Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Brad's hesitation to act has always been hilarious because it gets him in trouble more than it helps. Dan typically acts with such disregard, outside of the Sheik moment, he dies quickly and anti-climatically. Vinny has the right mix of impulsive decision making and a little bit of self preservation that results in gold almost every time he plays.

Which is why Vinny was the best coach for the Brad LPs. He knows when to help and when to pressure Brad into taking risks.

I want to play superhot but it's damn expensive for what is allegedly(?) 2-3 hours of content.
I've put 9 hours into it and have only played half the post-game content. If you're only getting 2 hours out of Superhot, the problem doesn't lay with the game.

OK, parts of the DD interface are simplistic. The rolodex of heroes isn't very cool. There are moments I'm trying to compare stats or equipment between heroes and it feels very clunky. But best style isn't best UI.

The art is gorgeous, and while it might crib too heavily from Mike Mignola's house style, it's unlike any other game. Dark inky borders draped over surprisingly colorful characters and background. The feel of DD is gloomy, but the art pops with a vibrant palette. The Leper is that guy from Kingdom of Heaven, but I love him. Every pig monster is beautifully repulsive. The forest map feels like a Grim Fairy tale that's been poisoned. It's very pretty game with a cohesive, striking art style.

Turn based is as clinical as game combat gets, but Darkest Dungeon makes it feel visceral (apologies for the use of visceral.) Critical hits are highlighted with a dramatic camera zoom and a violent shake of the screen. Special attacks have cool animations that continue the visual trend of splashing color all over the darkness. The characters talk shit to their enemies. It was cool when Dante did it, and it's cool when the highwayman does it.

And of course, the narration. Darkest Dungeon has the best narration in gaming. Wayne June nails his performance. The narration perfectly captures the overwhelming despair, the elation of battle, the fatalist humor of a dead man directing other men to their own deaths. It's funny, it's scary, it makes you feel like a total bad ass, and there is nothing else like it.

Darkest Dungeon oozes with style. Red Hook makes some very out there decisions regarding the visuals and the audio but they bring it together confidently. The result is world that feels unique and authentic Darkest Dungeon absolutely deserves to be recognized for style.

A match is lit! A blazing star is born!

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I truly don't understand the criteria for Best Style this year.

It's nebulous and really just an award for 'artistic merit' beyond mere visual prowess. That can also mean how effective the aesthetic design rolled into the gameplay itself or if a game just has a striking tone without being the best visually. Basically an award for games they just found looked cool as fuck without the tech talk mucking up the debate. At least my interpretation...

Really glad Alex stuck to this game in the end. The game really is striking in delivering a unique style top to bottom, and perfectly fits that reward category.

Catching up on content. Really loved this special edition of Game Tapes, I watched the GS E3 documentary a long time ago but with the dudes being there and sharing stories is what made it awesome.

Vinny's Hitman run was magical as it has been known already.

Titanfall 2 and Overwatch are both fantastic multiplayer games. I've put far more time into Overwatch but I think Titanfall will be higher on my personal list.

Yeah, sometimes they make the game seem way more complicated than it actually is. I was really surprised when I first played the game at how easy it was to escape tricky situations after watching them play the game all year long.

I can't remember if they've ever tried it or if IOI told them when they were over there, but someone needs to show them that if you get caught trespassing you can just let a guard walk you out conflict free. Would probably blow minds.

Yeah, it's been such a great year for games with styleeeeee. Dankest Dungeon even made me get a few Wayne June audiobooks. Got a little burnt out with it, though, as I played quite a lot of the early access version. After beating the
ancestor
I didn't go back to it. Has there been other post-release content? I remember them saying that they were going to add a new class as well make some balance changes.

Moral is don't play early access versions.

It's more like doing things together rather than skits this time around which I think is better because that means there is more content to consume. They may return to skits next year so, who knows.(I welcome both ideas)
Well we're kinda getting skits within the content. It all shakes out.

Also Best Style really should be called "Most consistent aesthetic".

Vampire themed expansion early 2017. Not much known except vampires that look like Marie Antoinette crossed with a mosquito.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I think he's played more games than anyone else this year.

I just enjoyed all the sub categories and how specific some were. Obviously a few were jokes like the Rez Infinite one but it gives a better sense of not only the games he's played and enjoys but is a far more interesting list than "I like these ten games a lot". Nothing wrong with those kinds of lists either but they are pretty straight forward for the most part.

Anyone knows what time the Day Two Deliberations comes out? I know that on the site it says 05:00 PM but I can't find out which zone (I´m on GMT)

Hitmas was the first time I've seen the new Hitman game and Vinny's run was great. A tad too much back seat driving from Brad and Dan though.

Also, its already been said but should be repeated - Alex was the hero of Day 1

What category?

Please stop 'using Detective Hunter Vision?'

I bought the game over black friday and started in survival mode with minimal HUD and it feels like I need to use the hunter vision to pick out most stuff

I don't really have any (inherent, before playing it) interest in playing that stuff though. I just want to play the cool campaign stuff that's being talked about. So it's still a bit on the expensive side for me... I should probably just grab it the next time it's on sale after this, I guess.

Also: major props to Alex for his arguments during Hottest Mess. That was definitely a tough conversation to have but it was good to hear someone point out just how fucked that all was.

Alex is the hero we need. Looking forward to what weight he can throw around in the coming week. Especially after how he pushed hard for the right Hottest Mess of 2016.

I agree with these. I actually stopped watching after Vinny Caravella played because it was getting on my nerves the back-seat gaming, especially from Ryckert.

Watching the Hitman thing now. Fucking Vinny. Just throw any openworld/sandbox game at him and he turns it into pure gold.

That's fine, I just get annoyed when people say "It's only two hours long!" like there's nothing else to do. Hitman can be beat in 5 or 6 hours if you ignore it's optional content too, but you'd be laughed out of the room if you complained about it's length.

wow 4 competitive categories today...

edit: zero overwatch characters in the initial "best character" list? They better have their own category!
