No because it made ME3 a question on how good the player was with cover based shooters and removed any usefulness to play anything other character classes besides soldier. You could ignore all upgrades because your character was powerful enough to beat anything in the game from the start, assuming you personally had the reflexes.

ME2 played that way for me too.

Honestly the biggest impression I've got out of ME2 is that it's one of the most basic TPS I have ever played, where everything was just a corridor you run down to take cover and shoot.

Giant Bomb streams attempt to test how many times consecutively I'm able to listen to a song I pretty much dislike. Luckily I've lost count, so the dance continues.

Yep. Mass Effect 2 ruined Mass Effect's combat in addition to everything else it did terribly. That game were bad.

Speaking as a person who considers Mass Effect 1 is their favorite game of all time (and it's not a contest), Mass Effect 2 does have superior combat.

But Mass Effect 3 has the best combat in the series.

Yeah ME1 did have some issues that ME2 ironed out while ME2 introduced new problems that weren't there in ME1.

Then ME3 took all of those problems and combined them into one huge shithole of a game.

ME1 certainly was a shooter. Having shitty tacked on RPG mechanics and bad enemy design doesn't change that.

I had a lot of fun with the ME2 combat, and ME3 improved on it a ton as well. ME3 honestly has some of the best feeling shooting and enemy design in a TPS that I've played.
