To answer why not sell them now, it's probably because if they can get people into the store for Black Friday, people are in a spending mood and there's a good chance they'll buy a lot more than just the console.

unfortunately, it will make sense to them. The closer we get to the holidays the crazier people will get and be willing to pay more for bundles.

They do this to manage stock holder expectations.
If they have good sales cause they received all thier units way before Christmas but none during Christmas, the heavy sales before but not during the traditionally heavy sales weeks in December will be seen as failing the important weeks before Christmas and stockholder’s will call them out as failing during the designated holiday sales dates. They hold onto it until Black Friday so the sales appear in the days they measure specifically over previous years then they will trigger thier bonus clauses for maintaining or going above thier sales expectations on these specific sales dates like Black Friday and the 2 weeks before Christmas.

Just know they aren't doing it as a favor to the consumer, it's to pad their profits with stuff people otherwise probably would've walked out on. This is why Gamestop is always doing bundles. Also if it's a game that somebody doesn't like it will more than likely end up right back at Gamestop to be sold again at a higher price point. It's all a cycle.

I honestly think that all of the retailers are preparing to drop PS5s on Black Friday and just before Christmas: Gamespot, Walmart, Amazon, Argos, Currys, GAME, etc., etc.
They'll be selling them in bundles, though - an extra controller, a game, and all the rest, so you'll need to find an extra £100.

The latest retail "hubub" (or whatever you call it) from several specialty shops (like BestBuy, GameStop...even Target) they will not have these items in store for the holidays. They are handling all sales through their online store fronts.
I have seen this signage myself in a local target...but haven't seen any official statements on their websites yet.
BestBuy will likely place their packages behind their Total Tech Membership which (as a platinum elite member who would never need their technical support) is a bummer.

Before this month they had a bundle drop per console each month. Been nothing so far this month, so I believe this story.
I have 800$ in GS credit, so prepared to pay bundle price for a Series X.
I just refuse to stand in line for one, which as soon as that news goes out that they will have "50" in store. People will line up immediately, days before I'm guessing.

I actually don't have a problem with this. They need it for revenue, they'll be sold at cost, and lots if kids will get a PS5 for Christmas.

When I bought the PS5 DE from Gamestop, it came with the media remote, a $100 PS card, a year of PS+ card, and a $50 GameStop card. So it was all useful. I used the GameStop card to buy an Xbox gift card. It’s the disc version that forces physical games on you that you probably don’t want.

Anyone can say x, y, z for their respective location. Doesn't mean it will apply everywhere. It does make sense to horde the Consoles as there's a higher percentage more will cave in on bundles. You just have to wait for official announcements done by the stores in your region to know what your actual chances are.
