Gears of War Judgement |OT| Brothers from the beginning, Bros till the end

I'm really liking Judgement, someone earlier in the tread said this felt like what Gears 2 should have been and I agree, I'm loving the MP on this. But only 4 maps really does suck. The campaign so far is good -- up to act 3 -- but my only problem is that the levels feel like individual rooms or small little levels, not sure how to put it but it feels weird.

I'm having a tough time getting through some of these Declassified missions on hardcore (specifically some of the timed ones). I think I may need to play coop because shit should not be this hard.

I thought a Cog vs. Cog red vs. blue could have been cool IF the developers made some great armor loadouts/skins but I never imagined they would take the ugly and complete ouf-of-place weapon skins from Gears 3 and slap them on the players. Neon skeleton skins? Are you serious? Rainbow skins? This is crazy!

This ain't Gears of War! Gears of War is gorey, in-your-face, intimate violence with gruesome executions and Gnasher gibs set against a backdrop of oppressive un-ending war and despair. Its world is grey and drained of color and life. There is no place in this universe for rainbow color Cog skins! What the hell happened here?

Almost finished with the campaign, and it's quite disappointing for a Gears campaign. It plays fine, very well actually. The problem is that the story is absolute crap. Easily the least enjoyable campaign in the series. It hardly feels like i'm playing a campaign with all the declassified nonsense being so front and center. The writing is also a step back from prior entries. Why is Cole in this? he barely says anything.

The highlight of the game for me is Overrun and Survival. I've really enjoyed the time that i've spent with both of those modes.

TDM is good fun too; new maps should help extend the life of this mode.

Played a few bot matches on Normal. First match of Domination, I captured a ring and stared at a bot as it casually strolled up to me point blank and shotgunned my face off. Oops. Not used to the COG v. COG format yet! I got the hang of it, though.

Free for all is neat, but after two bot matches it quickly lost it's luster. I suppose it won't be too terribly different against human opponents. It's the least like any other Gears variation I've played. The maps feel pretty large with bots, but again that might close up with human opponents who understand how they flow and where the best places to defend and attack from are.

Finished the Judgment campaign on Normal, completed all but two or three Declassified missions. Finishing those on Hardcore will be challenge enough, and strike me as downright scary on Insane. I have no idea why people would skip these, taking the Declassified missions made every level I played on Normal feel more like Hardcore did in previous Gears titles. Protip: taking on the last level's Declassified mission makes that one a grind. Fun, but when most levels are 5-8 minutes long it felt like I was taking baby steps towards victory over a half-hour.

I'm really happy with the campaign. I want to pick up a Gold account just to slog through that with some buddies or more likely other randoms. The last time I had Gold it was strictly for Gears and it will be no different if I cave again.

Also, Paduk is awesome. Not only his character and related weapons but the idea behind including a character like his: Pendulum War DLC. Campaign and MP. Why did they do COG v. COG when they could have done COG v. UIR? Make new models and you could easily differentiate friend from foe in MP and you get a whole new faction for fans to tool around with.

From the little I have seen from the Classic Hammerburst..wow. 3Sk with it. If you want to play mid range it will chew up people.

I played a FFA match where the person that won just used the classic hammerburst, and they just crushed everyone. I never liked it in the older games but seeing people use it in this games makes me want to try it. The shotgun ranges being so reduced has really made the mid-range guns more viable.

Does anyone know when lunchbox is coming back? It would be nice to update the op with a GT list.
I'll text him and see.

EDIT: I quote, he says "tell them Wes Welkers still a patriot and fuck peyton manning. quote me. they can ban me for calling manning a cunt, but he's still a loser cunt, quote me bro"

Only an hour or so in (just finished Baird's testimony) and so far this is my favourite Gears campaign since the first game.

Dead

well not really...yet
Played some overrun with some bros last night and it was really fun, arcade feel of the campaign is also great.

Overall enjoying more than 3

Part of me wants to give solo insane a go, but another part of me knows I'll be stomped into dust by the very first defend segment. The intensity is perfect, but hardcore difficulty is just a tad too easy - that seems to be what you get when you have three allied AIs.

Gears 1 on insane was perfection.

the more players you have the harder it becomes due to insta-deaths. at lest with a bot or two they'll usually run ahead and distract the Locust for you. also, it seems when going solo the Locust will make a b-line right for you.

True. And here I am looking for more difficulty and I haven't even tried any declassified challenges yet. D'oh.

That's next.

Judgment MP is pretty meh. I hope they never put the lead MP designer anywhere near a Gears game. I won't put down all my thoughts, I think PXG and especially smik put have coherently written down what I feel about the game. I'll ad that the lack of TAC hurt the game for newbies. Normally you could shout come to boom and everyone would know where to go or at least in which direction. The bullets from center screen makes shotty's more awkward to use, but improved the snipers. I would've preferred a hybrid approach.

I hope this game somehow revitalizes the Gears 3 scene.

First impressions of the game having played some overrun:

- might just be me, but I think it looks worse than 3. Like some weird film grain going on or something?

- fucking sentries. I have been in CQC with a dude and instead of fucking firing he pressed LB and his turret mashed me up. Another time I had the drop on a guy from a way away and he didn't know where I was. Pulls out his turret and boon found me straight away.

- booskha? "Let's make the boomshot a starter and balance it by putting a few seconds delay on it. That'll work."

Am I right in thinking there is no limit on class selection on overrun either?

On the third testimony of Gears Judgment, Hardcore solo. Still carries over my biggest problem with Gears 3 solo campaign, that 95% of the time there's zero consequence of death. Lot of enemies and shit flying, but as long as your AI buddies are around, you can just brute force your way through anything. Meh.

And the banter/story is pretty weak. Last game had a lot of filler stuff like finding food or searching for gas, but at least the characters were interesting and entertaining, and the banter was the best in the series. Here it's stale and tired.

And I really don't like how segmented the whole thing is, with the stat screen after each fight, 5 second loading screen cutscene, and then on to the next thing. It makes it feel episodic, I'm more disconnected from the world and it's characters than ever.

All the turret defense sections can kiss my ass, too.

Fuse(w/Nullpointer) will probably be better than this.

FFA is surprisingly fun. Got into a match with a friend and we just finished 1 and 2 over and over. He was 1 though :( for the most. A lot more fun with friends, since you are determined to hunt them down lol.

Shield plus primary weapon is probably the most stupid idea they have had, I mean there was an exploit for that in Gears 2 and they patched it out because it was so stupid and now they actually make it part of the new game.

Getting downed ticks away at your score for every moment you're on the floor bleeding out. Even a single DBNO can easily drop your score enough to lose a star, and its all about the score and those stars. If you get killed you have to restart at the checkpoint, and each checkpoint here is a battle. So, what do you mean?

Maybe :) When the hell is that coming out anyway? I see myself playing Judgment for a good while as my primary thing, but I am planning on picking FUSE up at some point too.

I'm not quite sure what the stars do

or why I should care about the stars?

Score is for leaderboards, but also levels you up. Level up and you get new character models and skins, but only for use in the other multiplayer modes.

Stars are your rank for clearing each checkpoint, with three stars max. Difficulty, challenges, skilled play and ribbons net you a higher score, so more stars. Earn enough stars and you unlock the Aftermath campaign (which I did easily on solo hardcore without activating any declassified challenges). Besides that I guess both are just for achievements.

That's what they do, as to why you should care? I don't really have an answer for that one ;P

Personally, I'm just in it for the gory dynamic battles. Everything else is just a decent extra. I suppose the unlocks might be good for a laugh or two once my usual co-op group gives Survival mode a go.

Can someone tell me the difference between Paduk's Judgment and Aftermath skin? They look exactly the same to me except Aftermath is more darker. Pretty lazy character skin in my opinion.

I missed 1 goddamn classified mission. Out of 42.

Also, Aftermath was pretty cool. It ran worse than the main judgment campaign but it was still fun. It's crazy what removing the 'star' system does for the tone of the game.

I also missed 1. I figured I would just save it for my insane run though. I am really dreading the one where you have to protect the bot on the street from the ragers. That was so hard just on hardcore.

Yessh, yeah that does sound like it will be difficult. I too, will probably save the stuff for my next go around.

I hate to be a downer but...this game feels really, really low rent. I feel like you do nothing in the campaign except defend like small spaces. I feel no sense of progression or adventure.

I much more enjoyed Aftermath than the other part of the campaign. The classified stuff makes it feel like I'm just going from kill room to kill room. While I can kinda see were they were going it totally killed the pacing of the game for me. That not being present in Aftermath made it much better imho. But to each his own

I wanted to copy that video with the two piecing/stim grenade playstyle people are using and all I have to say is wow.com.

I feel like a puss playing like this.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
So pretty safe to say judgement mp is a dud?

It needs tweaked like every gears on launch has always needed, but there's still good potential there. The stim nade/two piece stuff is the main thing to tweak for now. Not sure why they went gears 1 on it when 3 fixed that.

Jesus Christ, once you start exploiting the 2-piece...

It just takes all the fun out of Gnasher battling. Making it so effective was a huge misstep.

I had to shut if off after my third "another wave" encounter. This is so disappointing. Wow.

I got up to around the third testimony, and Baird was like "Corpser!", and I thought, "...no". I just lost all desire to keep going and went to play some Brutal Doom

Holy hell, is the campaign wack
