Gears Ultimate Beta Access

That guy is timing out or something, the ammo isn't going down. Used to happen all the time on GoW1 when you'd lag out.

My favorite is when it would lag, and you'd see people gliding across the map. Not moving at all just stuck in place and gliding. You could then run up behind and chainsaw them, the game would catch up and you'd be on the other side of the map chainsawing blood air and then the other person would seemingly die out of the blue.

Hilarity at it's best.

I think the game will die out pretty quickly after release because of how archaic it is. But, that's the whole point of the game's existence apparently. It's Gears 1 with improved graphics and the same old clunky gameplay. Some will love it, but most won't.

This whole "yeah, but it's so awesome that it's hard to play!" is just nonsense. Gears of War 2 and 3 are also hard to play compared to Halo and CoD. If you don't think there is a massive skill gap in those two games as well, then you're probably not as good as you think you are at those games. Poor players will get obliterated by a good player almost every time (it's Gears so it can't be every time).

It's also really stupid to say that movement matters less in the sequels. If anything, movement around the map is more important than ever. If you try to rush head on, you are pretty much guaranteed to die in those two games. Use the map, be sneaky, try to actually think up tactics instead of "I'M SO FUCKING AWESOME WITH THE GNASHER, HELL YEAH!". Those guys don't last long.

But, if this is the perfect game for you, then that's fine too. Just don't claim that you are so much more hardcore and awesome than anyone preferring the sequels.

yeah it's not like that gif, it's actually even worse

coalition is basically the new 343

I missed this earlier.

You can clearly see he missed all but one shot. The one shot he did hit grazed the guy. That player hasn't adjusted to the new, narrow spread.

That is the Gnasher spread at point blank. That is why that player couldn't kill his opponent

Well done for spotting that. The ammo count was not reducing.

Others spotted it before me. I don't deserve any credit

This. One thousand times this. I've bought and played every Gears on launch day and have probably have close to two thousand hours played across the series. Improvements have been made with each iteration, as have things that are not so great. However, the "Gnasher only" mentality of some players is not a product of the original game's design - it's the meta of the game instilled upon it by the players and continued over the years with each title. And I'm fine in that aspect, but players need to stop pretending that the intention of Gears was to be almost exclusively CQC shotgun engagements.

I still don't understand the purpose of bullets not coming out from the barrel. And I played the 360 version online before anyone calls me a filthy casul.

I know gold rush and courtyard and that other one was in gears 2 (and gears 1 pc), but they suck, they don't work for gears 1

Well anyways preorder info has emerged, can't find it anymore but I saw civilian Anya with an imulsion weapon skin coming with the game day one, also Savage Grenadier Elite (one of the best designed locust out there, if not the best) is going to be GameStop exclusive, take with a grain of salt because of me being dumb and not being able to find this thing but yea

I really want to see how they turn gears 3 characters to this game and the subtle design changes they make to them

also just noticed that Minh has been in every single gears game as mp

I'm of the opinion that the shotgun aiming alignment in the original Gears was objectively bad game design, but that for a direct remake like this, having it match that original style, particularly for multiplayer, is important.

How? I am only able to see my own in war journal.

And are stats for ranked and quick combined or separate? Because in war journal they are combined. I also thought there was no stats for quick.

When the game brings up the team-overview, you should be able to cycle through the players with the left stick. Choose the player you'd like to see stats of and press 'X'.

yep this game will die very quickly because fall is packed with high profile games and the gears 1 elitist are just a very small vocal minority. i think they should just leave gears 1 the way it is because there is just too much fix and gears 3 bc is just around the corner as is gears 4

Wow this is not noob friendly at all :/ The original was my first ever MP experience but I never played it much and the last Gears MP I played was back when 3 first released. Not sure if I will ever get any better at it when everyone I match up with is already level 20 and know how to play it very well. Then I get to hear them talk shit constantly between rounds...

No offence, but this is another thing that made the first gears amazing. That in-lobby banter on execution between opposing teams was priceless! Before party chat became a thing, of course.

QFT - one of my fave aspects, gears 1 is a very social game, people are much more chilled than the likes of cod

It's cool, no offense taken. It's how the game is. Just doesn't help me want to keep playing after getting slaughtered, lol.

Does anyone find the game to be too quiet? Not enough quips from enemies yelling "Smmmooooooke!!!" and whatnot? Not enough yelling from leaders like Hoffman in between rounds?

Maybe all that stuff was in Gears 3 and not in Gears 1, so it would make sense for it to not be in Gears 1 Remastered. But I still like all that noise and chitchat very much.

I'm trying to get into this.... Really trying. I've played all of the Gears campaigns and a shit ton of Horde, but never PvP. It's sooooooo slow for me. Yes, I spend the majority of my PvP time in Halo and COD. Yes, I understand that this is a different style of game. I just wish I could get into it. I love the universe and the game play but in PvP it just feels weird to me.

Can someone please send me a code?

:(

My girlfriends graduation got relocated inside do to weather and I can't go and I'd really like to do something fun..

Don't mean to beg.

Yup, he basically missed all those shots except one. When you're that close, scope in.

Believe me, I've got the le's for all 4 gears and i'm still awful at it. But when you get your nose rubbed in it in the lobby and then get a sneaky kill on them next round and rub their nose in it it's a right laff. All very playground and that, but there was never any ill will. As angelic rightly said, was a great community back then.

Has there always been severe hitstun after you melee with a weapon.

And it feels like point blanks come out the center of the screen and anything further than arms length comes out the barrel.

LOL just hit two guys with Boom splash and they didn't even DBNO.
i remember when gears 3 first released the boomshot was super powerful, the radius was huge because after the initial shot would land an after shock type explosions would occur but everyone complained so epic patched it. cant remember it being this weak though

yh i noticed this earlier, the character switches into a gears 3 stance so u can clearly see the bullets coming from barrel but sometimes its centre screen too. dont know wtf is going on, im just pop shoting, blindfire is too risky

I played my one daily match earlier to unlock todays skin and it's taking forever for a room to fill with 8 people king of the hill, might just be bad luck or bad timing but it doesn't feel good waiting so long only days after the beta launched.

Got scared earlier. Thought I was at work during the Cole skin times. Phew, I'm not :p

Why is this even a thing "the coalition"?

Only really have two complaints about the game.

One is center screen aiming. Yeah it was in the original Gears but it was ditched for a reason. It's unintuitive and dumb and has no place in a third person shooter.

Second is the Gnasher. Oh boy, this thing. I've never seen so many one shot downs in my life. I don't know if it's an issue with the spread or what but it has to be toned down a little bit. Not to mention it's wildly inconsistent to boot. Maybe if they switch to barrel shooting it will help a little bit but I am just so damn tired of being one shot downed with such regularity.

I will have to get my hands on a 360 to test it but i'm sure hip fire in ultimate is much tighter then on 360, might explain so many one shot downs happening more often.

Headshots also do huge damage and with the nature of the projectiles coming from the camera it's like aiming down at your target, in fact if you level out the camera you end up shooting over the head of your target.

After loving the first gears mp. And playing every gears that came out. Coming back to this was tough. I usually do good if I can find a good team. I just keep getting stuck with people who don't know what they're doing and just get destroyed every game. It's gonna take a while to adjust to the gnasher hit box. The other thing is that I can't jump out of the wall I can only move off and on the wall which screws me up when trying to evade while in cover. I hope they come out with process. That was my favorite gears 1 map even though it was dlc.

I don't know if I'm lagging or the other player is lagging, but my shots didn't register at all tonight. My ping was 37ms when I joined the lobby, so unless it shot up a lot once the game began, I don't understand why my bullets aren't doing damage. The lag has been as bad as the original release, at times.

how much of a delay is there supposed to be from holding A to actually sprinting. or tapping it to roll or get into cover. because it feels very sluggish to me. or was it like this in the original?

Shout outs to people who wait in the lobby and quit when there is 5 seconds left in the countdown or when the map loads. Fucking bums. I love this game, but the matchmaking is the purest essense of booty, but not the good kind.
