New Giant Bomb people incoming already? Fuuuuck. Awesome.
I don't think Patrick has the personality to draw in enough supporters to go the independent route.
I wouldn't be shocked if he took a job in the industry itself if he was leaving.

I sometimes think Jeff is in an unusual position as being an "older" video games writer. I wish for you to stay around as long as possible, but the industry doesn't seem to allow people to do that. Have you thought about what you would want to do if you had/wanted to change careers? Possibly a real life spelunker? What ever it is please try to write in your free time. Thanks.
The idea of changing careers entirely sounds terrifying. I suppose its possible, but cant tell you how one would pull it off. Lateral moves make more sense to me. Helping curate a label within a publisher focused on independent games? Sure.

Also, freelance budget? Interesting considering Jeff's frequent past comments on article traffic (remember the Skylanders experiment?).
The thing he's always ranted about?
Is be surprised if he leaves if his own volition. Giantbomb gives him a lot of flexibility and jobs in the games press isn't exactly booming right now.
Oh yeah, it's could well be Tina, couldn't it? That'd be nice.
damn I never thought about the possibility of Patrick leaving
Hell, he even talked about it on Tumblr earlier this week
Hmm I don't... What was that?
Who's Tina?
Unless he gets an offer he can't refuse, I highly doubt Patrick is leaving any time soon. He's been hyping the adopted CAH studio for ages and the dude has it really good at GB - he basically does what ever he wants and doesn't seem forced to churn out content.
Sorry, I meant Tina Amini, from Kotaku. She lives in New York, appeared on GBEast's Mario Kart x Hentai stream with Cara, and clearly has a good relationship with Vinny and Alex all ready.

But not gonna lie, part of me kinda wants to see them hire another white dude just to watch a certain arrogant part of the internet lose its shit.

Wow, the holiday sale must have went well for them if they're already hiring - didn't Jeff mention not too long ago new hires wouldn't happen soon?
Really curious who they're going to hire as a senior reporter on the east coast. If Tina Amini applied she'd probably be a shoe-in. In a perfect world, Jeff would convince CBSi they aren't in any rush and give their lawyers 6 months to try and get Cara through the visa process.

When and where did they say they were hiring? and for which office?
The Japanese thing really makes it sound like something aimed at Kotaku people (read: Tina). I assume everyone at a site called Kotaku knows Japanese.
This year's been so great for GB. Granted this hire won't be finished before next year, but still, just seeing it being advertised is really exciting.
Jeff has talked about a freelance budget for almost a year now. Wants to use it carefully, but he has been interested in doing something like that for a good while.
Japanese language skills are a plus, but not a requirement.
Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Veterans/Disabled CBS Interactive, a division of CBS Corporation, is the premier online content network for information and entertainment. Knowledge of the Japanese language (written and spoken)
This part of the text is a bit weird though
Really? I totally missed that. Mercenary articles seem like such an odd fit for the site. It's like the polar opposite of GB - impersonal and non-video.
Though seriously, they're too specific to not have someone already in mind.
They should hire Dan's dad.
if it isn't cara, i hope it's because of a choice on her end because she is perfect for that position. She can write well, has the discipline stuff nailed and demostrates it with her patreon work, is interesting, funny, intelligent, and watches pornographic anime. She's just a month of WWE network away from possibly being the best hire the site has done since about 5-6 months ago.
I think it's also telling that they didn't publicly announce the opening. They likely have to openly list it, but the fact that they're keeping things on the down low makes me agree that they have someone clearly in mind.
I'd also bet that it's going to be a woman. Cara or Tina are both pretty good guesses, I'm thinking.

It's only 8 am on the west coast. Give them time.

Wait, so John Davison brokered the Giant Bomb deal AND moved Danny across the pond (read: made Gamespot good)? Damn.My miserable experience with corporates tells me not to get my hopes up. Danny has mentioned a few times John Davison pushed hard (and was in a senior position) to get him across the pond before he left - and that had the benefit of being an intercompany transfer.
Listening to the podcast finally, I can't believe Brad actually put out that fucking line of "It would be good if Bayo 2 was out to a wider audience." I'm really glad the rest of the crew jumped on that to point out that it was solely because of Nintendo that the game exists.
I think I just dislike Brad. His humor and timing is often really perfect, but he just rubs me the wrong way a lot of the time.
Any word on new MGS this week? On hold with everyone in the office?
How long was it last time between when the listing went up and we knew (officially) Dan/Jason were hired?

I agree with him on that point though.
No denying that the game wouldn't exist without Nintendo and that there's nothing wrong for them to have exclusive games just like every other 1st party.
That doesn't change the fact that the WiiU sales have been terrible since its launch and that it's too bad that an excellent game won't be experienced by a wider audience because it is exclusive to the less populated platform.
Dude is fucking legit, but he just can't stay still.
Yeah, he clearly didn't mean "FUCK NINTENDO!" with that comment. It IS a shame that it's just on the Wii U, but of course Nintendo deserves all the credit for making it happen.
