Giant Bomb #9 | More Dan Meets The Eye

Double Fine is a good fit for Gang Beasts. Hopefully this helps Gang Beasts develop a bit quicker, I need a version with reliable gamepad support stat :v

I'm actually surprised that stuff hasn't blown up more then it has, the internet usually loves to run with this kind of garbage, especially with those Kotaku implications.

Probably for the best, and this thread is maybe no the best place to discuss it.

Concerted effort to bury it

But yeah...

Anyway is the powerbombcast worth it for someone who doesn't follow wrestling and has no interest in it?

Probably not, it's mostly wrestling talk and you'll probably be lost if you don't follow wrestling. There's some stuff that could still be interesting (the talk on racism in wrestling last episode, for example) but I most likely wouldn't be listening if I didn't kind of follow WWE.

It's just wrestling talk. They don't go off-topic for 40 minutes talking about food. Now, if you're okay with that, then they do a pretty good job explaining the stories they talk about, but if you don't know basic things like wrestling terminology then it's just going to be frustrating.

Look that zoe quinn stuff is so fucking personal and i don't think we should be discussing it at all.

It's absolutely relevant, they have no problem discussing personal things like depression or online harassment, and when there's an actual problem (sleeping around with games press) or in Max Temkin's case rape... RAPE! no one cares. Suddenly the voice of the oppressed Patrick Klepek is nowhere to be found.

It'd be ok if these were nobodies, but these are people who are part of Giantbomb through guest appearances and content, and no one is talking about it.

Dan and Jason gets hired, and people are shouting about hiring discrimination. Rape accusations, nothing, sleeping with games press, nothing.

It is not relevant to this thread....like in the slightest.

This Zoe stuff is national enquirer level grossness. Peoples sex lives are none of our business. Game industry people know eachother, and guess what? They have sex like the rest of us. Her morality should not be a concern of this thread. She has been in a handful of GB content. That does not make her a "part of giant bomb"

but these are people who are part of Giantbomb

We discussed Max' situation here and in another thread. I'm not sure what more you wanted out of that.

As for Zoe's case, this is absolutely not the place to discuss that. The quoted part is where you're wrong, she has absolutely zero to do with GB in the context of something this serious and personal.

I'm not saying it shouldn't get discussed, I personally don't care either way, but I would rather it happened elsewhere (as in, not in this thread). An Emcee statement would be appreciated right about now.

The only part of the Zoe post that might be relevant to gaming news is her relationship with the Kotaku writer, and apparently that happened before he was hired by Kotaku (though he was working with RPS). And the theory about the wizardchan raid being fake sounds like tinfoil hat stuff

But yeah, it is being discussed in the few pockets of the internet where a) people know who Zoe is and b) it's allowed to be discussed. So, 4chan mostly.

I have no idea why you would expect Patrick to touch that mess though.

The Kotaku stuff is the only part of the Zoe Quinn mess I would feel conferable discussing. It is another shitty story about the state of the video games press. I bet the greater GAF audience would eat it up.

But at some point maybe someone should bite the bullet on making a thread on it instead of people in here feeling uncomfortable about talking about it.

But on the plus side. A video game industry sex scandal. Thats a first.

Did he write about any of her stuff? Did he review her game? If not then why would it matter? (he may have, i have no idea)

great now im talking about it after i just said it's stupid to talk about it in this thread....#potkettle

I guess if I was hosting a panel or a podcast with someone accused of rape or infidelity Id want to be quiet about it too.

On the other hand Im bummed about 30 day trial ending. Is the powerbombcast worth it for people who have no interest in wrestling?

There's no unlocked thread for a reason and it's not a video games press story. None of our business.

I have never watched wrestling and I eagerly listen to it. It's a fascinating mess, from a proper distance. Kind of like cable news punditry. I expect it to be the next topic of an Aaron Sorkin drama

I think the reactions to Max's and Zoe's situations and GB's new hires depict an industry that wants to be enlightened, but often gets too caught up with personal business. Personal business that has very little to do with games.

It's very easy for people to use events like these as a springboard to discuss other topics. The Kotaku thing is a great example of that, but there's no evidence Quinn received favorable coverage because of her actions. It seems that some people want to use the Quinn situation as evidence that there's a lack of ethics in games coverage when there's little to support it when it comes to sites like Kotaku, GB, Polygon, etc.

With that said, I think there's some merit to the notion that the industry needs to be more mindful of who's saying what. There could be an argument made from what we unfortunately know now (through the airing of dirty laundry) that writers can't just trust one source. They need to verify claims because sometimes those claims could possibly be used as a means to promote an image.

I don't listen to it because I worry it would make me watch wrestling (although i did watch part of summerslam last night...shit)

I was out of wrestling and PBC got me back in. The One Piece QL also got me to read OP again and I'm pretty close to resubbing to WoW. I think this site is bad for me.

I never cared about pro wrestling outside of a morbid curiosity and don't know much beyond surface level pop culture stuff and it's an entertaining listen. Good group dynamic featuring enthusiastic Dan and curmudgeon Jeff, wrestling storylines are pretty ridiculous. Also I know some of the people in this WWE iOS card game now because of it, guess they are teaching me something.

I've been listening to it since the beginning. I like listening to the guys get really excited (positively or negatively) about wrestling, even if I don't follow it. Jeff is just as Jeff here, so that can be worth the price of admission.

Lets not give the mods a reason to lock this thread.

Given Emcee's post a while back, for some reason we're already frowned upon.

Thanks for replying about my question about the powerbomcast, i maybe give it a shot since it seems pretty fun and i know a little about the WWE.

Wow, what post was that and what context? What the fuck did we do?
Anyway let's stop discussing the zoe quinn stuff. Even tough it has some potential for highlighting lacks of ethics in the gaming press it's all mixed up in some highly personal stuff from a third party that may not be reliable at all, also we have zero proof of wrongdoing so in the end it's just nasty rumours.

I doubt any mods would lock the thread. Maybe move it. Have you seem some of the shit in "community" and "off topic"?

I don't really have any desire to discuss this Zoe thing but to say it should be excluded from a thread that talked about mustard for 3 whole pages is a bit rich. As long as people stay civil and reasonable I don't think anything should be off limits.

If this thread is going to start discussing the private lives of periodic guests then I'm bailing, because fuck that. It's the fucking grossest.

Worth quoting given similarities to the Max Temkin situation, from when this was posted:
are we doing this thing again where we post tweets, blogs, and articles that are kind of tangentially related to giant bomb purely to say "wow look how crazy and dumb this person is"

Edit: damn it EmCee, you're too fast for us mobile peeps.

I think it would line up with the way other stuff is handled. Given that the RedLetterMedia thread is in OT Community, I kinda don't understand why stuff like this thread and the Steam thread are in vanilla Gaming.

The RLM thread is kinda strange, but as long as there's new content regulary most threads seem safe from the Community ghetto. The Super Best Friends thread is a LOT worse than this one when it comes to OT, it's almost 90% anime and other OT stuff. The Game Grumps thread is still in the Gaming forum, to give you another example.

Oh man, Gang Beasts is such a perfect fit for a Double Fine Presents game.

Another WoW video and Blizzard's now upgrading accounts to Pandaria for free...getting harder and harder to resist the urge.

I just finished up a 10-day trial I was doing to get it out of my system (haven't touched the game in a few years, haven't played it "seriously" since before frigging BC came out). The trial ended, I got The Itch, and then an hour later they announced Pandaria being free...... must resist. If only because I know I'll just burn out again after two months.

I hope dat Double Fine money means Boneloaf will fly out to SF at some point. They'd probably love to meet the Giant Bomb guys as they got a fair bit of Greenlight exposure early on from them. Put them on UPF, it'll be like going full circle.

When was the first time Gang Beasts showed up on UPF?

I was with out a sub for like a year, but just reupped because of Dan.
