Second episode reiterates concepts from the pilot. You get a couple fun episodes with hooks for the broad story. It kicks off at the mid season break, ep 8 or 9. Then the remaining episodes have a larger focus on that main plot. It's how all these network shows go down.

I think it gets better. I don't like the show as much as some other people seem to, but it's enjoyable.

I just finished I am Setsuna. Brad's issues didn't bother me that much. All piano BGM seems appropriate and I didn't miss anything bigger, game seems small enough that it's appropriate. And the towns and dungeons are varied enough that I didn't mind being stuck in the snow. Ending was kinda meh for me but the combat is really fun once you get into how complex it is.

Yeah, and they had no realistic chance of getting solid western third party support anyway, so they might as well go their own usual quirky ways. As a fan of handheld gaming on non-phones, I'm intrigued by this development.

Technically true, but if the TV dongle allows for extra features not on the handheld unit (like multiple controllers), I think it's fair to call that a hybrid.
