Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions |OT| After 6 years of Pacifism, the King returns.

The spherical levels are kinda weird but other than that, I'm loving the game. Not sure how anyone that liked either of the first two couldn't at least somewhat enjoy this one as well.
Yeah its a lot harder to keep track of the 3D playfield but it's definitely Geometry Wars and I definitely think it's a worthy addition to the series.

Yeah, okay, was concerned about the drive to freshen up the visuals would somehow fuck up the playability and certainty of the classic core game that demands precision in the most difficult moments.

The differences between Geometry Wars 3 classic and Geometry Wars 2 feel smaller than the differences between Geometry Wars 2 and Geometry Wars 1. If that makes any sense to you. :D

Damn, this game is ugly. Blech. The UI is godawful as well. Holding my nose here.

Gameplay is fun though, I loved Galaxies on DS and this is very very similar. Was also surprised to see a matchmaking option.

I can indeed confirm native supersampling on PC, I think someone was asking that earlier. Looks crisp.

This game isn't out on Xbox One yet, right? Just making sure incase I can still get the preorder benefits

Edit: actually looking over it, it is apparently available already

Missed pre-ordering it on Steam and PS4. Didn't see this release with all the other games. No way to get that extra level?

Man, I'm kind of disappointed with this. The visuals are no where near as beautiful as previous games, the UI isn't very pleasing, and mostly...there aren't many options for online play. The game only offers a couple competitive game modes. It's just not as vibrant and spectacular. The best times i've ever had with geo wars is playing locally with friends in the classic game modes for hours. For some reason I was expecting we would be able to play everything online with friends. Cant even play the classic modes locally now. I will give it more time but as of now im kinda bummed.

Sorry, I meant either the released version or the pre-release that was at shows like PAX Australia and such. Should've fleshed it out a little better!

No worries. Yeah, I downloaded the game last night and my comments were based on my 1.5 hrs or so that I spent with it.

geom collection was never my strong suit but it seems like they disappear at an almost mean spirited rate in this one.

I Just let the geoms come to me. I get way to wrapped up in their mind game and lose out.

There is always a bit of tilt to the camera, but yeah, they have retro modes for everything from GWRE2, minus sequence.
Do you mean retro modes as in the types of game, or the graphics? I think what some are referring to in this thread by "retro" is this kind of style:

There's nothing really there in this game that evokes the era the way the first two main tiles (and various spinoffs) do.

it still has the art style. it's just really polished now. i see what you're saying, and you're not wrong, but it's a silly thing to hold against a beautiful game.

holy shit I thought this came out tomorrow .I've been sitting here the last few hours basically being bored and just staring at my monitor hoping some crazy Black Friday sales would start already. I would have been playing this instead if I knew

Not holding it against it per se, I just think it works against what it was going for all this time: a game that could well have come from the 80s but tweaked to all hell on current-gen systems (hence it's reference in the PGR games as an actual arcade machine in the garage, which you could walk up and play). They should've gone the Minter route of adding a few shaded bits here and there whilst keeping the black background IMO.

Just feels like you're no longer playing in a dingy arcade, I guess.

But like I said, I'm definitely getting it on Steam, so I'll pass a more accurate judgement when I'm not playing it at a kiosk inside a nerd fest.

i do the xbox record thing after I'm done, but it only saves 30 seconds. if i knew when i wanted to record i could do the first thing. thanks man. loving this game!

Geo War 2 fans... Yay or nay? I've been kinda skeptical about this game after the timid PAX reception.

Just a quick clip of the first claustrophobia level in adventure mode (1st on XB1!). Absolutely loving this game. Actually like it a bit more than GW2. Only been playing adventure mode so far, and while it's pretty inconsistent quality-wise, some of the levels, like the one in that clip, are incredibly brilliant.

For any playstation players that are new to the series, how's adventure mode treating you? The difficulty curve seems to be all over the place, which I'm not a big fan of so far.

Edit: Wasn't 1st for very long :'(

The classic mode is Geometry Wars 2 minus sequence mode. The gameplay is basically intact. The audio visual presentation is different, but equally great in my opinion.

I'm a huge Geometry Wars 2 fan who no longer owns a 360, and I've been playing this thing for like 8 hours with a smile on my face.

Huge fan of Geom 2, I'd say go ahead and pick it up.

I don't think it's quite as good in classic modes but it's definitely a worthy entry into the series.

at the very least you have an almost facsimile on your current system. it's good, and i haven't even played the new adventure mode yet.
Thanks everyone, will pick it up tomorrow. :)

At the very least, if I end up up hating adventure mode - I'll always be able to play pacifism on a PS4...

So, the hitboxes really are larger, yes? I feel like there are times when I'm hitting things when I feel like the ship should have dodged it.

Also, love the main theme :)

Can anyone confirm buying the xb1 version now means I won't get the extra stages? I wasn't sure if it included a launch window like I think the 360 version does?

Finished up adventure mode. Levels 49 and 50 will either be a dream or nightmare come true depending on how insanely difficult you like it.

Now to three star everything.
help me infection levels are ridiculous

People genuinely think this game looks bad? I don't get it. Anyway, I am enjoying Adventure mode, but something I've always hated about Geometry Wars' Classic/Evolved mode is that the first 60 to 90 (or even more depending on your level) seconds are basically a complete waste of time with no challenge at all especially when you get to higher score tiers. It's really boring. They could easily cut that out without any issues.

Not bad, just not as good as the original. They really toned down the effects. On the plus side, it's easier to see the enemies now.

I'm really enjoying it so far but I have two issues. It's locked at 50fps on PC no matter what options I choose. I run it at very high since it's really nothing to push, but with a 144hz monitor I'd love more.

Second issue is I tried running it in Mac OS (I have a hackintosh) and there is no video options? Really, I mean not even resolution? It's stuck at something awful at low settings and doesn't recognize my controller that works in all other games.

Played a little last night. Pacifism seems to scale very quick now. The ship movement feels slower than the original.
