Geoff Johns on the Future of DC Movies

Johns is a talented story teller, I trust in his vision.

Though I really didn't mind the tone at all in the DC movies up until this point, that wasn't the issues for some of them.

DC trying to correct the mistakes of Justice League.

They really don't have a clue how to portray their characters onscreen. Superman being the worst.

Is the rest of this thread going to be lame Martha jokes and not actually discussing the interview?

But I'm glad Johns is heading this. He has more in common with Feige than a lot would think. On paper he's one of the top 5 candidates who should be runnin this.
The tone problem doesn't explain other problems like Martha problem

Wouldn't it be insane if they really turn this situation around? Fox did it with Deadpool. I know one is a one-off movie and the other is a growing cinematic universe, but still

Which is why they got someone who know's how to.....

Right, which is a good move. But have they done too much damage is the question. I'm hoping WW will deliver, but if that doesn't and Justice League misfires then they may as well hang it up and try again.

Well, SS is nearing 700 mil so the interest is definitely still there. The potential is endless and all they need to do is start making good movies.

GOOD.

The hardcore fans can go on pretending there was nothing wrong with BvS but at least the people in power aren't that blind and acted immediately to right the fucking ship.

Looking forward to actual good films in this CU.

This is terrible.
This interview is like a snyder nightmare sequence from a documentary on the DCEU.
I love the absolutely stupid train of thought there too:
"suicide squad was ruined by editorial meddling and got some of the worst reviews of all DC movies in 15 years"
"the solution to this is, clearly, further editorial meddling from executives like geoff johns"

RIP in pieces DCEU.

The fuck? Johns is a producer and writer on these films, he's now essentially an even more hands-on Feige. These films very well could still suck, but some of you all are just having knee-jerk negative reactions to the mere uttering of "DCEU" without bothering to actually comprehend what's happening.

Yeah but what about all the Martha memes that are so funny?

This is an interesting train of thought here too.

Thank you!

With the foundation they have, I am obviously worried how Johns can retroactively fix a lot of stuff but Rebirth shows he at least gets it.

You don't know who Geoff Johns even is, do you...

Seriously, what would Geoff Johns know about Batman?

His Earth One books are terrible and I've always gotten the impression he pretty much hates the character.

All three movies have been profitable despite their rancidness. They ain't hanging shit up. They probably think the only thing they need to do is make the critics chuckle once every twelve minutes.

I don't hold Johns in such high regard, first, he is an idea man, but he struggles to give conclusion to his ideas.
Second, he is a very violent and bleak writer for my tastes, don't see how will this traslate to cinema.

He's really not. Especially when you look at his JSA stuff, Shazam, and his two Superman runs.

studio meddling just means they'll be more boringly stupid instead of entertainingly stupid
That's the worst part! I want Lex Luthor whose bizarre as fuck, Murderman and Sociopathman, weird inconsistent tone, etc. It's gonna be so dry now :(

If they can't give us TDK quality they may as well go balls-in with making it shit!

Well at this point there's 3 films to sweep under the rug...better now than down the line.

This right here - and the fact that they're rewriting Wonder Woman confirms that it was also going to be a trainwreck. Thank you Geoff Johns!

DC is the Nintendo of the film industry
Nah, Nintendo still puts out a bunch of good games even if they're hampered by bad hardware ideas and marketing. DC doesn't have the Super Mario Maker or Pikmin 3 of their film universe.

If anything, they're Bizarro Nintendo. The end product is mediocre to bad and their marketing and general movie universe structure is on point.

MoS -> Batman V Superman -> Suicide Squad

Would have been a great way to start their universe if the movies were good. Brings in two of your biggest characters and follows it up with an obscure property to get people interested in characters they probably don't know about.
