesn't even factor in NX, which we have no knowledge of yet.

So many posts about him going to Nintendo. I can think of few developers less Nintendo-ish than Kojima, lol.

BTW, while I don't like MGS and as such this doesn't affect me, I disagree with the usual mindset that a series can't be good or even better after the departure of the original creator(s). We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

On a gaming enthusaist board talking about Konami as a game developer? They might as well be dead. Sure they may live on though other ventures or mobile but the Konami that people know and love is basically dead

Outside of Japan yes. But Konami in Japan has not been seen as the big console publisher in quiet a while. They have been better known over there as the pachinko, arcado, & mobile developer, or as the guys with the fitness company (I really liked their gyms).

So yeah, not everyone loved the same Konami

Wow... I guess this will really be his last Metal Gear. Actually who owns the IP? Kojima or Konami?

I hope Kojima keeps making games. The man's extremely talented. I'd love to see a new IP.

Yes, this is true. But given that he was allowed to play with all the cool toys do you really think he will want to go back to developing on less powerful platforms.

He could go and make uber amazing things on PC. That would cause a meltdown for sure.

You're talking about letting him make whatever he wants, but want Nintendo to be the one in charge of him?

Yeah, again, bad fit. Just let Sony or someone throw money at him to make a studio and just release whatever game he wants.

If MS couldnt/wouldnt get long-term partners like Itagaki and CliffyB to sign their new games to them I doubt they will be successful with Kojima.

As I said, MS are happy with UE4 otherwise they wouldn't keep licensing it, it solves a lot of problems for them, keeping their relationship with Epic close despite not launching any games together anymore, getting regular support and an engine that does everything they could want it to without all the costs of building it.

Rare had an incredibly impressive engine last-gen that proved itself capable of a number of genres and types of games with nice looking graphics (Kameo, PDZ, VP, Banjo) and still MS didn't use a single engine solution, they won't start doing it now.

Honestly I'm not surprised that whatever Rare cooked up wasn't used just due to how much of a mess that studio is.

Licensing an engine certainly is easier than building one from scratch and I can see them not bothering with the headache. It can be an extremely expensive venture with little in terms of rewards.

I bet Zenimax has Mikami calling up Kojima right now and asking if he'd like to join the club.

After Skyrim, Dishonored, Wolfenstein, and The Evil Within, I think it would be great. Predatory nature aside, they seem to take care of the studios they actually acquire, all of which seem to be given good funding, time, and creative freedom.

Kojima will most likely stay multi-platform.. I read he either wants to do a BIG AAA game that's not MGS or an indie game.

Activision makes the most sense... Massive budget and freedom...

Well that sort of came out of nowhere.
I feel sad for some of the people that will probably lose their job because of this. And it's a shame for the Fox engine which seemed to be pretty good.

But if this finally forces Kojima to work on something new then that's great.

I was thinking about the fox engine.
it was developed after mgs4 the one kojima said was his last.
Does Konami the say "no ur not done" and his answer is to create an engine to allow normal devs to do work on his level?

In mgs foxhound is created by bigboss, (how kojima often characterizes as his persona on twitter) is then abandoned and later subsumed by liquid (a carbon copy big boss) and uses technology to grant it's agents the power of big boss. The Dia then creates foxdie to kill off key members.

So the question is, does kojima have the foxdie virus? ;)

Well for Microsoft, the primary interest wouldn't be the Japanese market but what he could provide internationally. KojiPro has multiple aspects that would make it attractive to them as a company. They also certainly can bankroll higher than Sony right now.

Although yes, chances are high that he'll just do a deal similar to Respawn with some publisher.

I don't think ANY first party is going to do any kind of exclusive deal with him. It makes no sense. That includes Sony, even though they have a long working relationship with Kojima. He's not going to want to give anyone control over his new ip, which makes working with Kojima on an exclusive level EXTREMELY expensive.

And yes, Microsoft's interest is NOT in the Japanese market because that's where they are failing miserably (in fact, I actually wouldn't be surprised if Xbox completely pulls out of Japan within the next several years. I don't think it could be overstated how embarrassingly bad the Xbox One is doing over there.), so they're most certainly NOT going to bankroll a Japanese developer. MGS does well here, but it doesn't do as well as Gears or Halo. It seems like a complete delusion to even think Microsoft would attempt at trying to exclusively acquire a Kojima property.

Since we don't now what Nintendo is actually working on ... As long as he won't go PC exclusive I am fine with what he is doing.

Sony makes the most sense for Kojima. I'd be surprised if there wasn't already contact between them now.

Do you think Sony is going to give him the control he wants?

It would be glorious but I mean he is in uncharted waters now. Kojima working on non-mgs related things. Will they sell? Hell yes they will. Will they sell like MGS? Thats the million dollar question.
