I honestly don't think the Dandelion thing was as long as people made out. Isn't it only 6 quests or so?

Prob the weakest thing in the game but Novigrad was pretty cool.

I remember going through it pretty fast and wondering what the complaints were about, but I thought the quests were decent so maybe I just didn't notice how long it took.

The Witcher 3 fell into one of the worst trappings of video games imo. The moving target. Playing as Ciri felt like they wanted a longer game and those parts were really weak. Dandelion questline was awful.

I think awful is a bit much. It's wasn't the best part of the game but it was alright. I didn't mind going around Novigrad. Ciri parts on the other hand have been great! They provide nice change to the regular gameplay. Also they're not that common and don't last long enough to overstay their welcome.

I think this is still my favourite part of the game:

I didn't play Witcher 1 or 2 so I didn't really get the Geralt/Yennefer thing which is basically the main hook of the first act.

This 5 minute segment got me totally invested in the world, the universe, the romance, everything.

Just beautiful.

After playing only Witcher 1 and 2 all I know about Geralt and Yennefer is that they liked each other but got separated and he lost his memories

Yennefer doesn't show up in prior games at all really does she? Cos they forked the story and had it focus on Triss cos they weren't sure what the author wanted or something.

Only way I could be less interested in today's stream is if they managed to squeeze some Mario Maker on top of those other bores.

Only down side to Vinny's choice of game is that we have to rehash the Witcher 3 discussion from the end of last year.

I wonder how many people at The Coalition were dissapointed that they got taken off creating their new IP to make more Gears of War games and forever becoming the dedicated GoW studio.

I am sure some of them will be disappointed. Some points to think about are :

  • How far were they actually along with the new IP? My guess, not very.
  • They staffed up a lot since, so most of their workers were hired knowing they would be on Gears.
  • Gears makes for a pretty safe pay check, while they watch a lot of their friends at other studios getting made redundant.

The name pops up a few times and I think she's in some of the art work, but she doesn't actually appear in the game.

Yeah, her only appearance are in some illustrated flashbacks but I'm not sure if she even talked in those. All we knew is she had been Geralt's lover, was there when he "died," and was taken by the Wild Hunt.

Oh really?

The start of The Witcher 3 made me feel like I was missing out on a lot of back story there.

You were but it's all book backstory, so only vinny knows it

I was actually really impressed, Witcher 3 just kinda acts like "you should know this already" and it kinda just works

Nah, you're actually not missing out on much besides going "hey, I know that character." I haven't played W3, but I hear for the most part they do a good job of bringing you up to speed and making sure that you don't need to play 1 or 2 to know what's going on.

Edit: Oh right, I forgot about the books.

The witcher 1 had some vague references to her, Witcher 2 had some 2d animated cutscenes with her directly in it them. They were played as Geralt started regaining pieces of his memory. It doesn't really get into her character, only that she was there. To really have a full backstory on Yennefer you're going to have to read the books.

There is Yennefer backstory in the books. She and Geralt were a thing. They thought of Ciri like their daughter. Ciri and Triss thought of each other like sisters. Geralt has amnesia at the start of the first game and the romance in that game is Triss (who his 'daughter' thinks of as her sister). Awkward.

Geralt gets all his memories back by the end of the second game so he remembers Yennefer and all the things that happened before the games.

Yep, she's only been in the books. I wonder if the biggest influence on whether one sides with TeamTriss or TeamYen is if they've read the books.

That's pretty cool.

It's pretty impressive they made me understand the importance of all this without playing the games or reading the books.

Like I say, Priscilla's Song totally sells it.

W3 is also weighted heavily towards Yenn imho, especially since you don't see a lot of Triss until you get to Novigrad and even then you don't actually spend a lot of time together.

I can't remember if Triss thought Yenn was dead in W1 and 2, or just simply wanted to jump Geralt at the time and nuts to what Yenn wanted

I gave the boot to Triss because I thought her voice acting was lousy

Yenn isn't that much better really. Snob british is really annoying.

I need to finish 3. I ducked out kind of early because of how it controlled and how I tried to do every single marker on the map because that's how I play open world games.

Just about jumped out of my chair when I saw the Witcher is happening today.

It doesn't even matter which quest they're playing. They're all incredible.

I thought Triss came off pretty badly in the Witcher 3.

Spoilers for the whole series :
She knew about Geralt's relationship with Yen but doesn't tell him anything about her. She tries to romance him when she knows he wouldn't do it if he had his memories. Also the event that wiped Geralt's memory was from him riding with the Wild Hunt, which Yen did too. Yen in the game says she lost her memory, but the Emhyr's mages were able to reverse it. I wonder if Triss could've done the same if she wanted to.

Yeah, he can be a racist dick but...has anyone else in the Witcherverse done THIS? Best moment in that game.

I remember him being really salty at me because i chose to save my girlfriend from being tortured (the whole reason i travelled with him after chapter 1) instead of helping him protect some stupid kid.

If he's back in 3 i hope they let me beat the hell out of him.
I picked Roche then after I saw what happened immediately reloaded even though the save was from about 2 hours earlier.

Wish i had done that too. Maybe i would've enjoyed the game if i wasn't travelling with that asshole.

In Witcher 1, Triss very much acts like a Yennefer surrogate. She's more Yenn than Triss in terms of characterization and attitude.

I did stall around 50 hours into the Witcher 3 so I'm wondering whether to just mainline the thing and finish it off. The side quests are great but I feel I'll never finish the game if I do them all.

Oh shit, are they playing post-main story Witcher stuff today? Will it spoil the game?

Hearts of Stone doesn't tie into the main story at all (although it does some cute stuff if you play it before finishing the main quest).

EDIT: On second thought there is one quest where a major event from the story is mentioned.

Phew ok. I'm like less than an hour from the end of the game (I think), but I just keep procrastinating and not finishing it.

As long as it doesn't cover the VERY end of the game, I'm fine.

I really need to finish The Last Wish. Some incredible stories and writing in there. I, coincidentally, stopped reading on a Dandelion chapter.

I enjoy Dandelion, though. He's no Zoltan, but still.

You didn't have to romance Triss in the first game, there was the other girl. Can't remember her name, the nurse lady. I don't know if she had a later appearance or mention in 2 or 3.
