Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Ok, let's not turn into nasty people eh?

You are right, I shouldn't diss his intellect. What I could say though is that he gives up too quickly, even when he doesn't he always has hard time relaying his argument. He also shuts himself off against any game he doesn't like.

I don't think Dan has the necessary knowledge and intelligence to debate over anything or anyone. Especially not against Alex.
It's not that he doesn't have the knowledge, dans a smart guy, he just doesn't fight for his game more than " I liked it because it was good"

He's just not experienced enough to get down and dirty to pull all the tricks and gas lighting and contradictory arguments like brad. And it's not his personality to just bully and bulldozer his opinion over others like Jeff.

Those guys have been doing this for at least a decade

I really enjoy the VR video they did because it kind of illustrates what I have enjoyed most about VR in its current state: showing it to your friends and letting them try out different games and experiences.

I had 0 interest in VR before watching Vinny do it. Now I want one.

At this rate, is Uncharted 4 even going to crack the top 10? That there was so much consternation about it even in Best Graphics says a lot about that game's chances. So glad that Trico got a placement in best character over BT. (Though where was Popplio?)

I'm getting real fucking hype for that best music category, last years was excellent thanks to a bunch of samples for each nominee. Hopefully it's a little tighter this year and a bit more prepared, but even if not, it's good exposure for dope music. I just hope everything gets a fair shake and they don't just play the DOOM soundtrack for the entirety of the segment. Not that DOOM has a bad soundtrack -- it'll probably win and I'm okay with that, it's just I'm a little sick of hearing about DOOM this early in the precedings, it's prominence in Best style/looking/new character catagories is souring my good will for it in these deliberations going forward.

Man I wish a few of them had played Dead and Buried for Oculus to put it in contention for best VR experience. It is one of if not the best vr games I have played but for whatever reason they haven't touched it afaik. Hasn't been in a rodeo or UPF or anything yet. Hopefully they take a look at it once they get back.

I don't think many of them played Bloodborne at the time, right? Uncharted 4 is different.

It was on Brad, Jason and Dan's personal 10 (Jeff had it at 11) but none of them really put up much a fight. Think the same thing will happen with Uncharted 4 because "well it's another Uncharted."

I think this year just won't really end up being as entertaining as the last couple of years because they don't have Austin to go against the consensus in a really thought out and passionate way, and there aren't any games Brad is really up in arms about like Destiny and DOTA that the rest are totally opposed to. Only person I can see bringing any real arguments to the table this year is Alex.

Lmao this is so true

We at least haven't had anything as bad as Austin's Fallout 4 defence yet though.

GB lost a fuckload when Austin left. Not only did he provide a very different perspective compared to the rest of the crew, he had the skills to argue his position that a lot of the crew lacked

He bullied hipster opinions in a lot though because of it. I'm not sure that it's skill so much as a strong desire to overtalk to the point of exhaustion of anyone else. Like, there's no point arguing any of this stuff with Austin because he's going to dig in and try to throw a thesaurus at a game like Invisible Inc (a fine game) and try to make it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread, or try to make something sound more 'important' than it is which makes arguing against it a lot harder because you come off as insensitive to whatever larger than life attribute he's giving this title. I feel like I sound insensitive just saying THAT even, but it's how I felt a lot when he would talk about some highly flawed game that he just happened to latch on to, giving it an importance that it doesn't feel like it has and ignoring all of the deep flaws in a lot of games, especially ones that nobody else put any significant time into, is a really easy way to have your way with a discussion like this. Fallout 4 was the perfect example of ascribing so much high level importance to something that really was not, and at the end of the day the argument simply has to be "No, it's not fun and it doesn't do anything other games haven't done before" but that sounds so much less grand than what he is saying that it comes off as weak in counter. You would have to make the obvious, simple, retort into something just as overblown and insane to properly do it.

Like, Austin would've gotten Stardew valley on when Dan would not if it had been him that was the only one that really played it, but I think it would be because he would argue so many aspects of the game beyond what they actually were and talk up every part of it as if it were some profound and amazing piece of work, which nobody could argue because nobody else played it, where Dan took the "Oh you guys say it seems a lot like Harvest moon so I'll trust that you're right" measured approach, which I think is a lot more tenable to these kinds of proceedings.

I liked Austin a LOT in the videos and most of the podcasts wtih the GBeast crew, he'll always be there in my heart, but I strongly feel he hurt GOTY last year. I'd way rather watch him play Chickenhorse for hours.

I started playing Hitman last night. Made it to Ep 3. Holy shit, it's fun. Once I'm done with the story, will check out all the other modes.

Doom should win goty in my opinion, but I have noticed Jeff pointing out the things he disliked about it a bit more than usual, maybe in preparation to push Titanfall 2 at the last minute. Glad
Inside
won best visuals, it is definitely in my top best looking games I have ever played. Loved the atmosphere.

Edit: Most disappointing should have been
Final Fantasy XV

Jeff saying he wanted the Doom marine to not just destroy everything in that game and was frustrated that he couldn't choose to listen to Samuel Hayden really seemed odd to me. That would go against everything they were going for with that game.

I think Jeff will make a push to get Titanfall 2 above Overwatch.

I think he would have an ally in Brad, though with Alex, Dan, Vinny, Jason and to a lesser extent Drew preferring Overwatch, it should be an uphill battle.

Hmm I hope Planet Coaster's soundtrack is mentioned for best music because it's so good. It doesn't have to win but I hope they give it a fair go and listen to a track from it.
But I think Vinny is the only one that played it?

Is Alex's theme song for Chief Beef considered to be part of the Planet Coaster soundtrack?

Most of the crew like Overwatch more than Titanfall 2. Not even Jeff can go up against that. I feel Overwatch will be second unless the crew decides to make Hitman second instead.

I can agree that, while interesting to listen too, Austins rants about some games moved him hurt the discussion because you really can't argue against that and he is also the type of guy to mesmerize some stuff regardless of quality or intent. He has a very active imagination that is super interesting to hear about but when choosing the best game totally detracts from the conversation.

I miss Austin a lot but it wasn't for GOTY podcasts.

Edit: Also, Titanfall is going to be higher than Overwatch, Jeff with Brad will make sure of that.

I think what I miss most about Austin and Patrick's innvolvement in GOTY is they talk about games the rest of the crew didn't play or know about. A bit disappointed Waypoint isn't doing a traditional GOTY list this year. It's some yearbook thing and I'm not even sure what that's all about.

Yea, watch them use that against uncharted 4 while gears 4 gets in unopposed when that series was stale halfway through the first game. Thankfully, like Bloodborne, I'm not personally invested so I can just enjoy the carnage. I'm still excited that a non-Metal Gear stealth game like hitman is going to be high up on a giant bomb goty list.

I don't honestly care what ends up on GOTY list this year either. Alot of great games this year. As long as some shitty game doesn't end up there, I'm cool with it.

Agreed. I'm glad Alex has at least mentioned TLG and Tokyo Mirage Sessions

Its funny listening to Brad and Jeff talk about Uncharted 4. Its not Best 'brand new game with fresh ideas and never before seen art' Looking Game is it. Uncharted 4 is a phenomenal looking game. I got bored with it fairly early on but its what it looks like that matters here and boy does it look really good. If I never play another Uncharted game I would be fine but if one comes and it looks better than this one I will say the same thing again.
