...Are you kidding me, Dali?

The beginning of GiTS had Motoko naked, and now you're complaining she's being oversexed in SAC? That is already the original point of the character.

Hey I don't agree with the she has to be naked for her camo to work design choice for the movie, but overall that design is still much better than what they did to her in the series. She looks like a cutesy moe character surrounded by a bunch of characters that are rendered and designed much more realistically. Look at her nose and her eyes... and the hair, the purple fucking hair. She just doesn't fit in relation to the other character designs or what Kusanagi is supposed to look like.

If Kusanagi's main draw from the manga was her being a woman, that's fine. The movie took advantage of this in her two naked camo scenes, but her demeanor and the way she looked was that of a serious leader of an elite squad. In the series, even if she wasn't wearing that stupid purple battle leatard so much, the rest of her design still ruins it for me.

agree'd.

Still I would watch the series but her character design just nags at me for taking away from the seriousness of the series.

I do agree with what you are saying, how she looks out of place in SAC but the Manga did have its fair share of fanservice; especially the newer Manga.
Besides can you blame Shirow for redesigning her for his fanbase? Look at his pin-up works, so ecchi its almost hentai to good to be true. :D

I've got the graphic novel version of the original and each individual Dark Horse release of Man-Machine Interface. MMI is something different altogether so I won't address that. I understand there is fanservice in the original GitS, but it would be something like a scene where she is getting dressed (into appropriate combat gear) or a panty shot because she is kicking in a skirt, or an explosion that tears off some of her clothes. Things that are momentary and are actually worked well into the overall scene. I guess since SAC complex is a tv show they couldn't have the very brief yet more suggestive fanservice of the movie or manga, so instead they changed her into a moe character and gave her less clothes.

BTW are you talking about the the Gal Grease, stuff? I love Shirow's style, but since he went digital it has really been down hill. I see some of his Gal Grease stuff and I think to myself this looks really really good. I guess he finally got the hang of Photoshop. Too bad he's using his new-found talents on porn.

I would never say Kusanagi is a Moe character ever, because shes not an "adorable" character compared to what others consider moe. Sure she has less clothes but that never made her less serious in my eyes. But still everyone has their own opinion. I though the manga Kusanagi was also good to (more humorous as well). And nice figures everyone.

Ooh... are you gonna take it out of its box? Take lotsa pictures :)

I'd be all over that... if I was into Xenogears, but it still looks like an awesome cast.

That said, I've put out orders for some figures. Most of them are on preorder though! (shipping late this month).

I never take em out of the boxes. I just like everything to be kept in pristine form. It's just a habit of mine. I have a thing where if I never plan to use it, it stays in the box. Except for vg hardware and certain accessories. Plus I don't have to worry about dust that way.

Look at my 1up page and decide for yourself if there is a display case to showcase all of that. More room is something I really need.

I don't even need to look at photos... boxed figures take up more space than opened ones.

You have a point there. :lol But I still have no display room regardless. Not right now at least.

They made a blue one of those too, dunno how tough it is to find now. We sold out a long time ago.

I actually had the choice between the blue one and this one. I also saw a few toyz-like custom color ones by doing a google search.

To each his own. The SAC Kusanagi just seems like a pathetic attempt to sex-up the lead character, but in doing so she comes across looking more like a clown. All the other characters, even other female characters, look more appropriate. They give Motoko the mal-formed face of a doll, purple fucking hair, and usually she is wearing some stupid swimsuit leatard thing no matter what the situation is (Important meeting? I know, I'll wear my nice professional purple leatard. *rollseyes*). She just doesn't fit in with the other characters and doesn't look like the leader of an elite government agency as she does in the movie or the manga.

There is a pretty good reason for this. I would put it in my own words, but this guy said it better than I could dream of:

"There's a psychological reason the Major dresses the way she does: to feel feminine. She underwent the full cyberization process at a very young age, and has swapped bodies several times. This leaves her feeling as though she has no real body, and hence no physical gender other than that of whatever body she uses at the time. So she dresses in an over-sexualized way in order to prompt a reaction from men in order to reaffirm her own mental gender construct."

That makes sense to me. She doesn't wear the "leotard" all the time either. She has several different outfits in the series including body suits that covers almost all of her body, trench coats, and a classy military uniform. She can get away with wearing a bikini bottom some of the time because she's a fucking bad ass.

She's a deathly earnest character and I think it was wise to give her such a sexualized, stylized appearance to balance that out. I mean, Togusa and Batou look more "normal" but their personalities are a whole lot more laid back as well. Batou even cracks jokes. I would have been turned off by the Kusanagi character if she was all business.

Justify her clothes however you'd like, but aside from how stupid her attire looks most of the time, I also pointed to her features in general looking out of place in relation to everyone else. But, as I said, to each his own. Someone said they liked the SAC Motoko design the most, I said I found it the ugliest and most poorly conceived.

My philosophy is thus - Shirow sans Shirow art is shit.

Thus, SAC and all Shirow based anime is shit. :p

Kusanagi in the manga is the way she is because Shirow is adept at, and I assume likes, drawing pretty girls.

Anyhow duckroll where did you get that amazing display case and how much did it set you back?

I have departed with quite a lot of my figures (all my MGS1/2 McFarlane figures for example); here are the ones I have left which I will be keeping for good.

w3wt!

If only my Poison statue would rape my Chun Li statue. :p

I really need to buy a display cabinet for these statues. :D

Hot damn. I want that. I know its a dude in some countries (but not in others?) but I want that.

Poison is WIN regardless of gender. If that makes me teh gay, then so be it. Butt-rot and all.

Damn GAF, where are you getting your display cases?!

I'm looking at Ikea now and they have some nice inexpensive ones; but there's no Ikea store in ghetto shithole Cleveland, much less anywhere in Wal-Mart subsidiary Ohio. >:|

Am I gonna have to drive to Shittsburgh for a display case?

Where's the best place to buy figures online? I'm particularly looking for this one
51VC48J7KTL._SS500_.jpg

but Amazon only sells it through other companies and reading through some feedback reports it doesn't seem worth the risk to order from them. Where's the most trustworthy and cheap place to order some figures?

Yeah, I've got an order for Poison as well.

And Cammy... and have my Chun Li figure already.

Thrown in I-no into the mix for good measure.

I just need an appropriate camera to take snaps when they all arrive.

Also have a dante and vergil statue on order.

But the first figure I'll have arriving is the last one I ordered; Mine Blue

bikini girl on a bike.

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I found this Blue Mary figure at a recycle shop the other day for only 600 yen. I saw it once before complete for 2500 yen, and when I found the Mai figure that goes with it for a lower 1500 yen price, it was gone. But the same place had it back again, this time sans packaging, so it was cheap cheap cheap.

They also had this adult-form Natsumi figure I picked up a few weeks ago.

Went with the black version since it came with Giroro instead of Keroro...better facial expression.
