GB Micro US packaging

"Is it too small to see? Too little, too late? Is it desperation, or anticipation? Gameboy Micro, the new fragrance from Nintendo."

the thing about the packaging is that they probably want people to see how small it actually is. while the gb sp is pretty small if they put the micro in a regular box people would still probably question how much smaller it really is.
That reminds me of when I got a GameCube for Christmas one year. I couldn't believe how fucking small the thing was! The box for GC made it seem somewhat larger.

Clear similarity in designs--this kind of box just screams "look at me" with its clear branding, bold design, and full product view.

Oooh...pretty. It's a stylized, simple and well-executed package. It really looks like the kind of package of a product that is far more expensive than it should be. Priced too high or not, it's coming together pretty well.

so it's actually in a box, not in one of those plastic casings that make your fingers bleed when you open it?

It's definitely eye-catching but it doesn't really do much for me. It's different from what Nintendo has done in the past and I guess the change from the conventional packaging had to be made to better sell the Micro. Next week eh? I'll end up picking it up. I know it.

the clear area is too busy, they should have focused more on the look of the system itself instead of the system and the faceplates.

The shape reminds me of the packaging panty hose comes in.

The packaging is ok but the alternate face plates don't excite me all that much.

I'm still deciding whether i should get a micro or just a DS or both.

what exactly does the Japanese packaging look like?? --- I'll find out tomorrow hopefully, when the delightfull UPS man comes . but just wondering ---

Nooooooo my precious cardboard packaging....

I hate plastic packages. All hail the dreamcast and GBA for using cardboard for almost everything.

The Famicom Micro packaging could've been done for any fitting recent release: Gamecube, GBA (in fact, there WAS an SP with a similar theme-packaging style, if I remember correctly), DS, whatever.

The Micro is small enough (and they want to show that) that this type of packaging works to catch the eye and surprise some people. The DS would NOT look as good in a similar packaging style. :P It'd look like a cheap CD player does, even though it's a heftier portable.

Besides, don't forget that the Famicom Micro was a special release of sorts, not all the Micro packages in Japan looked like that.

...I really don't think this is an entirely plastic packaging. It appear, to me, to be some sort of box, like an iPod box, that will then open and likely come apart pretty easily.

But, the inside plastic part could be a clamshell...but why? I would think it would probably come apart pretty easily if it's already in a box.

I agree that the packaging could've been better, but at least it firmly reinforces Nintendo's attempt to brand the GB seperately from the DS. I have to say that I'm a little discouraged by the negative reaction against Nintendo for releasing a smaller GB design two years after the SP. Is it any different than Apple providing us with new iPod designs every year? I think it's rather neat that Nintendo tries to reinvent the GB design every few years. Doesn't hurt anyone and it is certainly attractive for those who want a system that a little more understated. I can see this thing expanding the GB market.

Damn you Nintendo for not giving me solid colors. I want a totally black micro :(

That's easy, just buy both Micros and swap the default faceplates. You'll have one totally black system and one totally silver system. All for the low, low price of $200!

And the SP turned out to be a great success.

I don't think Nintendo has any illusions about Micro. It's an overpriced hardware with one, well maybe TWO things going for it. Its portability and the screen.

That said, it effectively keeps the GB alive for another year. It's exactly like what Apple is doing with iPod. It's not so much as milking as extending a product life cycle until they can get the next gen product out the door.
