Geist IGN Review

Im not going to pass judgement on you by that statement, but are you saying you only play games that got high reviews? Thats exactly the kind of thing that everyone complains about on here. Looking at it this way though, IGN also reviewed Mario Kart: Double Dash at only one point higher, a 7.9. I think the review score should be nothing more than a guideline, no one should base what they play on if it gets about a 8.0. Try it for yourself first.
Well, no. When I see a game and some screens and videos I can just know if I would be able to enjoy it or not and then I would obviously try it. But if I check out some game with bad screens and stuff and the gameplay doesn't look all that unique (it looks like a regular fps) and it gets low scores, I would pass it immediately. No questions asked.

I get the sense that Matt really tries to encourage these smaller developers which IMO is not a bad thing.

The guy they interviewed at IGN (can't recall his name?) seemed really nice as well. It was an awkward interview at stages, when you interview someone who is basically honest and there's a lot they obviously can't say, and have to choose their words really carefully....well that's the way it came across anyway. But you kind of really want these guys to do well.

You know, I won't comment about anything else, but controls can be sluggish, sloppy, and unresponsive and still NOT break a game, this remaining functional. I do believe he mentioned that he completed the game, and generally had no problems doing so except for that one NPC-related (pathfinding, was it?) bug.

IMHO, when the controls (or any other element) prevent you from actually succeeding in the game, that's when it strays away from functional into game-breaking territory.

from the sound of things in ign's video interviews, n-space and nintendo will be working together again. the funny thing is, at times, geist looks really nice. however, there's other moments where it looks like complete ass. the character models could really use some work. i'm kind of interested in this one, especially after watching the interviews, but i've got too much on my plate and not enough time to play as it is. maybe later...

edit: and it's very clear from the interviews that geist started as a fps. it seems it evolved into a 'fpa'... lol. the guys from n-space keep saying, "first person shooter" and then immediately correct themselves and say "first person action" lol.

It's obvious that Matt went out of his way to give the review a positive spin.

It's obvious that you have something against this game and just don't like seeing it get a decent score. What did you dislike about playing Geist? What were your least favorite parts? Was there any part you enjoyed? What's your review score?

I've heard not too much about this game. Maybe it will be a sleeper and be worth playing. I kind of like not knowing too much about a game, and in this case, next to nothing at all. It was the same with me and Eternal Darkness. Granted, ED has aged pretty badly and is not so hot now that I have seen others play it recently, but I did enjoy my experience with ED when I bought it.

Maybe Geist will be similar? I'll have to check it out, perhaps.

This will be the worst selling Gamecube game published by Nintendo ever.

Then my copy will be worth that much more (teh rar3)

I see this as something that with a little more polish and tweaking would have been much more of a game. Plus we all have to admit it's the best N-space has ever done. Under Nintendo's wing even a shit company can drop a less smelly turd and shine it up well enough.

Also, I guess They are working on DS titles now, I still want to know what Hope is.

I was about to make a smarmy comment, but then I noticed you specified GameCube game...

For the record, what were the total sales for Custom Robo, 1080, WaveRace, and Eternal Darkness?

the game has been preordered a lot at my local EB, hard to believe yes. for all we know this one could be a sleeper.

No. ED came out swinging and landed every punch. There's a difference between a game that averages 91% on Game Rankings to a game that hardly tops 70%.

I was just flipping channels and happened to see a commercial for Geist. The commercial was done pretty well. This may sell a bit better than we expect.

They seem to be pushing the game HARD. I've been seeing ads on TV for almost a week now. I'm happy, because I enjoyed the game quite a bit. It's a definite sleeper.

Can't wait for Geist 2 with holograms! haha. I think I will try to play the game if I can get it cheap.

That was the first time I had seen the commercial, but then again I don't watch TV that much anymore. Still, the commercial had good production values. Nintendo seems to be throwing it's weight behind the title. Haven't seen any print ads yet, but I am sure those are out there as well. Personally, I can't wait to try the game, just so I can determine make up my mind for myself. The game looked like more of an adventure game than a FPS from the beginning anyway, at least IMO. I'll pick it up after a price drop.

This is ED all over again, i bought that title, what a dissappointment. It was ok but it wasnt super like the hype. I wont be buyign this one, thats for sure. Rental baby.

This isn't ED, ED received solid reviews across the board. It's just loathed at GAF. Geist won't be receiving those sorts of scores, I'd wager.
