Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Beta Thread of key begging

You're gonna have to talk with your buddies about the lack of TDM and spawn camping. The friends I had who were interested have lost interest completely. The game simply isn't fun when you can't leave your spawn and the majority of gamers want to play TDM. By making those two choices you almost guarantee this game to be a flop. (I personally prefer OBJ game play, but if you're gonna change Ghost Recon to make money anyway, why would you not include TDM?)

It would be a shame for this game to wind up another game that's simply good for coop and nothing more.

I don't believe that the lack of a TDM gametype send this game to its grave, I remember devs mentioning TDM previously that there is a variant but like all game times they will throw in objects. So maybe they will boost your teams abilities or something when taken but there will be a gametype that will go based on kill count and then teamwork for ties.

Any chance of them doing a press statement after beta ends here Wednesday on what will be changed up for the launch? Mainly, do they have a fix in place for the server issues.

The netcode between beta and release versions has been improved, I know that much - I will forward your request to the ComDev though, because I think it's a good one. I'll let you know what the word is.

If you do, could we please also get a clarification if the game will have a match browser like GRAW and GRAW2 had. Also, will we be able to fully customize game rules (points, time, equipment limitations, Hud elements) and also be able to browse those?

Cause honestly, if this game only allows for random matchmakings I'm skipping it. No matter how much I like the gameplay, this would be a dealbreaker for me.

If they allready announced something in this regard, feel free to ignore this request.

The whole teamwork action points should be scrapped. I don't get why you're complaining about it in Sabo though; the team that sets the bomb off will pretty much win regardless of how many teamwork action points the losing team gets... which is how it should be.

Because in Sabo, people are more likely to just ignore the objective altogether and throw sensors all over the place to get teamwork point kills. Some teams even grab the bomb and run back to their spawn with it to leave it there and just continue with the individual point system. The sensors and UAVs completely killing the flow of the game by stifling team spawns and giving crazy advantages is another issue entirely.

I don't really agree with you. Giving more incentive to not play the objective seems like a really bad adjustment to make. If you want to give "action points" for killing someone close to the objective then I'm OK with that but rewarding people for any kill? No way. That will just tilt the match more in favor of spawn camping lol
It's already in favor of spawn camping. Either to keep people away from the objectives in conflict, or to win a game with "teamwork" points by constantly sensoring and then killing them as they try to leave spawn.

Zlatko, got a "this is a good idea" and they'll definitely be doing it. I don't know if it will be on the official Ubi forums or not, but I would wager it's there.

The team that ignores the single objective in sabo will lose before they can accumulate enough team points to offset a successful bomb plant. I have never even seen it get remotely close and that includes some long tdm-like matches with engineers on both sides.

So, who's going to miss the GR:FS beta? And who's actually now planning to pick the game up on release, thanks to the beta?

Personally, the beta won me over, purely with its solid gameplay foundations. I really enjoy how it controls and dig the overall aesthetic sensibility of the game - animation, camera shakes, vantages points, etc.

Main gripe: when there's lag, it's usually severely crippling. If they clean up the netcode and allow for a region filter of sorts, I'll be a happy chappy.

As far as game balance and whatnot goes, I see the flaws, but I don't think I care as much as a lot of you. That's not to say that your complaints don't have merit, because they certainly do, but I usually end up finding something that works for me (Rifleman :D) and have fun with it.

What say you, Ghost Recon Gaf?

I'm still day 1, but I don't see a community lasting if the spawn camping issues and lag are not addressed.

It happened on Mill too, only they could shoot you at spawn.

Lame. Didn't cop that myself, luckily.

Sidenote:

The AN-94 is considerably shitter than the AK200, right? It's not just me, is it? Are most people of the opinion that both faction's starting rifles are a bit too awesome?

I for one enjoyed my time with the Beta. I had a great time when working with others, but I got to say, if the final game doesn't offer full match customization for unranked matches (or even ranked matches) that allow explosives and sensors/uavs to be turned off, I will stick to campaign and Guerilla Mode.

I simply find all the gimmicks they've thrown into the game to get in the way of the otherwise amazing gameplay. So if we're able to turn off UAVs, sensors and explosives, the game could become an amazing Ghost REcon experience, even in a competitive sense.

I'm allready trying to remobilize my old GRAW2 team, but most of them seem to have left XBL, so I hope to find some crack tactical Xbox players here on GAF to play with.

They need to fix the damn voice chat glitching out on the PS3 version. Not one game has it worked fine with my buddies. Either they hear me and i don't hear them, or I hear them, but they don't hear me and so on.

Other than that, I really like what I'm playing. Still need to get the quirks of the game down, and find better weapon combinations. Still, I'm most likely going to scoop this up with my buddies so we can run through the campaign and competitive modes.

Guys, how is the PS3 performance? Screentearing? Framerate drops?

PS3 version runs solid other than some glitches from the Beta.

So what's the good word? Overall, this game a keeper or what?

Competent, objective-minded teams on both ends + little lag = great time.

+ unique and satisfying controls/mechanics
+ gunplay is generally good
+ gun customization is radballs
+ graphics are nothing flash, but the animations are lovely
+ there's a big emphasis on team-oriented actions, e.g. merely being in the vicinity of the objective when it's being interacted with nets quite a lot of points and significantly speeds up the arm/disarm process

It's fun and I can definitely see myself putting some decent hours into the MP but there are problems, i.e. netcode issues/lag and easily facilitated spawn camping.

So what's the good word? Overall, this game a keeper or what?

+ Controls well. Running, diving, taking cover feels pretty good
+ Decent competitive game modes. Conflict is a nice twist and pretty fun. Sabo is pretty standard.
+ Nice gun modifications. It really makes a big difference
+ Excellent core gameplay. The bare bones of this game is great; it's team oriented and a lot of fun.
+ Gun range is awesome. It's nice to be able to see how your mods affect a gun with no loading (similar to how NHL has their instant skating) Wish it was fleshed out a bit more but it is good as is.

= OK matchmaking. It's hard to judge this because (hopefully) the code here isn't completely final. I hit laggy matches about 1 in 8 so overall the experience was decent. One of the problems is squads can hold 4 players which means sometimes you'll match into a game and your team will have a squad of 4 and a squad of 6. On one hand, I can see the rationale behind this because if you start the match with 4 players on one team it wouldn't be fun to be 3+1 but I'd rather have it split 2+2 and have incoming players fill the squad rather than get fucked over.
= Host migration. On that note, host migration is TERRIBLE. It's nice that it exists at all but host migration essentially picks a new host, then restarts the match with the current time remaining and score. It doesn't matter what the objective was, everything just resets. It's not good.
= Graphics. They're decent enough. I didn't experience the framerate problems that other people had (360). There were some occasional slowdowns but nothing major.

- Terrible map design. Not just the layout itself although most of the maps seem like they're going to be small very small. The objective placement is not very good and some sides have major advantages.
- Very easy to spawn camp. Even against an opponent that almost seems evenly matched, it's easy to push their shit in.
- Class balance. It's just not very good.
- Unlock system. It's one of the most unbalanced I've ever encountered. Pouring time into this game gives you a huge advantage. Not just the class EQUIPMENT but putting a ton of mods on your weapons gives you a distinct advantage over someone who doesn't.
- Decision points. This is part of the unlock system but it basically has an RPG element to it. At the end of the day what it means is artificially lengthening the game, unbalancing it, and reducing your choice DURING matches. I hate it.
- Melee. It's on the X button, contextual, and extremely clunky. In general once you get within 3 ft of someone the gameplay does not feel great IMO
- I don't really care for some of the weird mechanics like instantly snapping to ADS. Movement speed doesn't make a big enough difference.
- Gun balance between factions. Needs major, major, major retooling. Guns are different on both sides and some factions (especially early on) have a distinct advantage.. not good.
- UI. In game HUD doesn't look that good IMO. Outside the UI is very inefficient. You have 60s between matches to allocate your points and it just isn't enough time to work your way through the carousel menus. It doesn't help that your unlocks are different between factions.
- There isn't a lot of hand holding as far as explaining the game. After a lot of hours of playing I still don't completely understand some of the objectives which is not good. These things should be spelled out and clear. I'd consider myself a pretty decent gamer so casuals are probably going to be completely lost on objectives like HVT.
- Lag. I know I said that it was a rare thing for me but holy shit when it happens the game is COMPLETELY unplayable. It's really bad. Some people have complained about it happening more frequently to them as well. I don't know if matchmaking in final will end up being local but anything would help.
- Lack of customization options for game modes. I thought this was GRAW. From what I've read it's going to be standard fanfare which is disappointing because customizing modes into a barebones type of game would've been a LOT of fun.

New updates pushed:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/673239-Multiplayer-Beta-May-3rd-Update

Weapon Changes:
  • Adjusted aim sensitivity to improve consistency
  • Reduced the ability to quick scope from cover.
  • Reduced the maximum count of rounds in the Stun Gun to 6.

Equipment Changes:
  • Flash Bulb has been re-tuned, making it easier to aim but reducing the overall effect.
  • EMP Grenade blast radius has been increased.
  • Sensor Grenade detection range has been decreased.

Other Changes:
  • Melee has been adjusted to improve its usability on crouched or prone enemies.

Also,

+ gun customization is radballs

This is my new favorite thing.

Got an engineer to level 4, and had a great time using the UAV, directing teammates around and alerting them to approaching baddies. Favourite moment was buzzing the HVT, getting him to break cover to shoot at my UAV, therefore opening himself up to eat a bullet.

UAV is awesome when you have a mic and people have headsets. Not so awesome when people don't have headsets though

I can't remember any PS3 games looking this bad.

I know it's MP and still in beta but still... It's manly hairy ass ugly.

From what I understand, code is pretty close to final. They're only doing balance stuff for the most part with the beta so if you don't like how the game looks/runs....

The objective in saboteur is not easy to do. I've seen tons of games where neither team is even remotely worried about trying to arm that thing. obviously you keep an eye on it and kill anyone who makes a dash for it, but that's not difficult. In the end it essentially becomes a sensor-filled TDM.

My experience has been different than yours. Anecdote vs anecdote. Not much else I can say so I'll just leave it at that.

The side-roll-to-prone maneuver is so rad.

I'd been getting "dominated" by a particular player on Mill - sure, he was definitely decent, but the majority of his kills against me were either dregs, camping or simply 'wrong place at the wrong time' unluckiness.

Determined to put an end to this farce of a situation, I ran from spawn seeking vengeance (with the objective at the forefront of my mind, of course C:) and was shot briefly before ducking behind the cover of a lodge. Nearly expired, I thought to myself, "it's now or never; there's no way this fucker is going to see this coming". I double-backed, rolled back out, took aim and nailed him in his stupid prone face.

Feltsogoodman.

What consoles are you guys playing on?

Regardless, I can assure you that the beta is months old and the code is not final. People are still at Red Storm and Ubi Paris working their butts off.

Sorry I was just going off what Tommy Jacob said

The game is now "done and dusted as to what's on the disc", Jacob added, but Ubisoft Red Storm will work throughout the beta period on tweaking settings for the final version. "It's the first time we'll be getting such a wave of feedback on how things are tuned, how the weapons are tuned. These are things we can fix."

Hes just creative director of the MP mode though so he probably has no idea what's going on coding-wise.

Yeah, I can assure you that changes have been made, from the tweaks you've seen to the netcode improvements you haven't and on down the list.

He still looks like Billy Mitchell to me, even when I saw him in person. I didn't get a chance to tell him that though.

You should! Because up until recently his office was outfitted with a King of Kong poster.

We tend to think he looks like Jesus.

Yeah, Ryan (former employee there) is a friend of mine. He told me the Jesus thing before and when I told him the Billy Mitchell thing he thought it was funny as hell. I told Kimi too before she left RS.

I may have even met you briefly in August during the playtest at Red Storm, but well since I don't know exactly who you are/what you look like I wouldn't know. ;)
