Giant Bomb GoTY 2016- Agent 47, take out that Doom Marine

I laughed hard at this one too. I gotta fix this for the hilarity, though!

JASON: Big surprise.

JEFF: This seems in line with everything you've ever said about Overwatch. You're like "Yeah Soldier 76!" and I'm like 'of course...'

DAN: I played like 12 hours of Soldier 76!

BRAD: I think you're just proving the point....

Best back and forth.

Haha Worst Game takes 19 minutes.

I haven't read the list, but this year it seems like an easy list to put together, with number 1 proabably being
No Man's Sky or Box Maker

Superman's got nothing on Mei. She's only one wall away.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Quite a shame FFXV came out so late cuz whether you like the game or not, the OST is pretty amazing. Wish they played it before the deliberations.

FFXV has strong tracks, but the few you hear the -most- in game are kind of terrible(camp theme, town theme, etc...)

That said, I am not sure if Furi deserved it against some of the other choices either.

daw, i liked all those tracks. They're super relaxing.

The other day I was Mei but buffed with both an armor pack and Sym's shield generator, and even after eating a sleep dart, biotic grenade, discord orb, and multiple bursts from a S76 at close range I still had ~100HP and was able to blizzard the Ana, S76, and Zenyatta. The 76 ragequit.

I really hope the crew does time stamps themselves next year. If you're going to upload like 20 hours of podcasts the least you can do is give it some time stamps so folks can manage what they're actually interested in

Brad will never ever bother, sadly

"It's just pretty piano music"

Brad fought hard for it, iirc.

Dan killed it last year

Dan is the true Hitman

Because it's true that Giant Bomb has really leaned hard into chiptuney hard-edged soundtracks over the years, to the detriment of orchestral and other types of soundtracks.

At least 2016 had way less of that, and the big one there was was at least done by Disasterpeace.

Best Music always favors chip tunes and electronic music.

It sucks but thats the way it is.

WHAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA was better music to Dan and Ori's tracks weren't as interesting.

The real travesty was Jeff's dismissal of Undertale's music as "just chiptunes."

Just rechecked and Splatoon won Best music over Ori. I can sort of get behind that also and I didn't play the game outside the campaign much. That music was also really effective and kind of perfect for that game and its tone.

But then again Ori's moody tracks were so goddamn wonderful.

Lol, why is that?

Because it's no where near as good of a game as some of the others on that list. The whole enjoyment of the game comes from watching other people fuck up and attempt to work their way out of situations. Not because the actual stealth mechanics are any good. That's not to say it's a bad game, it's just not a game I would look back as something that stood out in any way shape or form. Other games on that list have had much more impact or executed on their ideas much better than the number one choice.

RE save rooms have relaxing tracks, those in FFXV...I just mute or get my shit done fast and go back to playing superior FF music in the mp3 item.

I'm sorry. It's really good though.

I think it also gets hit for not actually doing that much new, just a lot of stuff bigger. I think the blueprint stuff is the most significant new feature and WHO CARES. Everything else is just a mix of cool stuff from the first two games, plus the showcase events that desperately need a rethink. Australia is a pretty neat setting, though.

I also feel like certain genres just never get a ton of respect for GOTY, and racing is absolutely in that list.

Plus, just to go back to the PC version for a second: when one of the big things about the genre is extremely responsive controls and split-second timing, and you completely ruin that by putting out a PC port with wildly erratic performance and stuttering, you have RUINED YOUR GAME. I legit don't understand why the Forza Horizon 3 stuff doesn't get nearly the outrage Arkham Knight got for its PC port.

It's sort of the same as the Mario Maker argument last year. They were able to choose it because their experience with it differed slightly from that of most people due to their involvement with both each other and the community at large.

Can anyone tell me if there are
The Last Guardian
spoilers in the GOTY discussion?

edit: Also, are there timestamps yet? I just want to watch the GOTY discussion as long as the above answer is "No".

Since there are a ton of Overwatch players in here, is it still worth playing on PC if I haven't really played since the beta? I really enjoyed my time with it, but got distracted by other stuff. I kind of figured the skill level would too high at this point to make jumping back in worthwhile.

Yeah which were provided by someone else. I really don't see how difficult it is to just make a note of when a category starts while recording. Why make other people do it for you?

Because any edits (including to the front) make just taking notes as you record impossible.

If you don't intend to re-listen to everything again, then notes are difficult.

there's so many players that you'll get matched up with equally bad/new players easily.

Trust me, there are millions of players who still don't really know how to play.

Youll be paired up with other noobs so picking it up now isnt a detriment at all. Its really fun and all the content is free*, definitely worth a buy

*you can buy boxes, but you can earn those a plenty in game

I had a great time with it when I played it, so I don't mean to make it sound as if it's a bad game. I just had a lot more fun watching them play it and fuck up then playing it myself. On the other hand, the other games on that list held my attention and in some cases really surprised me.

Edit: For example, my GOTY choice would be Overwatch. A game I don't own and only played during the beta. I had a blast and do intend to purchase it, I just prioritized other games ahead of it. Inspite of that, I have to recognize what it has gone on to achieve. It has created a community that has attracted millions of dedicated fans. Mechanically speaking, Blizzard manage to develope a well balanced hero based first-person shooter that has sublime gameplay. Stylistically, the game has tons of personality as can be seen in how attached people are to individual heroes. At the end of the year, Overwatch is going to be the game people play for years to come. I don't think any other game released this year can claim to have made the impact it has. I think that makes it a clear GOTY, no matter what your personal preferences are.

Play it. Start with Soldier. Gradually learn more complex characters.

Makes sense. It's actually my first Forza game (unless you count that F&F freebie) so it's still pretty fresh for me.

That's kind of shit to hear about the PC version. I played on the Xbox so I never had any of the control problems.

There aren't any complex edits happening here. They should be able to easily take into account any edits that effect timestamp information. The reason is they just don't want to bother which is fine but disappointing. Each year I'm closer to not renewing my premium sub

Yeah, I put maybe 20-30 hours into Forza Horizon 3 on PC and would probably still be playing it if the stuttering and frame drops weren't so prominent.

If that game were smooth I would play it allllll the time. But they'll probably never fix it, which is a real shame!
