Holy shit, this email from the guy's wife on her impressions of the guys was fucking great. Had me laughing alone in the kitchen eating Mint Oreos at 1 in the morning. Especially Jeff's bitterness about her dislike of him. Fucking hell. Email hall of fame right there.

How does Raiden not recognise Solidus as the former president of the United States.

Also from the last episode is this right:

The Patriots stole Ray from the first tanker and then sent a second tanker which was the one Snake was on to sink and cover up with the Plant. But Ocelot stole Ray from them which they didn't plan for.

He almost certainly didn't dress like a cyberpunk octapus wearing a trench coat when he was in office. I probably wouldn't be able to tell him apart from any of the other dozen or so old dudes that Raiden's met on Big Shell.

Watching the UPF where Vinny played Second Life. The character creator portion was incredible hahahaha

edit: Ohhh myyy the dancing hahahahahahahahhahaa THE TOTORO hahahahaha! the dancing warthog oh shit i cant' stop laughing
I prefer whiskey, preferably neat.

I'd say Makers is my favorite, it has a good bite.
You sound like me (just picked up a bottle of Maker's last weekend), though I love beer and cider and wine and gin. Tequila rum and vodka will do too.

Actually the new arcade bar has an 8% dry cider I'm pretty excited to try this weekend. Can't wait to play some Ms. Pacman again. Haven't since California Extreme.

Watching the story in MGS2 for the first time in over a decade and I think I agree with people who say Kojima made some of the story bad on purpose. The Rose stuff is terrible which Raiden comments on repeatedly about how inappropriate it is to talk about during a mission, which Drew and Dan have commented on. After that long and confusing info dump with the president Otacon basically says yeah this doesn't make any sense lets work it out later.

Superbunnyhop in his video on mgs2 makes the argument that the games two parts are designed to show two different approaches to a Metal Gear sequel with the tanker giving players what they want and the plant deliberately frustrating and annoying them and he may be right.

Ohhhhh man. The next MGS episode (after 11) starts right after the torture scene. I CAN'T WAIT.

What makes you say that? Did Dan post it was somewhere? The next episode looks kinda long from qlcrew, but I feel Drew would have to be booking it to get through
the fight with Vamp, escorting Emma, and hearing all of her crazy conversations about the GW AI, and escorting her some more, and having to protect her from a sniper's position...just seems like that torture part would be at least 2 more episodes away.

He said so on the Bombcast :)

The Beastie Boys are the first hip hop group in years to have something to say
Going by qlcrew since Dan joined this is the number of quick looks each member has been in (unless I miscounted)

Dan 93
Jeff 77
Brad 63
Drew 36
Jason 6

Wow that's a lot for dan. I'm not complaining though.

They gotta get Jason up to double digits. Hopefully we'll see more of him in the new year.

Dan basically is Giant Bomb's video content nowadays. Good thing I find him entertaining.

What are the total number of QLs? Dan's 93 has to be a high percentage of the total.

Yeah and it doesn't include all the MGS and demo derbies he has done. I was surprised he has been in twice as many qls with Jeff as he has with Drew, I guess I just remember the Drew ones more.

Kojima knew exactly what he was doing. Whether you liked what he was doing (which I did) is another story entirely.

Well he's certainly been thrown in the deep end.

Dan Rykert is pretty much modern giant bomb, and MVP in terms of site content and reasons to visit Giant Bomb.

If there was an employee of the month award he'd been on a streak from since he walked into the office.

If anything he's made me realise how the other guys need to step it up to compete with him. He's even brought out the best in Drew.

It works in large part because he plays well with just about any other GB member. I wish there were more Dan/Alex content because Alex is a good straight man in that duo.

if you want to talk about "thrown in the deep end," watch some Drew content from 2012-early 2013. Being on podcasts/radio/video/etc is friggin hard to get comfortable with, and most of GB has been doing it for a decade. The leap he's made from being kind of timid to just completely rocking it is super impressive. Dan/Drew/Jason GBMVPs of 2014.

Jason got dumped in on their crazy setup and within a week was owning it.

2015 better mean more Vinny content though or I'm gonna be sad.

The third member of GBE is the 2015 wildcard!

Drew talks about getting used to being on the podcast and videos in this hour long interview he did last year as well as working at EA, getting hired at GB and other things.

Drew for MVP of this year for sure. Dude had to step it up after Vinny left for the East and you can totally feel how much his skills have grown this year.

Dan and Drew are the Treyarch of Giant Bomb.

Anyway, I watched the end of Metal Gear Solid 2 just to jog my memory and get myself ready for the end of Metal Gear Scanlon 2, and holy shit

holy shit

holy shit you guys

I forgot how God damn great (?) it is.

Alexis has barely been at Twitch a couple weeks and he's already added their version of Embiggen mode. Dude works fast.

Also, I've been out of the loop for about three weeks thanks to work (would have to coincide with Vinny Week... ) - any content I need to catch up on? Both GB (obviously MGS) and gaming in general? Wasn't there a Sony thing and Geoff's thing? Either worth watching?

Vodka red bull is the devil.
That's a weird way to spell "nectar of the gods." Because it is seriously the best.

Yeah, Dan's been a great addition to the site. Helps give it a boost of zany and enthusiasm it's needed.

Though how strange must it feel, I sometimes wonder, for Dan to lurk and read such effusive praise and dissection of his contributions for work?

well if he ever needs to counterbalance it he can just go to that one dude's GB tumblr account because nowadays it's about 75% complaining about Dan.

Well, there's also plenty of people calling him an idiot, and rightfully so. Even he knows that.

Homeboy ate hot dogs out of a fucking shoebox.

Feel like there's a good Riddick game tucked within a weird COD2 mod and it's all called Wolfenstein: TNO. It's a good game, but the first third or so are pretty meh and the last 3rd or so becomes way too shooty shooty and less interesting since you've also pretty much gotten all the perks you're interested in.
