For those who are downloading the whole game again instead of patch just do this.

Close windows store
open powershell as admin
run this code below

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

let it finish then reopen windows store.

Worked perfectly

The first couple of acts are definitely pretty weak, but I thought it ramped up very nicely and all things considered I enjoyed the campaign very much. Much better than 3.

Did you play single player or co-op? I found part of the enjoyment of it is the co-op experience, much like in Gears 1.

The robots are definitely a total drag. However, I think that Horde is it's best yet -- and this is coming from someone who never really liked horde in any of the previous installments. I can already see myself putting plenty of time into Horde. And yes, the microtransaction problem is god awful.

I genuinely feel that if there were some legitimate Gears of War fans on board for this project (which, in my eyes, it feels like there really weren't), we would have a much better overall product. For me, the problems are the small things that are missing.

I played it single player my first time out, which I always do... but I won't be playing it again :). And in some respects I agree with you that it's the small things -- just lots and lots of small, important things.

I already kicked off my reinstall but thanks for this, I'm saving it for the next patch.

seems to be that the installer wants the drive you are installing the update on to have another 73 gb of space...so if it doesn't it errors it out

come on microsoft

Difficulty Settings

Casual- You are pushed through the game in a wheelchair by a really hot nurse in a hot uniform.

Normal- You are escorted through the game on foot by a really hot nurse. Her uniform is a little tighter.

Hardcore- You slowly, valiantly and methodically fight through the game while protecting a really hot nurse while she tends to your wounds with expert hands and tender care every chance she gets. The battle slowly takes it's toll on her uniform, as time goes on and bandages run out she resorts to using multiple strips of it as makeshift tourniquets.

Insane-
This time the nurse isn't your mother.

I'm loving the game. It's a contender for game of the year, for me. It looks fantastic, is super fucking optimized on PC, and most importantly, is more Gears of War fun. The skins in multiplayer are fun to see, and help make me feel like an individual, which I like. The game is still a gory mess, with chunks of body parts flying around and buckets of blood. I love it.

My only complaint is I can't stop playing it. Microsoft's exclusives are going to steal my fall/winter away from the rest. Well, maybe not so much from Titanfall. But that's a great balance for me, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Titanfall 2.

The Windows 10 Store is not representative of how PC gaming is today. Any other client works fine and I can guarantee that you will never encounter any of that garbage with Steam, uPlay, GOG Galaxy, Origin etc.

Maybe that is what Microsoft is trying to do with this new PC gaming push, try to make PC gaming look bad lol. As far as I can tell (watching the app folder while this game slowlllly updates to the new patch) their patching process downloads the patch into a new folder and then copies the ENTIRE previous version into the new folder (so you would need another 80gb available just to update). This is some almost unbelievable stone age shit.

And why would I want them?
My only complaint about campaign is the deebees overstayed their welcome. It took entirely too long to get to the Swarm.

Seeing a lot of gripes about the Deebees' but I actually really enjoyed fighting them. I didn't really like the first level too much but once you get passed that initial act I thought it really opened up and thought they added some diversity to enemy types in the game. Was a good choice to include them imo, even if they did overstay their welcome just a bit.

Learning KB/M now after beating the campaign with controller. It's weird but the mouse aim feels so good. Insane difficulty is pretty crazy idk if I'll be able to complete the whole game on it.

Now to see if I can get I versus to test my kb/m skills

I agree. I liked them. But fighting only deebees stayed maybe a couple of chapters to long.
But thats the only thing i found "negative" about the SP.

I think there was only one combat scenario late in the game where
Deebees and Swarm fought each other
I would've liked a few more of those.

So I try and update, and it says 'error, see details' on the progress bar, and clicking the bar makes it try to reinstall gears, all 80GB of it. I'd like to play this evening if at all possible, is there a way around this?

I've been doing the
Swarmak
fight for 40 minutes now (Hardcore).

What to do?

I destroyed all the generator thingies, the only thing left are the brutes, tons of drones and the swarmak itself. I can get it down to 2-3 spots on its body, but then I always get instakilled by the fucking rockets.

What seems to be taking so long is not the update itself, but that the game is copied from the old folder in "X:\WindowsApps\Microsoft.SpartaUWP_9.1.0.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" (73.3GB) to "Microsoft.SpartaUWP_9.2.0.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe"

Shoot. Pray. Active Reload. Repeat.

Find Boomshots/Torque.

Stay near AI.

Good Luck? Easily the hardest part of the game.

No, it just copies the install to a new folder (before deleting the old folder, I think). Great patch system

83 GB freed on my SSD and this POS still won't update. No error code, it just brings up the drive selection and tells me to pick a drive with 80 GB Free.

I just did this, went back into the store, and it is asking me to Update again. Should I go ahead and update now?

Never mind. This didn't work. Up to 428 MB.....Seems like it is going to make me download the whole fuckin' game again.

Thanks. I have to say, Hardcore has been just the right amount of difficulty so far.

Found the boomshots before, but with the arc and constant shake my first shot is a tracker, and the second goes for the target. Also had some success with the Markza, but needs the whole magazine to burst the pimples. Will try the Bow.

So far, the Boltok worked best. With Active reload, 5 shots take out a spot on its body, never managed to hit the chin so far that many times in a row. The regeneration is insane too, considering the arm-guns keep me pinned for 15-20 seconds.

Yeah, they are a fun enemy to fight and add variety, but Gears of War is a series about angry and volatile men (and women) fighting subterranean monsters with chainsaw guns. The robots were fine but almost the entire first like, half of the game didn't even have a Gears of War tone.

Deebees are great, they were just there for WAY too long before we got to chainsaw some god damned monsters.

Also spoiler
I liked the new cast but they didn't feel like Gears characters either. They were too lighthearted about the whole situation. They didn't have the absurdly over the top aggression and urgency that the series vets had. Their reactions to the absolute horror they were enduring was unrealistically chill. The parts where Marcus is with you and is "God damnit, fuck"-ing everything that happens was when I finally felt like it was Gears of War.

Brilliant level and encounter design though, absolutely love the campaign and despite some hang ups I feel like this series is in amazing hands. I feel vastly more satisfied with Coalition as a Gears fan than I do with 343 as a Halo fan.

This.
That's how I managed to take the Swarmak down. Boom shots and torque bow. Def the hardest section. Played it on hardcore with a friend and we quit since we had been playing friday for about 9 hours straight. The next day got it done the first try.
