GC: DriveClub gameplay

hey im a fan of their previous work, and yes hopefully you can turn that off i would hope for people that play this and want that. i dont have friends who like racers unfortunately. its always shooty or moba lol.

I'm actually in a similar boat myself, which is one of the things I do like about the whole "club" aspect. I can challenge my club without needing to be there all the time. I never have time to do meetups and such, and at least I can still half some good laughs beating down their scores and such. A leaderboard that I'll never check is one thing, actively telling me during a game is another. Hopefully they nail the seamlessness of it all and it ends up being something I can passively enjoy.

Having it be a big ass element in the HUD is awful, if they give you the option to have it like they had in the trailer, where it just pops up above your actual dashboard, then that would be friggin awesome. It's an Evolution game and I'm going to want to enjoy the visuals as much as possible.

GAFclub. Problem solved.

WTF?? I swear to god that people are using this game to get their opportunity to crap on the ps4
That's pretty obviously the case, Driveclub was one of the weak links to target.

This Gamescom build however, I have to agree with some earlier comments, it now looks at least as good as Forza 5. Forza has the edge with car models, but the environments and lighting are so much better in Driveclub.

With some DoF effects, more particle effects when you run off track etc, Driveclub could get another graphical boost, I'm also intrigued to see more night driving, particularly in-car.

Looks great but I'm shocked they're not at 60fps yet. The difference between this and GT6 isn't exactly night and day... Did they just recently start development on this game or is the PS4 bottlenecked?

Looks really good. In some ways i wish there were an arcade racer for the X1 launch. Grrrr. But eh,Forza will be be quite fun just the same. DriveClub is gonna be a treat for PS4 owners. (jealous)

Okay seriously, are you getting paid to defend this game in every thread and attack all of its perceived detractors? Because if not I'm going to start worrying about the state of your mental health.

He's right. When they pan by the trees, they look like cardboard. Everybody knows what trees look like, and when they look weird by comparison in digital media it stands out. Nobody's going to base their purchase on that, but don't expect them to be impressed either. And if people aren't wowed by the visuals, that's entirely on the developers, not them.

Evolution Studios was up next, and this session went a bit wrong as technical difficulties meant there was no live gameplay demo as promised, but we still managed to see captured footage and to prize some interesting facts out of the studio’s hands. Driveclub is playable on PS Vita via remote play, and we saw recorded footage of the team playing it without lag or any of that nonsense. We also saw another staff member playing the game via PS4 on the same couch.

But then a neat twist; a third developer logged into the Driveclub phone app and selected a custom time trial challenge he made on his PS4 the night before. He then sent it to the members of his club and within seconds it was flagged up on both player’s screens. At the touch of a button they were both playing the challenge as posed by the phone user, and each trying to beat his record time.

That's just it though, the trees don't look bad. If you look at that capture before the race starts (when your not moving) the trees look phenomenal. When your moving (as you can tell by the speedometer) the trees blur and become more flat. It's not altering the geometry at all, it's just what motion blur does. A safer phrase to say is, "those trees look flat when your driving 120Kph. In which instance, I'd agree with you. They most certainly do.

I honestly can't tell if people are just trolling or believe what they're saying any more. These tree's look card board to you?

I almost get the feeling that people automatically assumed DriveClub had this flat tree's issue that GT is synonymous for, not realising DC's tree's were actually in an altogether different league. Not that it even really matters.

Sounds pretty neat actually :P Not a feature I'd use that often, but I like that it's all integrated.

If u mean photo mode on gt6 then your comment would make more sense.

Gt6 gameplay doesn't even come close to driveclub.

Cool vg247 article.

Looks good but from the video I get the sense the handling is floaty.

Any impressions on how it handles, so much concern on the graphics.

Please rememeber guys. DriveClub is NOT a simulator, whereas Gran Turismo 6 is. DriveClub might still be a lot of fun. Looking forward to testing it myself on November 29th...

Does that really look like a next gen leap over the Dirt games?
This is from Dirt 1 on the 360, not to mention the other 2 Dirt games looked even better.
932887_20070914_790screen019.jpg

(on another note, holy shit at finding any kind of decent screen grabs from any big name site, they sure went down the shitter in quality & quantity over the years)

There seem to be a ton of haters who are out of touch with reality here. The models look phenomenal, the lighting looks phenomenal, the environments are well and truly more detailed than anything else out there in the genre right now. It's like people are looking for things to hate, and in truth there isn't much there in this build. It's leaps and bounds better than E3

I don't c what you see.

I still dont like the actual physics of the cars and how they move around. Looks really weird, in a Cruising USA type of way....very stiff/static.
The reflections are really nice though. Love the lighting too

today you learn that Drive Club is not a simulator and is in fact a arcade game

completely sad that it took you this long but what can you do...

Lol, this thread delivers.

honestly, you'd think after this long you'd give up. I mean, remember when the Killzone demo for E3 was totally worse quality than the reveal even though it was literally the same fucking thing. I'd think by you'd learn these people see what ever the fuck they want. I guess your just a fan of wasting your time. Your better than me, that's for sure

Hehhe... Heh... Heh?

Oh... You're serious?

Fuck me!! That was unbelievable. I am stunned at not just this but the quality of these launch titles. Absolutely cannot wait to get this.

Did they recently start development on this launch game......gee I don't know

Off screen footage is not good enough for next gen. We need direct feed 1080p videos.

I literally can't say if the game looks good or not.

The PS4 is several times more powerful than the PS3. But it also comes down to the developer. Most important thing is how well the engine is coded. You can have a poorly coded or an unoptimised engine (despite having fancy lighting effects, shadows, textures and level of detail). Also, the fact that this is a launch title might have something to do with it. PS360 launch titles looked pretty shitty if I'm honest - not significantly better than what was shown on the PS2/Xbox. This time around I actually think the leap is actually noticeable. I wouldn't wait for 60FPS for this game though. Perhaps Polyphony Digital can return to form and show the console some justice! :P

Lol I think you need glasses.

Mapping 900 degree turn to the joystick movement would result in something much more annoying.

This.

A joystick is far too imprecise to model 900 degree lock to lock steering.

It still doesn't have to look like a whale driving the car like in other racing games.

I have actually played with 1to1 turning on a controller (LFS) and it with a little bit of practice worked quite well. Analog sticks have a very high resolution, you just need to use the differently. I usually steer like in a platformer with the analog all the way forward to make sideways adjustments much more precise.

If you mean arcade as in you can go a whole race without using the brake, then you'll be disappointed.

Closest comparison is PGR4

it certainly looks more arcade drift happy then pgr to me from gameplay videos, but yeah, this isnt NFS/burnout.

I seriously went "WTF" at the tree post. This game has the best foliage I've seen in a racing game on consoles yet, and is easily a next-gen leap over anything on the ps3/360.

I hope that PD takes a cue from these guys for the foliage when they start making GT PS4.

OMG at some of the posts in this thread. Seriously made me laugh out loud. From what I've seen so far it looks great. Patiently waiting for the direct feed gameplay video.

Is this game online only or is it basically Gran Turismo? I wonder how it's different from GT.

One thing I hope this game or car games like it start doing (if they aren't already) is limiting the amount of cars you can have at once. I remember GT being a car collectathon and when you have a million toys, none of them are as special as if you had one to three to work with.

I want to play this game and lust over someone's Lamborghini I just got finished racing against and have to make a tough choice if I want to buy one and make it the focus of my DC experience or not. Tweak, mod, test, customize and all that.

I don't know what people expect. They never announced the game as 60fps... they did show the game in a very early stage, now it looks much better, the environments look very good, and the vegetation is the best seen in a racing game yet.

The problem I see now is that the game stutters at some points, that is so obviously due to development issues which will be solved before it's released...

There is a HUGE difference from any Dirt game to #DriveClub... it is not little... it is HUGE.

I don't know if you are joking... sorry.
