Ghost of Yōtei vs Assassin’s Creed Shadows | Ultimate Graphics Showdown

Sucker Punch is a joke. Couldn't be bothered to enhance the underlying game design and systems AND cheaped out on visuals with 5 years of dev time. Losing to fucking Ubisoft. My lord.

No shit, Horizon FW is 3 years old and crossgen and it beats the snot out of Yotei in every visual aspect.
Genuine question, do you actually like video games? You post (complain) a lot, but I certainly can't recall you ever stating you like anything.

It's true what they say: average chicks can look real cute when put next to an uggo.
and anyone can look good with the right angle/enough instagram filters, and anyone can look bad with the right angle.

I have shadow on ps5pro and it seldom looks like the pics chosen most of the time, which isn't a bad thing it is still beautiful.
To think Yotei will not be impressive visually after all the vids and news that came out is a bit silly.

I choose Onimusha instead.

From tech perspective it might not be as high tech them? (I dont know I'm no tech expert) but I MUCH prefer Onimusha's art direction over these two games.

Maybe because I like how dark and moody Onimusha is compare to GoY and AC Shadows.

"I am Danjin 44, and I'm here to ask you a question.

Is a man not entitled to the 60 fps native 4K experience ?
'No!' says the man in Redmond, 'It belongs to the PC.'
'No!' says the man in Kyoto, 'Only play the same mario games over and over.'
'No!' says the man in San Mateo, 'Just buy the overprice pro console with no tangible upgrades.'

I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different.
I chose the impossible. I chose... Onimusha."

I would follow you and your wild dream to the bottom of the ocean, but im still waiting to experience the demo to totally forgoe civilised society...

They're pursuing completely different styles; both are among the best currently available on consoles.

These days, I find these "competitions" for best graphics ridiculous and a bit childish. The art direction is completely different, that's the difference.

"Do you even like video games??" ☝️🤓
I shouted out Horizon in the same post, but you will excuse me for not thinking my primary purpose needs to be glazing the industry. It's not going in a good direction at all. There's a lot to criticize.

Sir, Sucker Punch has ~160 employees, Guerilla Games 385 and Ubisoft Quebec around 600, with many more studios of Ubi who worked on the game as well.
It seems so that all of them worked on the game..

We speak about a production value of maybe 50 millions for Ghost of Yotei against maybe 150+ millions for Asssasins Creed Shadows.
It doesn't seems like a fair comparison.

Replacing shadow maps with RT Shadows, SSR with RT Reflections and expanding RTGI (to NPCs for example) for sure would make game look better but it would still be in the same ballpark.
Game looks last gen vs. titles that have much better textures, models, number of NPCs, lighting etc.

This is one of many towns in AC Shadows, not the biggest or the most dense but I have not seen anything on this scale in Yotei:

What is the "biggest scale" in Yotei? Same as in Tsushima, ie small villages and a few temples and manors here and there?

I'm fine with criticism, but you appear to have extreme disdain for everything. Hence why I asked. Did you enjoy a single new game this year for example?

As I said in my post.

For AC shadows official figure: Ubisoft confirmed the project cost over €100 million, which is approximately $116 million USD.

For Yotei: they said is approximately around the same as GoT it was around $60 millions. So i think it's safe to assume it's less than $100 millions.

As for HZW: Horizon Forbidden West had a development cost of US$212 million, a figure revealed by Sony in a legal filing for a Microsoft-FTC lawsuit. The game was in development for five years, involving a peak headcount of over 300 full-time employees.

Losing to ubisoft in one of these, and by such a huge margin, has to be embarrassing.
Why embarassing, Shadows has like double budget and in terms of graphics Ubi deliver for years. And what I see in trusted reviews Yotei is bettrer game by 2 points in 10 scale (8 vs 6).

Shadows wins this one handily. Yotei looks almost amateurish in so many areas (lack of destruction, awful water, muddy textures, rock tech, flat lighting, lack of vegetation variation in any screen, no free climbing). All those been related to their dated engine.

AC Shadows is like in the $200-300m. budget department, Horizon FW is $212m., this game is around $60m.

Budget really makes a difference.
Maybe. But it really shows in the end result. They are too far behind the big open world engines (like GTA, AC engine, UE, Decima) and will never be able to catch those with their limited team and budget.

Pokémon Scarlet and violet was around $1m and that didn't stop gamers to criticise the game.

A new game made by Gamefreaks' interns "Beast of reincarnation" with lower budgets than my breakfast looks a lot better than Yotei.

Increasing the budget surely would improve the engine, but it seems that Sucker Punch and Sony are happy with the results

It does... But I've seen indie games made with less money and smaller teams with better looking rock textures and water...

Yotei is basically ps3 level in those (or worse) .

Ugh, who cares, I want to play Yotei not Shadows.

It's better than Tsushima and that's all that matters and other than the water (which isnt a major focus in the game anyway and its still serviceable) everything else seems improved. Tsushima is a beautiful game and so is this.

Ubisoft has always been one of the studios with the best tech. AC series, Watch_Dogs 1-2, Frontiers of Pandora, The Division, Ghost Recon.

Their games are just kinda shit.

You almost sold me on Shadows there, then came the fight and the dumb AI with enemies waiting forever to attack.
Enemies are way more aggressive on the higher difficulty levels. They attack more often, block more, the parry window is reduced, and they're smarter when you use stealth.
Looks good though. A bit weird when certain things are fragile and can be easily destroyed and others are made of adamantium, but the destruction is impressive. How many forced bulky samurai missions are there? I really just want to play as the ninja.
Yasuke is actually really fun to play. You don't have to play as him much. You can mostly play with one or the other, but he has far more combat options when it comes to direct approach and it less frustrating to play as him because he doesn't die in 2 hits and is made to take on large groups of enemies.

I liked most of their AC, Far Cry, Watch dog games. Shadows was the first AC I thought wasn't really good. Gorgeous game though. Used to be Sony studios put all others to shame, but seems now everyone else has caught up if GoY is any indication. But at least I can be fairly certain the gameplay won't suck like it did in Shadows.

Funny you say that, because I think Shadows is one of their better AC games, certainly a lot better than Valhalla, which I guess isn't saying much, but they added more twists to the combat and stealth. People complain about the story, but the last AC game with a story worth a damn was ACII or the Ezio trilogy. Black Flag's story was lame, but the characters and voice acting, especially Edward, made it worth paying attention to.

Shadows does suffer from bloat though, and the game gets much weaker following the opening act. Mind-boggling Ubisoft didn't notice how much better a semi-linear mission structure is when the first part of the game is the most engaging one.

He looks older and puffy eyed in game, not like that model at all IMO. Downgraded cause it's woke. Amirite?
He look good looking to me, especially the second pic.
I don't think i ever heard anyone calling jin ugly before your post.

With yotei they did the opposite, they made the ingame model better looking than the actress (not by much)

Ah yes shadows. The game where every mission became same after first 2h. I also stopped playing after this, which is supposed to be one of main antagonists cutscenes

I'm seeing this instead of what everyone is discussing? I live in the UK so it's likely due to the UK being more locked down than North Korea but this is the first time I've seen such a thing.

Not just in Japan, Jin is a fairly handsome man.

He looks damn near the same, unlike Aloy or female Ryder, who are much uglier than their face models.

Nah, you're looking at that top and bottom pic?! I downloaded a mod to make him look younger and cleaner and he still didn't look that good.

Meanwhile if a female looks just slightly different people get all up in arms.

Destruction physics part is laughable in Yotei.

But this was expected, no? AC engine is far more advanced, they got SW Outlaws running on Switch 2 with RT.
3 likes for what is clearly a misremembered tidbit. AC Shadows and Outlaws don' t run on the same engine whatsoever.
  • Shadows is Anvil.
  • Outlaws is Snowdrop.

All comparisons are fair when the asking price ($70) is the same.

Yes, are you?

Oh, fuck off with this. As if we didn't know there was an agenda to uglify females. There's an internal document from Microsoft/Xbox where they straight-up tell their employees not to make females too attractive.

Yeah, I think the in game looks way worse. Agree to disagree. The amount of hyperbole when a female isn't a 10/10 on this forum is BS and you know it. Average looking Jin gets a pass but average looking Atsu has everyone up in arms. It's constant on every post about this game but holy shit, talk shit about Jin and you get people getting offended and telling me to fuck off. Sad af

You're being disingenuous. Do people complain about Naoe? Last I checked, she isn't some sort of beauty queen.

It's also funny how hypocritical you are. Nobody said a damn thing about Spider-Man and his spandex suit hugging his body to accentuate his perfectly-chiseled musculature and ass, but they lost their minds over Eve in Stellar Blade wearing a skin-tight body suit.

Laughable.
