This didnt launch with VRR? that sounds odd.

Still hoping i can pick up a crazy sale price on this over black friday. Somewhere like a supermarket

seems like a meaty update! looking forward to giving this a try. As it has been for every game this gen. You are better playing your back catalogue and picking all games up a few months after launch.

Absolutely, I rarely buy games at launch these days. A few months later means cheaper price and better content updates.

Platinum'd it. Will take a while before I want to revisit this game, but NG+ it is by then. And maybe relax a little and go from Lethal to Medium or whatever.

So this is why it hasn't been discounted yet, they're still paying for it. Will wait for a steep discount…have plenty to play atm.

So what's the best mode to use on Pro now? I've just been using the RT Pro mode.
If you have a VRR display, then just unlock the framerate with "Smoothed" to keep the high resolution. If you don't mind slightly lower resolution, then go with "Uncapped" which should be noticeably smoother to play. If no VRR, stick to RT Pro.

Why isn't this standard by now? Its a toggle addition. Infuriating as a VRR 120fps TV owner.

Anyways, results are damn good:

It's kinda wild that they added a skip option for one of the only mini games this game has.

  • Smoothed
  • Uncapped
what?
Smoothed- more stable framerate and minimal resolution drop. Hovers slightly above 60 most of the time. Likely at maximum resolution within DRS window.

Uncapped- Maximum frame rate possible (up to 120 fps) within DRS window. So likely minimum resolution within DRS window most of the time, unless a scene is CPU bound or hits 120 fps.

its like perfect locked 60fps and 30fps depending on modes, so im actually wondering what they added vrr for

Shows how badly designed they really are

Same for lighting your bonfire or cooking stuff

It's cute the first time, but having to do it everytime? They give you the option to skip them, but shouldnt even be an option considering how unfun they are

you dont have to do them every time. Most time if you camp, you will get it maybe 1 out of 5 times or more

Already finished the campaign.

Paid more to have a lesser experience.
As it's on sale
Glad it's out for the new people.

Modern gaming is cooked

I cannot WAIT to play this. I am glad I waited for all these patches though.

Sony games are known for being stable, but they still tweak little bits here and there and I am grateful.

VRR uncapped with Pro RT is the bees fuckin knees

episode 1 grandpa simpson GIF

Glad I waited. Still a lot left more to go. I'm up in the Autumn Zone and just got the spear.

Compared to pretty much any other game these days, it was released finished in a good state/performance and the differences this "huge" patch introduces are minimal.

Did you try "Smooth" vs the "Uncapped" VRR modes in this game?

Great update for sure, but I finished and deleted this long ago. I wish they would have just had this all included when it was released.

You new here? Never buy SP games on launch, wait 3 months for sale + performance improvements

It shouldn't be like that, but it is

Did you try "Smooth" vs the "Uncapped" VRR modes in this game?
I did on my Pro using the RT Pro mode.

Using my TV's built-in frame counter:

Smooth basically hangs right at 60

Uncapped jumps between 70 (action/combat) and 110 (in menus)

Both felt great, but I preferred the more consistent feel of smoothed.

Thanks! Will use smooth then. But I may go with full RT with smooth VRR at 40 fps or balanced at 60 fps. I'm curious to see what DF says about this update.

Do you have a Pro? If so, RT Pro is still the best mode (full RT + 60). RT Balanced @ 40 fps reduces resolution.

60 hours in moving into I assume the final zone. The game has been a blast. Gameplay is excellent. Exploration is also good. Reward structure is meh. The juice is very rarely worth the squeeze on exploration but it is enjoyable in and of itself. The story does get good. The issue is that for the story to be well paced you need to go after
the Oni
first. I think the game was designed with this in mind, but they wanted freedom so you can also go another route first but it clearly isn't the right choice since it creates some difficult gameplay segments and terrible pacing. The combat and upgrade system is super rewarding though. It is also a very chill game and it is fun to hang out with Atsu and just clear the map.

In the future I want them to get rid of the useless extra trinkets(even though loadouts do make them usable and fun) and give us a reward structure that can drive the awesome exploration in the game. Stealth is super powerful but doesn't feel like an efficient option towards the end game so I'd like stealth to be overhauled a bit and balanced to be just as good as direct combat. Problem is you can incorporate many of the stealth strengths into regular combat so why stealth? The game is stunning with its layered graphics and good performance. The HDR is perfectly mapped and the game is a real showcase. A flawed but consistently fun and worth entry into Sony's 1st party. A better plot with better characters than it appears at first glance, but perhaps a bit too safe compared to Tsushima to really take the ball and run with it. With all the stuff about the main VA/character model, the Atsu character herself is actually done very well and the game never felt woke in any way, and her VA was also really good.

It is what it is guys. I'd call it shit if it was shit. It ain't bad.

There's definitely a preferred or optimal sequence.
