Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

I can understand why Alex rubs people the right way, he has that sort of douchie humor which can work among friends because they know its all just a wink and a nudge, but it doesnt really translate to people you are not close to. I also honestly think that he doesnt realize that he can come off as a bit more of a prick than he ever intended to be. I really enjoy his content and he writes well but he just doesnt seem to have the chemistry for being on video.

Patrick hate through completely blows my mind. He has clearly taken early criticism to heart and has worked on some of his flaws and has toned a bit since he was first brought on. However I think this hate started with him "being the new guy" but he has been a mainstay on GB for a while now and now its just total bullshit. The worst part is that the hate is completely out of proportion for anything he does and these people nitpick any little thing and them amplify it 100 fold to make it seem like he just committed some mortal sin..... again. A small minority of the community seriously have it in for Patrick and its totally irrational and absurd how they go out of their way to take a shit on him every chance they get. Honestly these folks need to grow up and get over it, Jeff is clear that Patrick is part of the team and he isnt going anywhere no matter how much these people scream
 
I'm watching the PAX panel and Alex needs to shut up.

He always fails to mesh with the group dynamic.

Which is a shame because I like his Bombasticas, and various other past things he's done.

Edit: I've always liked Patrick... Never had to get used to him.

I haven't watched the panel yet but is all this Patrick stuff in reference to something specific he did..?
 
I don't think it was the best idea for Patrick to go on twitter and say how much it sucks when people nag on him. It's only going to get worse the more attention he gives to the whole thing.

Not sure what he did either. I admit he can be very snarky and a know-it-all but the latter is sorta his job. He's one of the few on the team that tries different types of games (Tokyo Jungle, Monster Hunter, 999, etc) which is valuable. I wouldn't have bought Tokyo Jungle without Patrick's unabated love for it.

Dude does not come across as a know-it-all to me.. quite the opposite actually.

well it is GDC right now... maybe they can corral Jeff Green to do a bombcast, I'd sure love that.

I'm looking forward to what he thinks of Dark Souls coming off of Monster Hunter. As much as those two games get lumped together, I think there's a huge difference in the way they both control. Although it's possible I'm just so deep into the Dark Souls hole that any tiny difference feels like the world to me.
 
PAX panels are weird, it's just an hour of them playing up to the audience and somehow they talk about absolutely nothing.

I'm having a hard time articulating what I mean, you guys know what I mean, right?
 
It's odd, Alex was very comfortable and relaxed on the Screened podcast back in the day
at least when Rorie wasn't drunk/hungover
, so the way he behaves with the GB guys is kinda weird. He comes more like a fan.

At least they talk about stuff then, I think about 30 minutes of the PAX panel is spent talking about how bad Ryan feels about the breast milk, and 10 minutes of the audience screaming.

I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing, I guess it's fun if you're their and nobody's forcing me to watch it, just an observation.

I'm probably just bitter that he said EO games are about grinding but I feel like he tries too hard to make up reasons why other people might like a game or justify some design choice.

Mind you, this is hardly unique to Patrick and I appreciate he actually plays games outside his comfort zone to at least try to understand it, unlike say someone like Ryan. He seems like a pretty cool dude and is often a good counter point to the other guys even if he does say some dumb stuff.
