Dishonored's biggest weakness is its aesthetic. Steampunk/whalepunk/whatever is very overwrought. Some people love it but it also repels its share of people, too. I'm talking about the entire genre, not just Dishonored.

This makes me wish Alex won that argument. Orb son is truly beautiful.
Dishonored, for a game in a genre about experimentation, is oddly judgmental about how you play. 2 has a graph at the end of each level to show you what contributed to your current chaos level, which at first seemed neat but eventually started feeling more like it was marking you down for not being pure stealth even if getting spotted once or twice is a negligible thing that only stops you ftom getting a perfect checkmark. On the bright side, it gives you more powers that aren't only good for murder, unlike the first game.I only got maybe a third of the way through Dishonored, but I thought the world they built was great. I'm just not that into stealth games.
I don't recall having any issues with Mass Effect 2 on PC. Mass Effect 1, however, was all kinds of messed up.
Seriously. The only reason I want a remaster is just to be able to have all that DLC in one easy to get package.
Yep. I would consider buying an Xbone to replay this trilogy ahead of playing them on PC for this reason and for proper gamepad support. (Actually are the DLC supported on Xbone?)
Welcome to the great Alex Nintendo betrayal of 2014.Another annoying thing that kept happening was Alex bringing up games that he was ready to fall on sword and eliminate when there were like 2-3 other people who liked it more than him and immediately chimed in to fight it. I swear it happened like 4-5 times in different categories.
I think it was confirmed Alex hadn't.No Best Moment nomination for Last Guardian is a little sad but I'm guessing no one finished it in time.
Was a bit surprised Dishonored 2 wasn't even up for discussion on the top 10. I'm not a huge fan of it, only played about 50% of the missions before i dropped it, but i thought it was quite popular. Did they play it?
Weirdest thing for me was not a single mention of Final Fantasy XV or The Last Guardian.
I've been playing through XV all week and I think it's one of the best games of the year. I think not having someone like Patrick or Austin on staff really limits what can be nominated for things. Little bit dissappinting.
Vinny playing Google Earth VR is amazing.
It's like you can physically feel his vertigo just watching him
He really sells it. I would love to try it so much.

Yeah Mei was robbed of top 3

Man, I gotta give credit to Dan during this GOTY discussion:
Him bringing up dropping UC4 might be the best argument of the podcast so far. It 100% makes more sense to have three games that individual members of the crew are passionate about than having one game that everyone feels good about.
Also just remembered they gave Winston some shit. Winston is amazing when you use him right. His my number two most played. My top 3 would be Mei, Winston, and Zenyatta.
Did Hitman win? This thread is hard to follow.
This Best Overwatch Character discussion is great.
And yeah. Tracer is terrible. I love her design but every time she talks is like nails on a chalkboard in a room of someone who is about 4 years behind on memes.
Oh and Mei is the devil.
I know it will never happen, but I wish Jeff would remove himself from reviewing. I really enjoy him as part of the podcast, but his approach to games is like a child that's a picky eater. His ability to like games so often lies in their being restricted to a precious few genres and the way he will outright dismiss certain games is a disservice to the whole audience. I really liked Austin as the anti-Jeff but he's gone.
I feel like they would have been better served leaving Thumper and Stardew out of the top 10. The concept of "the site's list" is better interpreted by me to be a more consensus list. I get that a lot of people liked Stardew, but the farming sim is still a pretty niche genre and it didn't click with any of the other hosts. Same with Thumper. On the other hand, there's so much precedent for this in the discussion, why bother.

You mean to say Jeff has certain genres he likes and dislikes?
Preposterous.
Remove him from giving any opinions on videogames ever again.
Well, he also sort of plays that up for effect. His actual reviews are always much more nuanced than that (and well written). I mean, can you point out any specific reviews of his in the last couple of years that are actually dismissive in the way you're describing?
The nature of Giant Bomb also means he can primarily review games he already has some interest in (historically or currently), too. I sincerely doubt he would ever review, say, Red Dead Redemption 2 for the site.
Jeff has earned the unique position of being one of the most knowledgeable and experienced games critics working. I find his perspective far more valuable than someone with less experience who happens to share my tastes. Austin is amazing, but I don't think he is the anti-Jeff and he's not really gone, dude is already putting together something awesome over at Waypoint.
I base it purely off the way he talks about games on the podcast. Unless it's a fighting game, an FPS or some 16-bit game that he loves, his response his generally, "yeah, I played that game for an hour and never came back," or he didn't like it at all. He's always the guy who looks at the list and says he doesn't feel strongly about any of the games. His mind seems very closed and he never seems to see what might be fun, interesting or different about a game that doesn't perfectly meet his criteria for a good game.
Stardew in the Top Ten was cool because I love that game but I wish they hadn't just taken Invisible Inc precendent as sufficient. Make Dan do the work, I actually would've liked to have him wax poetical and just really go after it.
