This year should be pretty interesting. Particularly with Nokia and Motorola delivering on afew strong handsets.

excellent, Nokia's market share has decreased substantially.
I think S.E might soon get to 10% with the success of the K700 and other such phones.

erm. Nokia actually improved lately in sales and quality. S.E have been lacking lately. K700 is out of date now compared to same priced phones. The Nokia 6230 outclasses it and has extra features not possible on k700. Motorola's V3 cemented them in the fashion stakes. Their image has taken a nice upturn. Samsung have lots of cheap clamshell phones and should sell well.

Nokia's market share was over 50% only a few years ago.
S.E was at 4% and the K700 is still selling like hotcakes.
It is a fantastic phone and shits on the 6230, the only thing the 6230 does better than the k700 is expandable memory.
Videos, music, pics and games etc are all done better on the K700 - shame it didn't have a memory expansion slot.
I'm sure that there is a K700 update soon though with momory expansion.

:lol

Nokia's biggest ever marketshare was in the higher 30's%. Ericsson on the other hand used to be huge 2nd to Nokia back in the day.

Not really comparison worthy but 6230 has the same price and somehow includes EDGE as well. K700 is old now. Different breeds in a way but 6230 is selling like hotcakes and is newer, more appropriate for the market and smaller.

I must say I am surprised that Motorola made 2nd! I like SE and would like to see them get better. I currently use K700 and I love it, but I have to admit it was a little hard to go from a smartphone (Siemens SX1) to a regular phone. But I got used to it.

Among the new phones SE will bring this year is the K750, with EDGE and 2 MP camera and expandable memory. Similar design to the K700 but nicer colors.

There is also the K600 which is a small 3G phone; really sexy but I think no expandable memory. SE's designs are always solid and really nice, and durable for a guy like me; occassionally my phone would slip my hand and "CUCHING"!! Off it goes plummiting to the ground. I swear it drops as if I intentionally flung it to the ground head first :D.

It seems that phone makers this year will focus on Music and 3G. SE is said to bring back the Walkman brand in their phones :). Nice!

I can see Motorola gain some ground this year with their V3 spinoffs and their iTunes equiped phones. And Siemen's 7.2% is up for grabs, with their division closing and all.

Motorola were on the verge of going downhill but (design wise) their latest phones are great.

Despite the rather crappy features and the pain in the ass Bluetooth that won't pick up any fucking phones, I love my V3! :)

Sony-Ericsson have flatlined of late. Their only success is in mindshare; everyone thinks they're bigger than they are. And they've had tons of "breakthrough" handsets for years now -- T68, T610, K700 -- but it doesn't make a difference because the rest of the line is shite and sells poorly.

Motorola have been second for a while but are under serious threat from Samsung. Samsung's growth has stalled a little bit -- they're not pumping out innovative and attractive handsets like they were only six months ago -- but they're still pretty formidable. It'll be interesting to see what sort of impact the new RAZR line has on Motorola, because generally the high-end phones aren't what dictates marketshare. But it might have a knock-on effect as people look at Motorola phones in general again.

And while Nokia's market share is down on their all-time highs it's actually UP from a year ago. They've cut the losses and actually strengthened their position slightly. And in general their phones look a lot better this year than they did last year -- specs-wise they're actually competitive for a change (the 6230 started this nice trend but last year it was the exception -- this year it's the rule) and they have a set of standard clamshells now rather than the fashionista line of last year. So it looks like they'll continue to do well.
