Did every "season" of the Bombcast have its own promotional/fan-made art? I haven't followed it from the start but I remember the rainbow one, the cop drama and now the murder mystery.

Yes, but I don't think it was fan-made. The Bombcast art is done by the same artist who drew the review pictures and the site achievement art. I believe it was a woman who worked/works for Whiskey. What will happen to that art post-split?

They've changed it several times but the "season 3" thing was a joke and one Jeff regretted quickly because everyone kept asking where season 4 was.

They needed to pick a higher number to make it more obviously a joke, like how in their GOTY video intros it says 53 years of continual excellence. I bet if they get new art it won't mention a "season."

So...finally got to watch the Gerstmann / Davison talk and I'm feeling pretty damn positive about the whole Giantbomb-Gamespot collab.

Truthfully, I'm feeling kindof warm at the thought that this might lead to a 1Up.com 2.0 sortof thang...

Jeff seems really positive about it. It's great to see.

As far as I know the cop drama and murder mystery ones were done by this lady:

As for the rainbow one. I think it was a stock image design with the GB cartoons put over it. I dunno who did the original cartoons.

Ha! Well, that fooled me good. I thought every year was a season or something.

Thanks for the answer. :)

This may warrant its own thread but, in any case, I might as well put it here: the This Year Collection has released its Top 40 The HotSpot moments show as voted on by the listeners. The HotSpot was GameSpot's podcast, one of the first gaming podcasts out there -- perhaps even the first, though I'm not sure on that -- starring host Rich Gallup (now of 38 Studios) along with his radio cowboys Jeff Gerstmann, Alex Navarro, Vinny Caravella, Ryan Davis, Carrie Gouskos, and Bob Colayco. Most of those guys are now working nearby (though not for) GameSpot.

The first incarnation ran until 2007 when Jeff was fired and the most of the long-time GameSpot editors quit to eventually join Giant Bomb. This show collects the Top 40 moments from that three year period.

Here's the direct MP3 link (2 hours long), the RSS feed, and the original blog post.

Is this a new Hot Spot compilation? Because I'm currently going through the 2 part Hotspot compilation from "This year" at work. Is that "new" material?

I'll be very curious to see how long this week's Bombcast is.

If it's less than 2 hours, I'll be worried.

I really don't see how the length of the Bombcast would reflect either positively or negatively on the situation. It's not like CBS has strict podcast length rules they will enforce.

They had plenty of sub-two hour Bombcasts back when they weren't working for the Man.

It's more a worry of CBSi saying: "Hey new guys, we need this recording room for lots of other things too, you can't schedule it for more than 2 hours so we can fit everything we need to in."

I'm not worried about it.

"It's time for emails, brought to you by the good people at KFC"
Funny thing is. They could maintain the usual bombcast structure and be bombarding you with subliminal advertising and you would't even know it. Remember that 30-60 minute segment about pizza places?

"Hey Vinny, what did you do this weekend?"

"I watched tons of NCAA basketball only on CBS (and affiliated networks)."

"And boy, my refrigerator sure is a mess. You'd need a CSI team to figure out where some of the stuff in there came from."

"Oh Jeff. You're such a joker. Surely a Mentalist like you knows what everything is."

"Vinny, you should get a racing-wheel... and a delicious Boneless Banquet"

Oh, I'm not worried about the actual content. I'm more worried if they'll have to share Gamespot's studio for recording podcasts. Access to that may be time-limited.

I was thinking about that this morning. I don't know when the gamespot guys record their podcast (never actually listend to hotspot since GB exists) but the Bomb guys used to always record the bombcast at the end of the day (leaving the office around 7-8pm) so my guess is that it's probably free around that time at gamespot.

The only thing I'm really hoping for this week is a TNT, even if they have to do it from Dave's house. That'll be business as usual.

Jeff already said that he has to talk with the GS crew so they can record 3 hour podcasts. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

30 episoded in on the Persona:ER and I don't know how I haven't watched this before. I would totally play Persona if it had a rifftrax of Vinny and Jeff.

I love how the tone of the ER starts to shift from goofy as hell to being seriously invested in the story later on.

The ER was genius because it was the perfect half-step between the podcast and the rest of the content on their site. And as someone who only listened to the podcast before the ER, it's pretty much 100% responsible for drawing me into the rest of their stuff.

What amazes me the most about the ER is that they produced over 100 hours of content with it.

Consider that the average TV show gets a syndication deal at 5 seasons. For an hour-long drama, that means that it will produce around 70 hours of content before it will be sold to other networks and aired ad nauseum.

To get to 100 hours, a show would have to make about 143 episodes. That's just shy of 7 full seasons.

The reason they don't want to do an ER nowadays, beyond the lack of an obvious game to do it for (although, come on, Xenoblade guys), is because they don't want to spend an hour a day filming it. But- here's the thing- if they just kept it to half an hour max per episode, like they originally were doing, there would be no trouble! :P

They tended to film multiple episodes in a single day, so they'd shoot for like 3 hours.

Also, a lot of games don't have natural breaks at the half-hour mark. I mean, imagine how long those grinding sessions would have lasted if there was a week of solid grinding as opposed to a couple of days.
