Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

Wow, just got around to listening to the podcast and Jeff trying to put his foot down against Inside is the most awkward fucking moment in the history of Giant Bomb. How is it possible for one person to be so lacking in self awareness...

Like, that straight up exposed him as seeing everyone there as his employees and that he thinks his opinion is more important than theirs.

"I think the rest of the room is against you."

"Yes, but I don't like it."

It did seem fairly awkward, but to be fair to Jeff, I think he made a better argument against Inside than anyone did for it. Inside got in the top three because so many people around the room wanted it to be there, which is fair enough, but The Witness won the category because the actual argument made for it was so strong. I just wish the points made in favour of Inside were stronger, because, having played and rather liked it, I don't see what it's doing in the Top Three best moments of the year either.

Agreed, but Inside handled it in a more clever manner than any of those and more. But I am with you in thinking there is a fervor and overreaction to that moment that isn't really earned. Jeff is way too harsh on it, but I keep thinking the Internet is totally nuts for putting it on the lofty pedestal It has.

I don't know if it was more cleverly handled, but it was more interesting. The moment was unexpected for sure, but in hindsight it was kind of a random twist that felt a bit like a twist for the sake of it. It was a moment that was memorable not because it was profound or particularly engaging, just because it was so out of left field. The more I think about it the more I feel like the game is just smoke and mirrors. I wasn't a fan of the gameplay at all and while the atmosphere is great and the game is full of surprising moments, I didn't come away from it feeling particularly special. I guess I was kind of like jeff in that I thought "ok then I guess" and then moved on.

Great material for our GB fanfiction.

In my fanfiction the tension between Boss and Employees gets really bad until Brad decides to finally just lean over and kiss Jeff like he's been wanting too this whole time and then the tension melts away as everyone realizes that the battle was never between Inside and Titanfall 2 but always between Jeff's struggle to accept Brad's love.

;_; lik if u cry evrytime

there's no way Dan doesn't force Stardew into the top 10.

I mean, Stardew is a top 10 game so...

Of course we are, even if Jeff didn't ultimately get his way you could still see the fear in their eyes as he said "Fuck Inside".

there's no way Dan doesn't force Stardew into the top 10.

Both of these will happen. Stardew Valley at #10 and Inside rounding out the top 5. I don't think Jeff can veto Inside out of the top 5 unless he kind of forces the team to pick between Overwatch and Inside. I think Jeff's main goal is getting Titanfall 2 into the top 3.

Top 3 is Doom, Hitman, and Overwatch (in that order probably) there is no way Titanfall 2 makes it's way into that trio but it'd be interesting to see if Jeff can get it up there. I see it getting #4 though.

At no point did I ever perceive Jeff as being about to use the "I'm your boss" card.

he doesn't have to.
if someone like Alex, Dan or Brad liked a game a lot but nobody else did he will eventually say "i really liked it but i have no support so i'm taking it off" when there's still 10+ games on the list, if Jeff liked something a lot it will either get top 3 or will be debated for a while. i mean he almost pushed out Inside and the whole room was against it.

Holiday Specialtacular 2016: Rockin' Around
We couldn't let the holidays go by without a little caroling.

I'm not really watching the videos and I didn't think they were worth the effort, but these gifs proved me wrong.

I also hope that tons of new people will find Giant Bomb because of them.

While I do edit them here and there, they're overall worth it if you want to get a reaction out of everyone by whatever is being said. I happen to edit+gif them mostly because they were my favorite moments and for those who don't watch the videos but may want to dip into it them for abit.

Of course we are, even if Jeff didn't ultimately get his way you could still see the fear in their eyes as he said "Fuck Inside".

It was an odd moment where I thought 'If this weren't being discussed in view of the audience, Inside wouldn't be on the list.' I fucking love Titanfall 2 and haven't touched Inside, so I'm with him. But, getting all pissy when you are clearly the minority opinion in the room was just awkward. On the other hand, I get that they've been locked in a room for hours upon hours, and after so long you start to lose it a bit.

Yeah, but they also gave Kerbal #4 when only Vinny really played it. The possibilities are endless!

Drew's number 1 game didn't get on the list one year because he and nobody else wanted to keep arguing with Brad about the game that they all actively wanted off the list because it was a mess.

Listening to Brad be all hohum on Uncharted 4 makes me wonder if the Brad of today would strong arm Uncharted 2 to victory over Batman: AA like he did way back in 2009.

And jeez I've been listening to Giant Bomb podcasts for a long time.
Uncharted 2 still felt fresh and new and was outstanding where 4 is technically the 5th uncharted game and does nothing new. It feels more like Last of Us: Uncharted with a weird piped in brother story which doesn't make sense considering in all the books released, comics, 4 other games and all the lore out there never mentions a brother once and actually contradicts some of 3. I think it's a good game but not GOTY where as Uncharted 2 was absolutely a GOTY.

Seriously? Alex or Dan sure, but Brad certainly has no issue holding out if it's a game he really cares about regardless of what the majority thinks.

It was Wolfenstein and it was lame how that played out. He wasn't even the only one who liked it.

I dunno why, but I feel bad for Jason in these deliberations. He just seems like the low guy on the totem pole and nobody values his opinion.

Actually his number 1 games the past two years haven't been on the list at all.
For the same reason that Mario Maker won.
Caring passionately about a game outranks numerous people liking but not being as passionate about a game.
Dan Ryckert is no Jeff Gerstmann.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far, but I was definitely hoping Hyper Light Drifter would get something. He sounded so defeated every time it came off the list. There is still hope for today though!

He's a pushover compared to the other guys. I think Drew has gotten better in these debates in the past few years altho he also doesn't fight too hard for his picks either.

I really wish all other major sites where this open with the process of GOTY.

It really highlights how petty and slapdash the process can get. Aint no magic fair and balanced and logical system.

I know, and I've always felt it was the secret worst injustice of all the GOTY casts. It was a game a good number of them at least had liked and nobody had any arguments against it IIRC, but Drew was just quiet about how much he liked it while Brad basically argued that he was entitled to having Destiny on the list even if everyone else was cold on the game.

(Then Brad went and wrote his list and put Dota 2 above Destiny)

As entertaining as the awards are, I really hope the new hire(s) will bring new perspectives to the table any that they can challenge Jeff & Brad in the deliberations.

Please. The knife throwing was lame according to Brad. Worst game of the year confirmed.

Both him and Drew never seem super involved because I think they either end up playing more niche games that no one else cares about and/or don't have the time to pick up and play all of the popular games that end up on the list. Vinny sometimes falls into that group, but the games he picks out he loves and will usually defend to the death. I mean, listening to him talk about Virginia has me excited to play it, even if the rest of the crew didn't care for it or even play it.

yea, it was nice to see EZA do it this year.

Yeah. I listned to bits of that. And I totally disagree with their picks and some feel totally fanboy-ish and silly but at least they showed how the sausage was made.

Would love to see how sites that normally pick a GOTY that seems out of place and controversial and see how that pick was made. Like Polygon normally picks some touchy feely indie game like Gone Home that gets people pissy when they announce it because its touchy and feeling and indie. I want to hear the actual debate that got it there.

I guess that depends on Brad and Vinny.

I think they'd need Austin to help back them up, but well...he's making fanfic at Waypoint so that's out. I feel like DS3 was pretty much forgotten as it hasn't been included in really any of their discussions. Not even a weird nod for Hottest Mess for when the PC version was broken.

Maybe it'll finally get a mention during GotY talks?

I highly doubt Dark Souls 3 is going to make the top ten.

I mean, Stardew is a top 10 game so...

"It's either me or Inside! Pick one, Brad!"

Brad's Choice. Straight to DVD.

3. Overwatch
4. Titanfall 2
