I thought it was funny Journey is held up as some indie game. Published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
People need to decide what these games are, because indie is really not the right word.
And I don't think it's a case of 'the internet' demanding something to be labelled, because they're the people using the term indie as something meaningful. "Oh Journey won everything!", yeah, no shit, it's amazing, but it's not any different than Ico winning something, it's just a slightly unusual game published by a major company. And it's not as if indie can be used as to mean less well known or popular, Journey is the best selling PSN game ever.
And lots of people think Sarah Palin is hot.

Overall, though, I wish they'd get bigger names. I just have such little interest in most Indie games/developers I just don't find myself interested in them as guests. I want to hear the old school guys. I want the inside-baseball stuff. People have been around. People who have SEEN things.

Indie means independent in every meaning. Not just "a studio that owns itself", but a company that operates almost entirely freely from publishers and the like.

Now that online distribution is a thing, "Do you have a publisher?" would be the easiest way to reduce the argument down to the essentials, even though it wouldn't encompass something like Bastion.
