Ghost of Yotei dev details technical leap on PS5 (can now load millions of assets)

Sucker Punch: the power of the PS5 made it possible to create our dream PS4 game.

Sucker Punch: the power of the PS5 made it possible to create our dream PS4 game.
Remember the old days when devs had the talent to make great looking games on aging hardware? Now it seems they need expensive new hardware just to make decent looking games these days. What happened?

If you use PS4 as a base to develop your game (even if it runs poorly there), you can make PS5 run it like a dream and put alot of functions on top of it.

and it still looks like a ps4 game damn

Twice the frames, larger draw distance, way more assets, and it actually looks better. If you think you're going to get more advancements than that with these cheap boxes, keep dreaming. The PS6 will be a small jump over the PS5 too, btw. Moore's law is dead.

I swear GAF is the the directi opposite of Era.
In Era there is this stupid fake overly positive filter they see everything through. If you played insomniac Spiderman games you know what i sm talking about.

Here its the opposite. People will target a few games and shit on them with every chance.

Take a fucking chill pill.

Agreed. So many bad faith, low effort, drive by posts in this thread alone.

We all saw this 'generation leap'.

I feel like I'm missing something. Yotei is a clear graphical step over Tsushima:

Is it some huge, jaw dropping step up? No, but what recent sequel has been? The only one that even comes to mind is Death Stranding 2? I never dug into comparisons, but I did hear people say that game looked amazing.

This seems like noticeable improvements for a studio that had the same budget and project timeline. Whether the game will be any good or not, I make no bets. But it looks like it will be pleasant to look at. I'll check it out on Steam when it eventually gets there.

But GoT is PS4 game and GoY is PS5 game. Devs have 5x better GPU, 4-5x better CPU, 2x more memory and ~100x faster internal storage.

Game doesn't look much better, they are under utilizing PS5 hardware.

So a few sliders pushed up. Tsushima looked lacking even back on ps4 release. I made my oppinion known back then on here if I could ever find it.

It's a little telling that the art director is the one they chose to preach about the big technical upgrades.

Remember when Infamous SS was a visuals beast? SP had some real good tech at the time. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that all that's leftist are glorified modders.

they clearly dont have a technical director. In his absence, the only thing the team could do was increase the foliage setting from PC medium to PC high. That surprisingly took 5 years because they were pretending to work from home this whole time.
