I don't know how you can read multiple posts in such threads or even take part. Often I read a single sentence and be like "Yeah, no." and leave the thread.

I.....don't know to be honest, maybe I am a subconscious masochist or something. I just feel like there is such an injustice in all those threads and I want at least one woman's voice heard so that it makes some of those users realize that not all women are the same and that they have no fucking clue how we feel about things, but then again I am probably way too naive to believe that those people would change their way of thinking even if it is possible.

Pretty much how I feel.

But yeah, it's especially frustrating when we're told that we're not "typical" women for posting on GAF.

Oh my god don't even get me started on that 'typical' woman bullfuckery.

To them, a 'typical' woman is just one that fits all their ideals that is all. It frustrates them when they are told that they are wrong by someone who actually is a woman because then their image of what women are "supposed to be" is shattered it happens in real life less than it happens on GAF which makes me happy but also scares me.

What even is a "typical" woman? It just seems like some arbitrary stuff to dismiss opinions of women who do post.

Yup.

If anyone disagrees with something I say, I wish they'd counter it and share their position - give me some food for thought and make me either defend my opinion or change it - rather than dismissing me outright. It would make for actual interesting conversations. I'm sure some other Girl Gaffers would argue against some of the things I've said, and do so eloquently. I've been reading The Beauty Myth, so that's colouring my thinking at the moment.

It sometimes feels like this thread is the only sane place in the forum. You ladies are rare and awesome.

That is a good book, I liked it a lot but it also made me feel even more oppressed for the reason of it showing me the things I already suspected.

The thing is, there is no refute for them and they know it which is why they end up just being dismissive.

It's a shame that some would rather repeat their own rather ignorant expectations and ideals and dismiss those of the women who do try to correct them or posted before, when they're the ones who actually know what they're talking about.

How are you liking The Beauty Myth?

It's good to see the topic laid out and dissected together with its cultural context - particularly the apt comparison to a religion or cult. I can see it being useful to a younger woman, helping prepare her for a world that threatens to turn her against herself and affirming that she is much more than her body.

At the same time though, some of the stats cited seem a bit shaky (sample sizes too small, dubious controls etc) and for an older woman (heck, is that what I am?) some chapters are a little like teaching your grandmother to suck eggs. At the risk of being a total snob, in a few places the essay style becomes a bit 'undergrad'.

Maybe I'm rambling though - it's almost 1am and I'm full of Cava and mince pies. Also, I'm not taking into account the original publication date, and how much more powerful it was then. How little the topic of beauty had been discussed and examined with such scrutiny.

How many GirlGaffers agreeing with you do you think it will take until BoyGaf believes you?

So many possible punchlines to this sort of joke, all of them depressing.
:D

Psssh

GirlGAF is an illusion, so the answer is clear: BoyGAF.

amg the depressingness of this is almost humourous for tis such dark humour that it is

Nah, I'm just disillusioned because there are so many boneheads out there that can't argue but will defend their point to death.

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I worried that it might be a bit dated, but there doesn't seem anything like an updated version of it.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
You know, I stop in here from time to time just to see what's happening, but there's never anything I feel the need to post about. But then I see this:

The extra fabric gives support to the penis and acts as a door for peeing as well. It can also hide the outline of dick behind clothing.

Briefs/Boxer Briefs do this. Boxers are for no support so there's more freedom for the guys.

Reportedly, I recall reading that Boxers are better for sperm growth.

The pouch at the front of briefs/boxer briefs is not meant to be a dick door.

It's made in that fashion so it can handle different sized balls and penises. If you women want to understand what I'm talking about get a pair of them and just make a fist and push into it. You'll see that since it's not sewn shut and actually moves it creates a flexible, self adjusting pouch to fit men's junk.

lol

Well, I know it's not a dick door, but I like using it like that :D

The fly is for peeing, that's why it's there. If fact, a couple of designers of men's clothing received accolades for designing newer types of flys that stay closed better while not in use and allowing easier, quicker access when in use.

There is men's underwear without a fly, I believe the idea is that they can be stuffed without being forced open and the stuffing falling out. And there are even some pairs of underwear with a pouch in front of the fly, I think so that they can be stuffed without inhibiting access.

I assumed it was all just for the ease of whipping it out when going to the bathroom.

Aren't there underwear for men that have a large pocket in the front but are essentially boxer briefs? I forget the name of them but apparently they are extremely comfortable for the D...and the B's, not sure if they have a folded hole in the front.

Me too. I lost as much weight as I could for my mom's visit (lost like 7 lbs) and promptly gained 5 lbs back at the end of her visit.

Back to the grind for me, too, looks like!

Did any of y'all make New Year resolutions?

I feel like the older I get, the less I care. I have none this year. lol.
I don't usually make resolutions, but i guess i can put getting back to my normal weight on the list. It shouldn't be too hard, i can't wait to get active again after the kid gets born.

Eyeliner is making me flip out. The lines are never solid enough when I do them and I have to wipe it off and redo it because when I try to build it up the tip dulls and makes the line thicker than I want. I think I need a teacher for this.

I suppose it depends on what look you are going for - are you using liquid liner?

I tend to use a pencil on my inner line (under the lash line) and then a pencil just above, with a cotton bud or a small brush to soften it and make it easier to make even. Also use an eyelash comb to comb through the roots of my lashes to make sure there's no liner clogging them up.

(ex- make up counter worker here, for my sins, although it's been a while since I was really *into* make up).

I'm not really trying to do anything fancy though just something like this:

This one eye kinda turned out okayish (excuse the crappy camera blur.):

I guess I don't get enough from watching youtube videos.

Yep haha. I probably gained 5lbs over the holidays. Back to the grind tomorrow morning.

Well, I only gained some tummy weight, which has always been a problem for me but I kind of was on top of it half a year ago.

It's a lot of patience, from my experience. I never used a pen but instead liquid eyeliner bottle with a felt point brush (Sephora brand). It'll take time, just keep practicing!

I think they look great! Maybe you are being too hard on yourself?

Also - New Year's resolutions:

1. be kinder to myself
2. say how I feel more instead of hiding it
3. more animals (already done this one!)
4. less GAF, more art
5. Actually socialise with real life people in the flesh more
6. Eat less meat with a view to going veggie at some point in the next few years.
7. Appreciate life in the moment a bit more. More contemplation, less rush.

There you go.

I use tape now, or just pull out my credit/bus card and create the angle. Not very clear in my avatar but I used the trick for a bold eye as well. It was GOSH liquid liner and pencil.

So, I have to write it all down:

The year ended super crappy: I got hacked on my work NB which I took with me to my parents place so I spent 24th till the next Monday trying to see what happened and fix stuff. During that time the person who hacked me used my Social Security Number to try to get a shitload of credit cards in my name. Thankfull the banks noticed and blocked everything so nothing was stolen in that regard. The person was using my NB to also send emails to work partners in my name and talk to co-workers without them knowing it wasn't me (that was only one day before I noticed and shut everything down, though)...

Back home on the 6th of January one of our two cats got hit by a car right outside our house and died. I loved that cat to bits and I am totally heartbroken and devastated.

He was the greatest cat ever. He could go out through our cat door but whenever we were home, so was he. He never went far from our garden and he always welcomed us home when we came home from work. He would start purring as soon as you touch him and had no idea about personal space. He would cuddle up so close and sleep on my chest when we watched TV frequently. He would love when we have guests and made it a point to spread hello's and cuddles to everyone visiting.

In the morning he would jump on my lap when sitting on the toilet (yeah..) and not let me put him down for about 5 minutes of cuddles..

He was so trusting that he would sleep on his back, all four legs spread wide, quite often. I just ordered a new big cat-tree for him and his "brother". They were inseparable and Mowgli, our other cat, hardly left the house since it happened.

I can't believe he is gone. He was my rock last year when it was a tough year for health and stress reasons and I can't think of him without starting to cry. :(

So yeah, crappy end to the old and even crappier start to the new year..

So sorry to hear the passing of your cat, Tash ;___; He sounds like an amazing companion and he was surely very loved.

That's a beautiful picture too. Much hugs.

oh shit, so sorry Tash. I know exactly how this feels :( I lost my cat last year and still miss her

Awww :( hugs to you, too, Trab. Fucking asshole car drivers that drive like maniacs..
I am so tempted to make a poster out of this pic and put a sign up next to the road (we also live on the country side - it's not even a main road) saying:
YOU killed our family member. Please drive more carefully so you don't kill his brother, too.

Nooooooo :( I always get teary-eyed reading posts about people losing pets, especially cats. I think I'll be devastated when I lose mine. ;_;

So sorry, Tash. *hugs* May your other cat bring you the comfort you need.

Thanks much guys <3
We put the cat tree up which got delivered finally. Really heartbroken Badger never got to see and try it :(
Mowgli is Ok with the tree I guess but I know Badger would have spent all day on it. Mowgli is not as social as Badger was (even though he is a great cat, too) and goes out much more often. Still feels really empty and lonely without Badger but I at least I am not constantly breaking out in tears any more.
