OG PS4 wasn't even completely utilizing the SATA II though, it was transferring all the data through USB (2.0 IIRC), so if they just utilize the SATA data bus, we should see an improvement regardless.

They removed the USB controller in the 1200 model, and SSDs saw no speed increase.

I went ahead and ordered that 4TB 850 EVO. Should be here on Tuesday. Hype.

Really tempted to do the same
Just had to delete a bunch of stuff from my current 2tb drive

(Especially since I just found out my 2015 Samsung tv was one of the few updated with HDR10)

Do people really have that much of a problem with deleting stuff once in a while?

Well I've got unlimited 30Mbit internet so it's not too much of an issue. But downloading games is slow especially on PSN so I can just have a quick game of a game I hadn't played in months.

A lot of people have usage limits for their internet downloading a 50gb game twice in a month could be significant chunk of their data.

Thought about it and I don't really need a 2TB drive so just went for the 1TB Firecuda. If anything it limits my glut of games that I have on the go at any one time.

At almost all times I have Destiny + one or two other games (often smaller digital games). This is why a 500GB SSD will be more than enough for me! Looking forward to the performance comparisons.

The problem is definitely with how slow PSN downloads stuff

I don't have a problem with deleting stuff at all on PC and to a lesser extent on Xbox one but PSN downloads are brutal

It's a bummer that the firecudas are sold out. I think I'll just pickup the 2TB barracuda instead. If tests show that PS4Ps benefit from SSHDs, I'll upgrade later on.

I may just go with the 1TB option. I usually just have a few games installed at a time. Still...2TB. Would be nice.

Would this drastically increase the load times in Bloodborne?

We're still in the dark regarding hard drive differences aren't we? Got a 2tb Firecuda order awaiting stock on Amazon UK, but thinking of going with a standard 2tb so it comes in time for PS Pro. Am I likely to notice slow down if I choose that going from an SSHD in my current PS4?

I don't have a link on hand, but teardowns and threads on here confirmed the USB controller was removed in the 1200 model and that tests with SSDs provided no speed increase over older PS4 models.

Going to be real interesting to see how Pro turns out.

Hoping for a 1TB 850 EVO during black Friday to hit around the $200 mark, otherwise will go for whatever brand does hit that size/price.

Embargo is up on the 7th no?
I'm hoping media will have tested this by then so we'll know before launch date.
I have no idea. Good news if true! Hopefully they'll have them out early next week.

I'll probably save the Pro and an SSD as a Christmas present if it looks worthwhile. I just *know* I'll start looking at 4K if I buy one though... and that means a new amp as well as TV.

Uh oh.
Where's the confirmation for that?

Maybe don't open it yet...

Does it matter? We still know SSD performs significantly faster in PS4 over standard and hybrid

What we are hoping is they'll knock it up to SATA III

If you're iffy and you need even more of a speed increase than we already know you get from SSD then just wait till Nov 7 to open the SSD or SSHD box

I wouldn't call it significantly faster overall, no.
It's faster but varies from game to game so it's definitely worth the upgrade to a hybrid drive as the entry cost is pretty reasonable.
The cost-benefit ratio for SSD is a harder sell.

Hybrid drives are a no brainer.
I just want to see if SSD is truly significantly faster before I spend the money.

I know nothing about hard drive specs but would like more space and am intrigued by the possibility of faster loading times. Is this the one people are buying? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-ST2000DX002-Firecuda-Internal-2000-GB-88-9-mm/dp/B01ICLGJIK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=19YVNT6AMJP2YFWQJR88

No.
That is the 3,5" version of the Firecuda.

But you need the 2,5" version.

This is the version you are looking for:
