Got back from work at 11, so I have to wait until morning when this hits Hulu to catch it. Looks like the same problem next week as I am closing. Dammit.

Any clue as to what Britney songs they are going to use in the second episode are?

Also upset that I am going to miss this tonight, as I am working. But Hulu will be my friend in the morning.

It was OK. Not brilliant or fresh, but certainly not as subpar as most of Season 1's later nine. I'm still slightly optimistic that it'll be able to at least maintain passable level of quality for the duration of the season.

Sue continues to be golden and will probably deserve that Emmy again next year.

This show is so great but the lack of character progression is kind of lame.

Yeah, it is super frustrating. Some of the ridiculous things that Rachel says are wildly entertaining though :lol

And good for Beiste for creating the most sympathetic character on the show. I'm also interested on how they can get Sunshine and Sam back into the club ("they got my mom a condo and a green card!")

Also can't wait for
Sam and Kurt

someone complained that there was too much autotune in Listen? I didn't hear it. Charice has a great voice, but man that acting. ehhhh

eh. I don't think Sunshine is coming back. Gotta have more competition. It's like Disney's Camp Rock 2 :lol
I wonder how they'll get
sam and kurt
. oh and i'm glad the support characters are getting more lines. the asian people got to talk or at least were on camera even if one of them was shirtless and all abs <3

Telephone. Rachel and Sunshine in the bathroom. it was autotuned to where their voice was the same. quite annoying especially parts where rachel's voice just sounds like a nail on chalkboard.

EDIT: just listening to the song online. god it was a terrible autoned song seriously :\

Nice start to the new season! Liked the Sunshine/Rachel Telephone in the bathroom, they have to get her back.

And is the
Sam and Kurt
thing really going to happen I thought I heard otherwise.

No, it's definitely happening from what I hear.
They even dropped small hints of it like "singing will get you all of the girls!" *pause*

Anyone wanna make a gif of Fin's blissfully ignorant enjoyment expression during Charice's performance of Listen?

Looks like John Stamos is going to get some songs in this season too. I didn't know he was a broadway performer. So apparently everyone is getting some kind of nemsis this season. It seems competition and rivalry are going to be themes. Finding out what you want and getting whats yours.

Rachel and Sunshine
Quinn and Santanna
Schuster and Stamos
Artie and Other Asian
Sue and The Beast

Maybe. Finn didn't really seem pissed that Sam had his old position. But it would make sense. Finn is threatened by Sam the same way Rachel is by Sunshine, they can do their "jobs" better than they can.

Finn is WAYYYY Too nice that's why he doesn't have that competitiveness like Rachel but maybe IF Sam joins Glee Mr. Shu will put him with every lead then he would feel like an outcast then he'll feel threatened.

I guess we'll have to find out later.

and Brittany x Britney episode <3 i hope she has more awesome one liners :lol.

I keep hearing Brittany at random times "Stop the violence." The same way that Jersey Shore "Santa Claus is dead." pops into my head at times when I probably shouldn't be laughing.

The thing with Telephone though is that the original has that much autotune. I dont see a problem with it

great episode. good to have the show back. very very funny.

a) filipino girl is weirdly young/short/stumpy looking

b) thought she wasn't a good singer, then we get to rachael's solo and I prefered the new girls voice.

c) new coach is hilarious

d) finn + blondie in shower was pervvy

e) what other show is the vocal adr. coach from? He's very familar looking to me. I was like hmmm... Is he the guy from 30 rock?

f) telephone number was a total crack up. sue coming in to say shut up was fucking hilarious

Shame the filipino girl didn't stay on at WMH. Her duking it out in singing battles with Rachel would've made for a nice dynamic, to be honest. Hopefully they bring her back.

Sue's lines are fantastic as always.

Also, what happened to Ken Tanaka?

No Emma makes me :(

d) It's basically a recreation of the scene with Shue listening to Finn sing in the shower, which was just as pervy.

e) Yes, he was a new cast member last year that dated Liz briefly and had the robot skit.

:lol The beginning was great. My roommate was laughing at me for watching it. He saw the beginning and proceeded to sit down and watch it with me.

and wtf at
Vocal Adrenaline stealing the new girl, who isn't as great as Rachel, but still pretty good.
I'm super pissed about that.

And next week will be AWESOME.

Okay, can't believe I'm saying this, but Charice completely owned Lea Michelle this episode. Not in acting, no, but in singing? Yes. Her voice is utterly amazing, though the autotuning on 'Telephone' basically hid the difference.

Wish she were joining the cast as a regular.

A pretty good episode all round I thought - the start was hilarious though! A friend just pointed me to the preview for next week's episode and... well.... the girls of glee are pretty sexy anyway but next week looks like it might be too much for me :D

yep; seems to be setting up for a more storydriven season. Though quite disappointed about Q's character reset. Grew so much in the last season only to be back as Cheerios leader again wtf

You lying sonofabich. Rachel is like an angel descended to give us the gift of amazing vocals. And i love that she is a cold bitch who looks out for herself. she is gonna be a broadway star (which i think Lea Michele already is?). No need to let some frumpy bitch get in her way and take a solo or two, right?

I heard that part and I was wondering how the hell she could sound robotic (like in the original song) while she's singing in a bathroom. Seriously, WTF?

I didn't hear any autotune with Listen. Maybe they just don't have a good ear (OR me HA).

I'm okay with Autotune but that shit was nasty what they did with Rachel/Cherice. Make it sound like good autotune or don't.

anyways.

Episode is up ftw.

I am still unsure about Sunshine/Cherice especially her acting.

...and that's the problem with highlighting the use of auto-tune in the show open, then following it up with a song that lives and dies with the use of the technology. The original performers can't even sound like that when they do the song live, so while it should be excusable to do on the show, it just sounds bad here (iTunes sales notwithstanding).

-Brittany being lost in the sewers over the summer was a great line for how tremendously underplayed it was.
-The Santana storyline left me wondering if I need a season-to-season comparison shot, or if that uniform just doesn't do her justice. Seemed more like an excuse to reset the rivalry with Quinn (whose uniform does do her justice) than anything else.
-I also like that the School's 'inappropriate touching' doll is wearing a cheerio uniform. (I'd like it more if I didn't secretly expect them to be selling those online sometime soon.)
- Although the Artie plot was stupid, it did leave me wondering what the High School policies are regarding physical disabilities (a la Casey Martin and the PGA from a few years back)
- I actually thought Sunshine going to VA was a bit of good writing, since it wasn't what we all expected (new cast member = new glee club member)....and it solves the problem of VA losing their star performer to graduation.
- Speaking of which: Tall coach carrying a girl's hello kitty backpack - I :lol 'd
- The 'Coach Beiste' story just fell flat with me. The show presented her as a caricature originally, and then tried to back-fill with personality traits that ran contrary to what we had just seen. Moreover, it served to further emasculate Mr. Schu (you know, the man-whore)....who could really use a course-correction away from this sort of thing.

Was anyone else irked that the Glee club's solution to having their funding cut was to spend money on matching costumes to dance on the school steps? I normally overlook that sort of thing in the show (the costumes make it enjoyable) but it's rather hard to do so when the whole scene prior was hammering home how little money they have.

let's pretend it was from quinn's church funds. :lol

"Cheerios Try-Outs - No Fatties" :lol

EDIT: i think it's just a song sequence. since they all got gold chains. so while it appears they got a costume. it's just them singing in regular clothes? but i guess it throws the money thing out of sync.

I think Charice has better overall pipes for the sort of songs she was singing. Lea probably has a more dynamic range though, due to the sheer amount of variety in the songs she's had to sing over the years on Broadway. Hell, I doubt Charice could sing Sondheim and make it at all pleasing to the ear. So they're different, but for the songs they were given and were shown in this episode, Charice was far more impressive.

Full ratings are in, and Glee won the night easily.

LiveFeed said:
The season two debut of "Glee" delivered 12.3 million viewers and a 5.5 preliminary adults 18-49 rating. That's the show's second highest-rated episode ever and up 57% from its premiere last fall (which was technically a repeat of its May preview). "Glee" easily ranked as the highest-rated show of the night. The "Glee" rating comes despite the musical comedy launching Fox's lineup at 8 p.m. instead of receiving a lead-in at 9 p.m. like last year.

when Sue comes in the bathroom to say "SHUT UP" still gets me :lol

Even auto-tuned to all hell, the song was still enjoyable to me. I would've liked to see them perform the whole thing.

But yeah, I can accept slight dissatisfaction for Sue being awesome.

There's a difference between auto-tuning and deliberate post-processing, which Telephone was of the latter. Now you might not like the effect they were going for, but it's more than just "autotune"

I think it would have been great if they broke into costume. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yThJQFMRtrg

but while was she smiling through the whole thing?!

You mean Sunshine? I actually liked that she was. The two had noticeably very different responses to that experience: Rachel was conflicted and anxious about a potential rival, while Sunshine was oblivious to this and was just having fun singing with her. Which is why I liked the character - to her, there was no rivalry, so she's completely unaware as to why Rachel responded the way she did.

I hope they play off that again some more in later episodes.

It's one thing for the show to use autotune to make the performance sound like the original, but when the original involves heavy use of autotune as part of its post-processing, it shatters any hint of an illusion that the kids really sound like that.

(Which is what I was trying to say in my earlier post.)

It's just a bad song choice, particularly after calling attention to the use of autotune in the show open.

All the song segments have never been meant to be viewed literally, but more as reality + dreamscape, ala lighting where there should be none, background music without any source, costume changes, etc. Some are more real than others, but most, if not all have had elements of fantasy mixed in.

This sequence I took to be how the two girls heard their favourite song in their own heads as they were singing out loud.
