I know I'm a day late to this discussion, but how the hell did Street Fighter V not even get mentioned for the music? I don't think it should have won, but the music in V is really, really great.

Let me just say that I really liked Doom a lot, and it was a surprise considering I was outright expecting a disaster straight up until the game came out.

I just started playing Hitman last night and I'm pretty sure this has already knocked Doom out of its place on my personal GOTY list.

Hyper Light Drifter feels like a game that probably sneaked onto the top 10 when shit was getting cut out versus anyone actually fighting for it.


That is a totally "meh. its fine" game.

I wasn't really a fan of it at launch, but I guess it's been patched to fix a bunch of my issues, but the bigger surprise is how little they seemed to really care about it prior to today except for Jason. I'm pretty surprised it's one of their top ten.

It's impressive how all of the top 3 could've and probably should've been total disasters instead of GOTY contenders/winners. You had:

-Hitman = questionable last minute change to a weird season model, last game was underwhelming
-Doom = just the remnants of Id, no Carmack, originally a CoD4 clone, shitty multiplayer, no review copies
-Overwatch = multiplayer remnant of a cancelled MMO that was being worked on for ages, could've easily been shat out to recoup costs or made into a total Team Fortres clone

In terms of games this year, it was pretty much a year of miracles.

Hitman's true magic isnt when you first play. Its that in 6 months you will still be coming back to it.


And I honestly think you miss out a little by buying all the content now vrs experiencing the slow roll out episodically. Having a level to play with for a month was great. Its the best example of a episodic game yet.

I'll take this Overwatch category discussion as an opportunity to say that you don't have to be shitty to people about stuff you dislike. Overwatch isn't my thing and this whole character discussion is meaningless to me, but I'm glad people like it as much as they do. You could be spending your time punching puppies or doing meth or something. Liking a harmless video game is as inoffensive as it comes.
