GirlGAF |OT 2| Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Eve?

Girl Gaf, I need help. I am a girl, but I do not know how to girl. I've never worn make-up except for one traumatic experience where I tried to use eyeliner and nearly poked my eye out.

Long story short(-ish), I'm loosing my eyebrows due to chemo and would like to draw some on so I can retain the ability to express emotions like "surprised". How do I do this without looking like this:

God's greatest gift to all humankind. If only it existed when I was a young teen. Old pictures of me are embarrassing.

Also I'm pulling for you and your chemo. I'm sure that's not fun. Kick that cancer in the ass girl.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll do some YouTube research and plenty of practice in front of a mirror! Nearly done with the chemo now (got the all clear a couple of weeks back and I've just got 3 more treatments to finish off!) so hopefully it won't be too long before they start to grow back anyway :)

Can't help you because I never wear makeup either, but just wanted to say best of luck with your chemo treatment.

You what I've noticed on here lately that really been getting my goat? The bullshit that gets leveled at young girls for having "shit taste" w/ regard to music, books, TV, and pop culture in general.

Some thread gets made about some popular person this or that, ibreaking sales records or what have you. Follow up dozens of replies talking about how there's no culture left in the world, and that the young girls who consume this material are somehow contributing the the downfall of civilization. I'm looking at these loli animu avatar having mother fuckers cast judgement on little girls as if they themselves aren't at the center of some sort of depraved social black-hole. It makes me want to punch them through my computer screen.

You know, you;d think these people never liked something shitty that was marketed effectively towards their demographic. *leers at Transformers* The fact of the matter is that we all like shitty things when we're kids and a great many people like shitty things well into adulthood. Including the shitty things they liked as a kid. I feel like consumers of twee-ish pop and other such fare, primarily young girls, are singled out more than they ought to be. Look at the 50 shades of nayyyy thread.. Yeah, does it sound ridiculous and stupid? Sure. But does it foreshadow the oncoming extinction of our species? Not any more than the loli hentai tentacle porn I'm sure a lot of these people have likely jacked off to in their lifetime.

I guess what I'm saying is that "let he or she who has never jacked off to some shit they'd rather the world not know about cast the first stone."

lol miney, your scathing wit is amazing! Love it!! So much truth.

serius, good luck with chemo!! Hope you'll kick cancer in the butt! Sorry I have zero input with regards to make up tips. I've neglected my face for years and it has given up on me.

What she said. Never wore make-up in my life, and I sure hope it won't be chemo that makes me start... :( Good luck Seriuz!

There are strict rules women must follow in order for their sexuality to be acceptable. For example, it is only proper for a woman to masturbate under the following conditions:

A: She's putting on a show for her man.
B: Thinking about her man, and will tell him about it later.
C: Putting on a show for a group of guys. I mean, she's a dirty whore and we don't respect her but she's still pretty cool.

Enjoying sexual thoughts and stimulation without a man somewhere in the chain is weird.

well, you see, women only exist in the first place for men. you seeeee? it's unnatural if women do things for themselves.

This gets me too. Like, they love to make fun of me because I am open about the fact that I read fanfic. So, they use it like a weapon or some shit, like I should be ashamed of reading fanfic, and yet I am sure they jack off to some crazy porn. Someone saying that written porn is so it makes it easy to pretend you are involved...like POV porn isn't a thing? Wasnt there a thread a few weeks ago about how even hearing the dude makes them not like the porn? Ugh.

I try to jump in thread like that and explain why women like written porn or fanfic (because it's easier to emotionally connect with the characters than watching two random people fucking) but it just turns into a circle jerk of people laughing about me liking fanfic. It's hilarious when you look at the popular male porn out there and yeah, the anime shit.

But if you disguise things as a romance novel noone bats an eye!

Yes. I have a lot of criticisms of books like Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey (the creepiness and abusiveness of the male protags being a big one), but...I get the strong impression that many people jump on the hate bandwagon simply because they're books liked by young girls and women.

I agree with this. It's right to criticize the deeper subtext in the media we consume. There are disturbing social messages in a lot of stuff that gets marketed towards kids; girls in particular. Thoughtful examination of these sorts of things is a worthwhile endeavor, but like you said, this here hate bandwagon is trucking on about something different.

Instead of meaningful discourse you have what essentially boils down to oh my God this is so popular. How? Girls have such shit taste. Fuck this planet.

Here's a perfect illustration of what I'm talking about.

Leonardo DiCaprio

When he first became a star he was adored by young girls and abhorred by boys and men. Titanic was a good movie, he was clearly a good actor. But right after Titanic, guys just fucking hated him and didn't take him seriously as an actor.

Until he started starring in movies that guys like.

Gangs of New York and Catch Me If You Can made it acceptable for guys to acknowledge that Leonardo DiCaprio was a good actor. Before that, he's gay and you're gay if you like him and any of his movies. (I have brothers, I remember this shit.)

The Beatles

Still dismissed by a lot of people because of the videos of girls screaming at their concerts.

Etc.

I just don't understand why girls don't like comic books, anime, or video games that show them in such a great light. ;-; Sometimes they even get to be the protagonists!

Negative connotations associated with femininity in general. Boys and men being ostracized "gay" whether they are or not, by not following a strict but discorporate body of "rules" regarding masculinity and femininity.

Insulting and assaulting gays, in my opinion, in some ways is also an attack against women and femininity. Not because these people and things are, in fact, effete (some of the most "manly" men I know are gay). But because this perceived lack of masculinity and therefore excess of femininity is what lies at the heart of the vitriol levied against them.

If any of that made sense. Leave me alone. It's late. :[

It makes perfect sense. Homophobia and misogyny/flight from the "feminine" are pretty deeply entwined.

Such girl. Much protagonist. You don't realize she's actually super powerful. Her oversized tits and ass are swollen because they're the power reserves that help regulate her psychic energy.

I grew up in a place where most boys didn't even have action-figures because even the idea of a human shaped toy was to close to a Barbie and thus too gay for those kids.

Seriously.

It was a horrible place. Girls didn't even speak about their interests if a boy was around and those who did were shat on constantly.
I never admitted to like Sailor Moon for example since that would've been a death sentence.

Seriously I even started to feel that they can read my mind and tried to surpress even thinking positively about it.

All this going on the choo choo bandwagon is great and everything, but I don't see any comments in that thread saying how terrible it is while having some loli animu avatar. But by all means, keep stereotyping and drawing conclusions on no basis.

???

It might have began as a response to that particular thread, but the overall sentiment exists in OT. Just look at any thread about 50 Shades, Twilight, etc.

That's what our general griping is about.

While this one particular instance may have sparked the last page, it's certainly a pervasive occurrence on GAF at times.

I know, those concerns are valid. There are still three references saying what I am referencing to.

I have not been in that thread, actually. I just been responding to Miney's topic in this one. I think her points are more universally applicable, she simply quotes that thread as an example?

Or am I off the mark?

IDK. I still think Miney's points are pretty valid in general... I dont get the impression that she's snarking against anyone in particular or any threads, just voicing out a general distaste on how girls' tastes are often belittled or dismissed.

As for my dislike for loli animu skeeviness, it has always been stronk with me. I have very dubious regards for anyone who finds children-looking characters romantically or sexually appealing.

I think I'm misunderstanding what you are referring to, can you please clarify?

I thought, and was responding to, the bolded.

Just explaining that it's not necessarily that one thread, so therefore the basis isn't just that one thread, and neither are the conclusions.

I am talking about the connection between loli anime avatars and those people specifically complaining about that type of media consumption.

While having bolded that specific part of Mineshaft_Gap.

Oh me too. But you and I have both likely seen that 'underage' tag/warning on AO3. It makes that fic an instant 'nope' for me, but again, if those guys that love the loli thing found out about it, they'd be baffled. For some damned reason.

I just don't understand the shock I guess. What in the world would make a person who gets off to 'ancient demon trapped in a six years old's body' shit or I dunno, rosebud porn think pretty damned innocent RPF about a boy band is creepy and the end of the world?

And there.

I have not been in that thread, actually. I just been responding to Miney's topic in this one. I think her points are more universally applicable, she simply quotes that thread as an example?

A problem with people having those kind of avatars and people complaining about the media consumption of the more sexual side of women are both worth arguing about. But I don't see a link between the two and so you give extra negative associations to both types of people.

And there.

Sorry dude, I was only replying in terms of how often I see loli animu avatars gushing for their waifus, and shamelessly doing so. And some of these characters are borderline children-looking. Haven't been to the thread in the question.

You seem to be hellbent on being specific. We're just girls discussing general trends that we perceived. That thread may be picked as an example by Miney, for reasons that she's starting her topic in terms of "how girls tastes are regarded as foolish and culture destroying". She went on later to point that people shouldn't point fingers so easily as some of what we're into may not be the most respectable shit.

Me, I'm only responding in terms of general forum behaviour.

Oh, for me there is no link. I just hate loli animu avatars. Miney's topic just reminded me of how much I have distaste for them.

My first response to miney's post, in where I quoted some of her post in bold was only to appreciate her scathing wit. Again, I haven't been to that shades of nayyy thread.

The other post I made was separate. As you can probably scroll up to see, I even doubleposted for it since in my mind, the two are not directly linked. I'm just reminded on how much I hold in very low regards, those loli animu avatars people.

Hope that clarifies.

^

These whole exchange actually reminds me of a section from Catcher in the Rye, which I just finish rereading.

The bit about Richard Kinsella
and how Holden liked when he switched to talk about his uncle even though he started talking about the farm and how the rest of the class kept yelling "Digression!" at him.

XD

I get the feeling that Miney was just talking out loud with her posts (typing out loud, maybe, more apt), and then she meandered about happily, and I was happy to meander with her.

Spoilered just in case :>

The so much truth implied to me that you agreed with that specific comparison considering that was bolded, but I suppose that can also refer to the rest of the post.

I am just bothered that it is an association of which I don't see any reason for it being true, which is then picked up by Fiction too.

Also haven't read Catcher in the Rye yet. :<

It's a very good book!! I didn't like it when i had to read it at first but it really captured youth very well. ... I think. I recommend it! It also isn't very long 😃

Yea, there may be an association between loli avatars and their hypocritical stance... But i personally just dislike them cuz its kinda gross to think of children as waifus and stuff. Sorry that my posts are all over the place... Haha.

I guess i should look into the thread now... Doesn't seem to be a fun place to jump into~ awuuuu

I'd say yesno is correct regarding my intentions.

Additionally, the statements you seem to have a problem with are not that important to the overall argument that women and girls constantly get shit on for the things we like. While that thread is what sparked my interest in having the discussion, it's not an exemplar of the loli animu avatar statement. Bravo for you though, this pedantry over a minor aside made for comedic and illustrative effect has allowed you to never once have to seriously consider the overall point I was expressing.

So now that the straw man has been burned and set aside I guess that means you can join in the actual discussion. Fun times! :D

Is it defensiveness over what a women 'should' be like? Maybe?

Yes. Yes it is. I feel as though there's this notion that female sexuality needs to involve, and be accessible to men. Someone pointed out before about butch lesbians and how they get zero respect in society. I wonder if that's because men feel that since they're both not traditionally attractive AND not sexually accessible they basically have no worth.

A lot of guys get their jimmies rustled over vibrators too. I used to uhmmm. get products for free to test and review. So I have a plastic bin filled with toys. That really made my ex uncomfortable. I wonder why.

They insult each of us differently but it is funny how similar the box is for Old women, Trans Women, Masculine women, Fat women, Disabled women and pretty much anyone else that that falls outside the group of who many males feel exist to be attractive.

Don't apologize for the loli animu uguuuuuu comments. A lot of us feel the same way about what you said. There is so many cringeworthy comments in those type of threads. Best to just smh and stay away.

Don't know if this was a rhetorical question or not but the main reason is that it attacks the ego and a lot of guys look at it was a way in which they themselves are not enough to get the job done so they need help.

Yes, I was enjoying the discussion too. I don't know why it has to be specific and stuff... I mean, a topic can trigger a number other points of discussion and since the 'on topic' discussions can be had at the actual thread, I felt like this thread gives more space to discuss peripheral trends.

This is a topic that I actually find very interesting, too. Women's porn seems to be regarded as awkward topic of conversation whilst men's porn is generally and widely accepted as normal and even lauded. For example, I've observed men talking about their porn collection or folder or waifus openly but, heaven forbid a woman talking about getting hot and bothered from reading steamy fanfics!

Basically, when men talks about porn, they are regarded as normal men behaving like natural men. But when women talks about porn, we are given hints that what we like are laughable.

I find that weird too. Everyone masturbates. I'm not sure how vibratory are an attack on the male ego. We just sometimes need tools to masturbate. I wish it was as easy as just rubbing one out. /jealous

And yeah, on topic, I've stopped trying to educate men about women and porn. It always turns into attacks against me or being kept back as ammo against me in unrelated topics so why bother.

Ah. I am misunderstanding that then. I was thinking of using a vibrator during sex, not during solo play. If that is the case, then yeah, I don't get it at all.

Perfect post. It is so tiring that even in here we get guys coming in to tell us we're doing something wrong, something that they don't approve of. Anything that guys enjoy has its place and is ultimately harmless, but heaven forbid there is something that mostly women enjoy. The 50 shades BS was ridiculous and I didn't even read any of the books. The thread about the movie was fast and furious before it actually released then got awfully quiet when some people saw the movie and it wasn't the worst thing ever released in the world.

I don't understand this post but I just want to say that vibrators are great all the time for every situation.

Since we're going on this tangent now... Honestly, I try not to judge or make assumptions or generalities about posters with the waifu avatars. I really do.

But then I see certain, ahem, threads, and I see the posts, and I see the avatars, and I can't help noticing a trend.

So yeah, I try. But is it really my fault if they make it so difficult not to? XD
