Gametrailers Thread: Good Night and Good Game

We're not really allowed to talk about the game at the center of this weeks Mandatory Update, but I found it pretty ridiculous 5 people knew almost nothing about the game outside of a vague basic concept were boiling it down to "well you shoot cops in gta".
I really love you guys, but MU nights is fast and loose...but that was pretty poor journalism.

Is it bad that I don't even have to watch it to know what game it must be? The thing is infamous at this point.

Postal would've been a better comparison than GTA.
Hatred just blew out of proportion because of the developers' background, in my opinion, otherwise nobody would've given a shit.
There are far "worse" games out there, especially since they brought up porn games, lol.

Anyhow, i don't think even they would classify that as a journalistic talk in any way shape or form.

I do think going in with the mentality of having to do a comparison, like Huber said he'll do, is the wrong approach tho.
As shitty as you think a game is, it should be getting a fair chance still, IF you're going to review it, otherwise don't bother, which is also fine.
As Ian mentioned, "don't go in with an hypothesis".

It's a total rerun of Postal in every way. Game looks the same, appears to play the same and the developers have courted the exact same controversy for the exact same reason. That's the worst thing about it: it's completely unoriginal.

Holy shit I just started watching Tabletop Adventures and am now convinced it is one of the most hilarious content ever put out by GT. I laugh consistently and Huber's one lines SLAY ME.

Did you start from episode 1? If so, amazingly, Huber only gets better.

No I started on last week's episode and then watched this week's. So good.

Still need to watch this weeks but yeah, last week was great!

There's a recap episode on the YouTube playlist too if you ever feel like hearing what happened in the previous episodes.

I really don't know where gamers got this idea that as long as you record yourself talking about something it automatically becomes "journalism".

When Bradon goes to E3 Judges week (or someone else to some other event) and comes back to talk about what he learned about the games he played or when he uploads an interview with the devs of Diseny Infinity or when he interviews someone in GT Live, that's journalism. Reviews and previous too, like Ben reviewsing Splatoon or when Bloodworth went to the preview event and made the preview

But just sitting in fron of a camera in a pretty relaxed way and record what's basically you and a few friends talking about videogames is hardly "Journalism"

Yeah, besides, GT has never really been a "Journalism" site. They're Critics and Enthusiasts. They've never really (seriously) done News or Editorials or Investigation pieces. They were primarily about Reviews and Hosting Trailers before and now they're about that and Personality Shows. There's also a big difference between being a Critic (which is what they've always been) and a Journalist.

Huber's display of warm caress on ManUp Nights was truly beautiful.

If you don't get this, look at the Youtube comment section of any (and I mean any) video with Huber in it.

Huber says he wants to do the review because he wants to directly compare it to GTA. That's journalism...and it's bad.

I got into Tabletop Adventures when I saw episode 25 appear, watched about 20 minutes loved the style etc and decided to backtrack and watch from the very beginning.
I'm currently upto episode 4, and it is incredible to see how they have progressed in regards to how their characters interaction with each other and GM from these early stages upto the present day. Also early on all of them seemed very unsure of the game mechanics and the description of what is currently happening goes go into way to much detail, which is vastly refined from what I saw in episode 25.

In episode 4 they are using a whiteboard and a second camera to show all of Ben's drawings/area layouts etc. Anyone know why they stopped using this device? It wasn't there on episode 25. Seems to enhance the viewing experience greatly.

Not sure why I never watched this earlier, love D&D and always watch everything else Gametrailers publishes, think it was due to getting into this later and thinking it was too late to catch up [which it isn't of course].

I think it was because it turned into a Hubers Face cam, plus Ben has simplified most of the recent encounters and exploration to not need a map.

Probably the best LITL so far.

Elyse really surprised me in this episode. It's really weird how she explains her love of the underdog character and it's edited in with friggin' Batman...but I'm definitely with her that Ellie is an overrated character. I wasn't expecting her comment about Quelaag, I'm sure Iain can tell her the backstory.

N.B. I will never understand comments like Andrea's: "I never got in to this series, I don't get what's so great about the protagonist?" Well... play the games and you'll find out?

Stephanie Bayer (I think her name is (the red haired one)) was at it again. Every single time she appeared she laughed at her own comments. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I have no idea why it annoys me, but it does.

lmao, that guy is everywhere

I thought it was weird at first, then sorta funny, now it's sort of sad. I think it's just someone crying for attention.

I don't like how he sees himself as part of the community, when people confront him about it, it's clearly not a joke. He doesn't like Huber.

I'm gonna be talking about game endings, if you don't want to be spoiled...just fastforward until a new game title appears at the top of the screen.

Great idea Huber!

Talks about the last games ending in the next game section

*face palm*

Given Geoff is not cohosting this year's SPIKE and Gametrailers E3 Coverage this year from a press conference viewpoint, I was wondering what GT's plans are for this year.

One of the best Bosmans in a while. Solid advice all around. :)

I watch every press conference every year, but there's no way I'm watching the "PC Gaming Show." No way. I won't do it and you can't make me. *hairflip*
