It baffles me that anything less than 110% frothing at the mouth is seen as jaded or cynical. Like, to the people shitposting - the critique was that they wanted more information. they're on your side, if anything.
Why is it so important to people to be spoonfed a certain level of hype that falls in line with their bias? It sounds exhausting to need validation that frequently.
Exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth.
Here's the thing - I'm in my late 20s and I've seen my fair share of video game related content over the years. It's difficult (but not impossible) for me to recapture that excitement, and exuberance I once had when I was say, 17. A lot of younger viewers out there are conditioned by streamers, and YouTubers who go completely overboard when it comes to product impressions.
"OMG GUYS, YOU WON'T BELIEVE HOW AMAZING THIS IS. IT'S... IT'S... I CAN'T EVEN DESCRIBE TO YOU HOW PERFECT THIS IS. WOW, I AM BLOWN AWAY."
Throw in a custom YouTube thumbnail of some kid clenching his fists and screaming in an excited manner, and there you go. A lot of empty hyperbole.
The GB crew are older than me, and they've been working in the industry for years! It's all about perspective. As someone who has been following these guys for a decade it was obvious that they enjoyed quite a bit of what they saw. I mean, pretty much everyone except Dan dislikes, or is tired of God of War, yet they were all noticeably impressed during that reveal. Some of the reveals piqued their interest, some didn't. What more do you people want?
Not just that, but obviously when you're younger everything is fresh, novel, and you're more easily impressed. Then you have fans of any age who are so engrossed and attached to their hobby that if someone isn't visibly freaking out over whatever it is they're freaking out about, they're considered "jaded" and disinterested. Like you said, I think one of the main reasons is people feel like they need to be validated
all of the time. It's a big reason I stay away from comment sections on reviews because you have people fighting tooth and nail over a subjective, numerical score. Hell, people freak out and flip their shit at people's top 10 games of the year.
