1- kojima station site still there.

2- april fool.

3- Geoff Keighley (kojima's friend) who did the interveiw with (mobi dick) two years ago just tweeted about kojima. Helping him again with the pranks?

4- we all talking about it now = true marking.

5- 1/april/2015 is the 10th Anniversary for kojima productions.

If this is an April fools joke then it's a pretty bad one since Konami is getting a pretty bad image due to this

This is all a big joke right ?

Someone tell me it's just a hoax, that it's not happening.

I still can't wrap my head around it.

oh please.
konami have been making ridiculously sour moves for many years now.
while i don't want to take anything away from this kojima debacle as it's absolutely terrible, i think it's disappointingly telling that the 'enthusiast gaming community' has no coherent reaction to what they've done to pretty much all their big franchises, their key staff, and the studios that they've purchased and wasted along the way (like hudson) till today.
but the mere mention of kojima and oh no; gaming-community-explode-get.

very talented staff & quality i.p's, have constantly been screwed by konami throughout the years, and they get little to no mention or attention. you guys are the enthusiast community. you're suppose to know about this shit (because if you don't, then who the hell will?)

The staff are talented, of course, but their own implosion of their IPS and just general apathy towards developing games makes them a victim of themselves, with absolutely no one else to blame except the company.

What kind of marketing is "piss off potential customers of your product"?

Well, I don't know about one of the big publishers giving him a studio, but I could see a partnership deal being struck if whatever he pitches shows promise - his reputation alone would probably get a title greenlit.

As for Silent Hills, couldn't he just continue the game, rework it a bit, and release like PT - PT generated enough excitement on it's own before it was revealed as Silent Hills - but it's built on Fox Engine, so it would be probably delayed significantly to be put on Unreal Engine 4 or something alternative.

I can't see him ever working with Konami again after the disgusting and disrespectful way he has been treated, with his name being removed from covers, materials etc.

Just shameful.

That's what they said about Platinum Games and there was a period there where they struggled to get games greenlit. I don't think most major publishers are suddenly going to reverse the current course they're on just to sign up Kojima's game. It's a rough market and they've already made their decisions.

As for Silent Hills, nope. Konami doesn't just own the name, they own everything in it. If Kojima took all the code and assets from that game, that would be theft.

Yeah, Konami and Kojima are done.

SMFH, you have to be a special kind of idiot to believe this shit. April 1st is the first day of their fiscal year and you don't make pranks about major restructuring within a large company, not when you've got shareholders to answer to.

I know this sucks for Konami, Silent Hills, and potentially MGSV... but I'm not as distraught over this news as a lot of people seem to be.

I feel like Kojima has been eager to break free from the MGS series for a while now. Hell, he's even said as much rather directly. For future Kojima games, this might actually be a good thing. Ultimately it remains to be seen, but I'd rather see Kojima really doing what he wants to do as opposed to being stuck making MGS games forever.

This is exactly how I see it. It's sad to see him stripped from his IPs (quite literally, as his name is being stripped from all of their covers), but it's time for him to create new ones. Konami is not the right place for him... or anyone, for that matter.

Konami would have to fund it though and if they're trying to get out of the console AAA space, they're not going to dump money into a Platinum title that has limited returns.

Konami made an almost immediate return on investment for hiring P* to finish the first Rising game, which they rushed out without much polish. If they're trying to get out of the AAA business, then a smaller budgeted "A" or "AA" game like a P* action game with guaranteed ROI is the perfect route to take. Regardless of Konami's intent without Kojima, a MGR2 is a good idea.

Man, some people really need to know that April 1st is Japan's fiscal year start and many giant corporations have better taste than them if they are indeed making jokes.

It will be a shame if it ends this way. They can scrub a name off images and boxes but his legacy will live on long after he's gone. And if this isn't something Kojima himself requested/demanded, or isn't being driven by legal drama (IP, patent, or tech ownership dispute), then Konami is really dishonoring themselves acting in this manner.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
I'm still hoping I'm in a nightmare and I will wake up any minute now.

This is just all so unreal.

I would imagine that most people are just making light of the situation and don't actually believe that this is some giant practical joke.

If only we were all in a collective nightmare, and woke up to play MGSV and news of Silent Hills.

We'll never get a game with WWII Boss. :(

Most definitely not an April's Fools. Konami would be mental to allow such a prank, even if Kojima is known for such stunts. If Kojima is leaving then I can't see much future for Konami. What do they have apart from MGS? PES? They might be better off being bought. Sega should buy them and then renew Kojima's contract. I'm not saying that as a massive Sega fanboy but rather because Sega actually cares about developers' freedom and independence. They have shown a remarkable hands off attitude towards Atlus since it was acquired by them, so too with Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive. It just makes sense.

To be honest, with everything being true (likely to be), I can see him taking some time away from the games industry and, if he makes another game, it would be something completely new and not based on Metal Gear, since he wanted to stop.

lol. He said games that Kojima directed. Try again.

I can't believe after all these years people still think Kojima direct ZOE1 or 2. That's probably the downside to using "A Hideo Kojima game" on everything that came out of his studio.

If anything that's just an indication of how marketable the Kojima name is without the Metal Gear IP behind it.

If you strictly want to look at games he had a director title on (which means nothing that isn't Metal Gear), then Peace Walker was a flop everywhere but Japan.

You know they have a pretty healthy business outside of the "Video game products" right?

Yeah, any other publisher would have disbanded Creative Assembly after Alien Isolation sales, yet they are doing fine, and even talked about doing a sequel.

Well do we know how much was spent on development for the game? Seems like the delays would have added up even if much staff at Konami wasn't working on it.

It's crazy how pretty much everything marketed about MGSV has new meaning.

From Hideo Kojima's Moby Dick Studios:

mgs5-phantom-pain1.jpg

It seems to me everything about MGSV's plot is a metaphor of his situation at konami.

DD, Mother Base, Sins of the father lyrics, ...

A bit like how Darth Vader was influenced by Lucas' dad.

I think this is an appropriate time to ponder and reflect on that epic monster P_T_ thread here last e3, it was quite a ride. Only for the entire interwebs to be fucking blown away when the first person beat the game and revealed what it actually was, excitement levels off the damn charts. WAS THAT ALL FOR NOTHING!?

It's beautiful. ;~;
Anything for a comrade in need. (Sorry Sutherland fans, that was in Hayter's voice)

WTF. Everything surrounding this game seems so strange now. Even Hayter being left behind seems like it could have been a sign of things to come... (To clarify, I look forward to Sutherland's performance as Big Boss, but I'm not going to throw Hayter under the bus. He's an important part of the series legacy.)
And his producer too. It freaking hurts.
"You feel it, too, don't you?" Yeah. We may see it some day, but it won't be as it should be. Mostly because even if Kojima wouldn't do it, I bet anyone he was grooming for leadership of KojiPro will probably be fired from the company after MGSV (hopefully he/she will be able to join Kojima wherever he ends up!)
