Ghost of Tsushima |OT| - Summer blade cuts through, the PlayStation shall go on, this is its swan song

Alright, now this is confusing as all fuck.

Now I just completed a Norio tale, and Lady Masako’s “The Traitor” (4/9) now switched to “The Thief”, which is now at 7/9? What the hell is going on?? 🤔 This isn’t a gripe, I’m simply at a complete loss as to how the Tales’ mission structure is executed. It appears that other character’s side quests are affected by your progress with another.
Just do whatever number comes first... sometimes a later tale becomes unlocked but you should do the preceding ones first really.

If you start following a fox and you get lost, the fox will wait for you. Just backtrack and he will be there waiting to help guide you to the shrine!

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Enjoying the game then?
Honestly? I’ve spent so far 60 hours and I still haven’t got the assassinate skill or the bow... so I have no idea how good the actual game is 😂

It seems like a odd design decision, allowing players to be able to do a narrative event out of order (which I don't think you can, actually). There's no reason I can see to split up these tales.
Not sure if this has been posted, but apparently the weather changes based on how you play. The more you use Ghost abilities and stealth, the stormier it gets throughout the game. Interesting read here:

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ghost-of-tsushimas-weather-changes-depending-on-ho/1100-6479889/
I suppose it could be argued that this mechanic will encourage players to change their play style, but many people are going to be left clueless as to why it's raining/sunny all the time as it's not explained in the narrative nor in any other mechanics I've seen. Having the same weather all the time is boring; variety is what gives the game such an aesthetic appeal, and can't say I agree with tying player agency to it, especially when you don't tell them. Thunderstorms should be a treat to see, not happening all the time.

Completed the game yesterday afternoon and got the platinum 2 hours later.

Although I was fully satisfied by the game and the story it told, I didn't think I was going to get emotional at all.

And then came the final tale.

When Jin and Lord Shimura write the last words of clan Sakai and clan Shimura, I didn't expect to have to write a haiku, and I especially didn't expect to write one so beautiful. That caught me off-guard. It left an impact on me.

I did not hesitate to spare Lord Shimura. Jin is traumatized by the memory of witnessing his father's death, and feels responsible for not helping to save his father's life. I couldn't imagine Jin killing Lord Shimura and owning the responsibility for the deaths of BOTH of his fathers. I do appreciate the choice, though.

I will return to Tsushima when NG+ is available and I am hoping I will be able to do it on PS5.

Thumbs up.
You should really try the other ending, i promise you its very good and emotional.

Holy shit that makes me wonder, if you kill Shimura, do you then read his Haiku???? Anyone that chose to kill him could you enlighten us?
No you dont

Both bows are part of side missions on the first part of the island though

I’m confused about the tales. I have two for Lady Masako...one titled “The Family Man” (in Toyotama) which says I’m on 6/9, and another named “The Traitor” (in Izuhara), which I’m on 4/9. I know for a fact I haven’t played ten of her quests.

There’s only one revenge story of hers that always plays out the same?
You should go in order, like 1/9 is first 2/9 is second, 4/9 comes before the 6th in time, some are available at the same time.
There is a hidden Masako quest on the beach were the first battle takes place, to the upper left of the southern island.

I'm enjoying the game, but man, it is getting pretty repetitive. I'm not even on Act 3 yet, and it's just been a grind. Still fun for the most part. Lethal Mode is more fun, since your attack power is also boosted too, just makes everything a bit faster and higher stakes.

Finished (Hard(actually not very hard)) ... picked the 'bad ending'.... actually quite emotional.

My personal GOTY and probably not much I see to beat it....

Look forward to replaying on (hopefully) new game + when I get a PS5.

I picked the option to let him live. I figured he'd already been dishonoured, and like Jin said, his Uncle was a 'slave' to honour. I'll pick the other option in my second playthrough

I'm in act 3 and did all the collectibles except vanity gear. I mastered all techniques except a couple explorer ones. Gonna finish the remaining Tales and main missions, I should have it finished in a day or two.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
A week or so behind but have just started my playthrough.

BIt daunting at first, it’s the kind of game I’ll only play once so will spend some quality lockdown time with it collecting everything, reading everything, upgrading everything etc.

At the rate that I'm going, I'm probably getting all stances and upgraded through most skills before I finish Act 1. So I've decided to leave the side quests and just do story missions for now. Kind wish that some upgrades are locked behind some story progression to pace it out, but its really on me for grinding out stuff so early on. I hope there's more things to unlock at this point that are unknown to me. Best game I've played thus far this year.

Holy shit, the duel balance on lethal is insane.

I keep getting one hit killed whereas the enemy takes pretty much as many hits as usual hah.

Keep leaving the main missions alone to do side content and explore. I guess it's good for the incoming drought to stretch the game out. Game looks so good... the enviromental artists that came up with the looks of the island, the peaks, the elevated shorelines etc...just top notch quality. Masterful work on terrain elevation all around.

Do the sword kits make any difference or they just cosmetic?
There was a video about getting a unique one that does more damage but the game never really tells you if one is better then the other.

I think I'm a little too OP for where I'm at. I'm still on first act, been doing most of all the side-content available.

Already have the 4 stances, the longbow, one skill tree fully complete. Health and resolve are pretty high too, since I've been doing bamboo's and springs too.

I'm ruining the game like this, am I? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

They all think it's better than BOTW (Max Dood and friends)

The game would benefit so much of having less marks on the map and having you use it more like a map instead of a GPS tho, like BoTW....i've played without using the markers for a while and it's almost completely possible, the pieces are there, strangely enough. Every white smoke pillar it's a tale and most collectibles have a golden bird attached to it, so in reality, seems like the game was made to be explored without the map but somehow didn't push trough with it.

Also, ninja claws, Jin needs ninja claws so we can climb more shit.

Use the ninja tools more, they are stupidly op.

Lol sorry for the response, i didn't realized that you were the same dude :lollipop_blowing_kiss:

The ninja weapons are defo op. But that's kind of the point at least narratively speaking. You can absolutely walk into camps, (even end-game forts) with just your Katana and take on wave after wave of enemies and slashing through them like a god. That also assumes you have pin precise control over parry, dodge, stance changes and more which I reckon a lot of players probably won't have so I welcome additions in difficulty.

This still makes sense to me, since Jin is completely outnumbered in alot of engagements, with the larger scale set piece fights being easier since he's backed by yari/samurai support. What would be interesting is that the ghost weapons tie into the plot in an inevitable sequel - like the more dishonourable you play (stealthily) there are different narrative consequences, such as a higher standing with the folk in Umegi Cove (as well as the potential benefits) and being hounded by samurai across the land whereas fighting honourably would have the opposite consequence, or maybe you are more likely to be challenged by Ronin since you are now a walking mythic tale. SP did morality systems before and it was okay so I'm interested to see if they go down this route.

Totally agree. I was wondering why it was super sunny all the time when I started the game, now it’s constantly raining. Love the rain though, and at least I can change the weather with the flute.

Got the platinum on stream. Played and streamed the game in its entirety, took roughly 50 to 60 hours for the platinum.

My final verdict

-Overrated game

-No combat lock on

-Horrifc camera during combat in close quarters

-Bland visuals in many places except the wilderness and wide open areas

-Best photo mode in any game to date

-Duels were cool at first, but watching a 10 second intro of the sword taken out gets super annoying and unimaginative

-Sony's version of a Ubisoft game. The "random" yellow birds and foxes are NOT random or dynamic. They're actually static and the devs lied about that stuff being secret or dynamic. Those are just collectibles pre placed in the map for you too chase and give you an illusion the world is alive when it is absolutely all static and all scripted out.

-Random peasants who constantly need saving from the mongols are AC's version of "dynamic" events. Like in AC Unity. They are always same and repeated randomly.

-Good ending and the choice is nice.

-Gray scale map is a horrible idea. Hard to tell what you've done and didn't, specifically for collectibles. Should of been color coded. I had to zoom in on map and count collectible markers in the year 2020.

-quests in Act 3 are not fun and some of the side quests in the game feel like an annoying slow slog. Specifically escort quests.

-Snow looks like shit in this game. Then again, snow looks shit in most games.

-Platforming in this game is unresponsive and feels disconnected and tryhards to be another AC with parkour.

AC always was and will be superior when it comes to parkour and platforming. Despite older games being a bit iffy they have come a long way.

-Another sony exclusive. Another 3rd person action adventure with platforming and single player story telling.

Sony have you ever thought of diversifying your genre for your exclusives?

Ghost of Tsushima - 3rd person open world single player with heavy emphasis on story.

Spiderman - 3rd person open world single player action game with heavy emphasis on story.

The last of Us 2 - 3rd person, open ended single player action with heavy emphasis on story.

Uncharted 4 and Lost legacy - 3rd person, single player open ended with heavy emphasis on story.

God of War - 3rd person action adventure with heavy emphasis on Story.

Bloodborne - the only game, despite being 3rd person that feels different from other exclusive games and does not really in heavy story telling. With great gameplay and art direction. An actual game instead of an interactive film.

Knack 1 and 2 - Mediocre platformer.

Ratchet and Clank - Feels like a video game, plays like a video game and is fun.

My final score for Ghost of Tsushima.

Enjoyable game for what t is, far from perfect and has many design issues that make the game feel unpolished.

7/10 at best.
6.5/10 is what it deserves.

Just dueled the spirit - fuck me, that was a good fight.

Probably the only criticism is that on hard, it's a little difficult to be as showy as possible because of overlapping attacks etc. It's pure function and speed. I'd like a bit more skill in there, changing things is a little slow mid battle (e.g. kunai to smoke). Minor nitpick though. Noticed the gank squads have gotten a little larger in Act II as well. Still loving it though.

It is, this one has actual rewarding exploration, competent combat and a decent story and when you discover a new place it actually looks good and not like some game from 2 gen ago.

But then again, i didn't appreciated bore of the wild very much so i'm a little biased.

Are you still upset people are shitting on Halo Infinite to post such low quality bait? To be clear, GOT absolutely deserves criticism and it has gotten it in spades - it sits on the same Metascore as the most recent AC games but this just seems like low effort?

Lethal mode is strange, you get killed by less hits but you kill enemies even more faster, like if you do everything right you can dispatch 10 enemies in 15 seconds or less.

Parry window seems the same as hard, same for the enemies being retarded during stealth...

I just dismissed the whole thing when I saw 'bland visuals'....

I really think the game deserves high 80's, it's a better game than Horizon in my opinion.

I think it's really resonated with people and if Sony wanted, it could be their Zelda....

More realistic then.
I mean, the amount of hits some enemies required in hard is just stupid.

Yeah but i don't know how this make the game more difficult...

They don't have a shitload of yellow tennis ball to cure themself unlike you...

They could tune the cure and make it consume 3 or 4 tennis balls instead of one.

With the right armour and charms you literally can't die, not even if you play like a moron.

Yes it is a low quality bait for a game that I fully finished and enjoyed of what it had to offer despite the flaws and issues I've had with it.

Not sure what Halo Infinite has to do with this, but okay. I think the low quality effort is more on your part. This is a thread about Ghost of Tsushima not Halo Infinite, but you are trying to twist the narrative and derail a sensible post that has its opinions whether you like them or not. Try harder next time. I give you A+ for effort but an F for execution.

Well, since they also act more agressive, the game activiely punishes you with more damage if they get hits through. Sure you can heal, but that wont help only for a while if 2 archers are spamming you while two speakmem and a fat guy with a cannon are crawling up your ass.
Also bosses who already do major damage on hard, but dont take much from you, will be harder, but now you also will do more damage.
Overall i’d say its not that its harder per se, but more balanced.

My hope was the opposite, having an actual harder mode and not something that improve both enemies AND your attack damage.

And we are talking only about sword fighting, if you remember to use all the ninja tools and bows even on lethal the game is greatly unbalanced.

Like i said, when you have to forget to use tools and mechanics to have some challenge the game is not what i comsider well balanced.

Horizon had the same problem, i had to totally forget at least 2-3 main op weapons to have some challenge and only with the introduction of ultra hard mode i was finally ready to use those weapons because the cost in resources was absurd and totally balanced the use of these weapons.

Turn out badly, they are still pretty much brain dead.

And it's the same story again, yes you can play naked and not having any charm or armour with better stealth stats, but then, what is the point of having such armours and charms where you have to forget them to have a little bit more challenge.

I find a charm that turn bellrings into poison bomb, so basically 8 gifted kill in a camp, add to that 4 venom darts and 4 crazy darts, you can literally free most of the camps with this stuff, why they even exist?? It's not like the stealth become challenging without them, they are just ridicously powerfull...

The problem with the stealth other than enemIes being bretty blind and deaf is that the alarm state is broken, it last nothing and after a couple of seconds enemoes return to their original positions with dozenz of other mongols cadavers on the ground, it make the ia looks even more idiotic.
