The game is no dlc. So much new shit. Wow.

Combat just keeps getting better. It was those elves. Worst enemy design in the first game. Same thing here. The rest of the enemies are fun to fight with the tweaks they have made to the combat system.

And now that I’ve come to understand that this is more of a slow burner instead of a gow3 god killing bonanza, I’m beginning to enjoy the story beats more. Its very naughty dog inspired. I know people hate nd on these boards but i still like them warts and all, and ssm is probably doing the nd fornula better than them in this game.
About the bold part: absolutely not

Hence that part where they tried to pull a Left Behind type of level and failed big time. The majority of players hated that level, including me.

The mocap, direction and etc. are excellent, ND level. But writing? It's very average, and miles away from ND skills. Conversations sounds forced, unatural ...

Again, compare that level to Left Behind. LB is a 2h DLC, and at the end you feel for Riley and Ellie's relationship.

I didnt have this problem with GOW 2018. That game was focused on Atreus and Kratos mostly, sure, but it seems like it was better written.

That Freya and her brother section, ugh, sounded like brazilian telenovelas.

Kratos also sounds so much more emotional in this game. He developed during the last game, sure, but at the end of that game he wasnt like this.

Going from that straight to this version of him, that looks more like an overly protective mother, is jarring af

Ok, lets say they went youre way and didnt include RPG. You dont think there would be other people complaining that its not RPG enough? How can it even be possible for a developer to make a game that fits all? I mean there will never ever be one, so just play the game or dont, thats it.

I don't know what to tell you man, as GMGOW has been a smooth sailing so far for me. Haven't encountered any inconsistency whatsoever, outside of my improving timing for parrying Grims attacks and the occasional Bonuses of equipment. But I'm still early on so who knows.

On my end I'm having some broken moments. I already described the combat issues, but I've also had the game bug out on my a few times causing me to reload. As I type this I'm on the
Heimdall
fight, and he's just walking toward me and not doing anything and not taking damage, forcing me to reload.

I mean God of War wasn’t RPG series to begin with, the 2018 version they decided turn in in to RPG because apparently games can no longer being action games, they have to be RPGs.
 
I'm surprised that with all the accessibility options in the game, they forgot an alternate way to land parries. I have carpal tunnel in my pointer fingers that makes it harder to press the shoulder buttons in quick succession. Looked through the settings and they have an alternate block, but not parry. Weird oversight but I've been managing for the most part.

Also, the subtitle options are lacking. There needs to be a smaller text option and a way to position the subs closer to the edge of the screen, because they may as well be right in the center of the damn screen as it is lol

Almost at the end. Damn is this game long.

- During the initial and mid section of the game, the story wasn't as gripping as I was expecting. It was all "go from point A to point B" with very underwhelming revelations each time you reached your destination. The Third Act, however, was excellent. It felt really epic joining all your allies for the great battle.

- Cool characters overall, truly. There's a lot of heart in this game. Some of them, however, were quite insufferable in some stages (v.g.: during that section where you go to break her spell, I really wanted to rip Freya's head off and play soccer with it; fuck was that bitch insufferable in those moments. Who da FUK does she thinks she is pushing fucking Kratos like that? That bitch doesn't even imagine how fucked she is if he decides to react. Anyways, she redeemed herself in the end).

- Kratos and Atreus arc of wising up and maturing was very well done; but I have to admit, I really wanted old Kratos to resurface in the end for the vengeance. I thought they were hinting at that in the early fight with Thor. Damn it was going to be so cool to bash Odin's skull while him begs for mercy; you don't FUCK with KRATOS. But nope, he's too wise now, too cool headed, too balanced. Closest we got to that was the Heimdall boss fight, and it was awesome.

- Peak moments for me: 1. Initial fight with Thor; 2. Atreus chapter in Asgard (dem landscapes); 3. Heimdall boss fight (Kratos unleashing his former self); 4. Spark of the World (dem visuals); 5. Going all in to the Ragnarok with all the bros and hoes you met during the game.

Just a suggestion, but maybe you should't be playing two (and completely different) games at the same damn time?
I was just starting my NG+ before putting it on pause for GOW. Also that's a silly excuse to deflect from criticism of a game. It's funny because the game had a moment where a character was like "let me speed this up" when I was solving a puzzle lmao.

Yea, level gating these games makes 0 sense and doesn't add to the experience. Just makes the enemies more bulky. But I'm sure theres a study group that shows people invest more time when theres rpg mechanics no matter how light.
 
Anyone knows what version 2.001 is for? It was probably released in the last few hours.
All I could find out is that its Ps5 only.

Anyway, after like 8 hours I’m still loving this shit and wondering more and more how there’s a small group of people that criticizes how similar this is with the previous entry

They literally introduced a new playable character, new play style, new moves, weapons, new settings, etc. everything about this game screams “sequel done right” in my opinion.
 
I've seen plenty of dislike for Witcher 3, especially the combat. Every popular game has its detractors from Witcher 3 to Elden Ring to BOTW to RDR 2 and especially first party console games. This isn't new.

Combat is the only negative people have about W3

Story, world, lore, pacing, difficulty, characters, dialogue are all fantastic

I doubt that. If anything, this game will not have a good legacy.

The pacing is just bad. They're just shoving 80% of the story into this game and there's just way too much of it for a God of War game. This is getting Naughty Dog level of ridiculous. So many cutscenes, talks, and walking sections that don't end. Long and boring parts that stretch for hours where you barely fight. Puzzles every two rooms.

The parts where you play as
Atreus
are just beyond dull. It's a shame because the combat system has been improved from the previous game but not much else has. It's becoming a slog playing through this. Furthermore, I can't see myself going for a NG+ if it's available considering how much unskippable content there is.

Not a bad game, but I'm not feeling it anymore. I'll just watch the rest of the story on youtube. Can't bear the sluggish pacing anymore.

The little turd is seriously starting to annoy me. The only time I hated him more was when he suddenly turned into an asshole in GOW 2018. At least it was only for like 1-2 hours. He's seriously getting on my nerves with how stupid he is acting. They also use one of the most annoying storytelling tropes to build tension: Have characters not tell stuff when they should so we can get stupid disagreements that could be settled if they just sat down.

I hope they have a good reason for that.
 
I have seen countless complains about story and how it drags. Complains about pacing issues, characters etc.

Most of the criticism stems from being overhyped.

Honestly, I expected far more people getting disillusioned.

SSM build it over multiple installments, critic's just fan the flames.

You are pretty much setting yourself up for disappointment.

I will play it in a year or so, with zero hype and no love for Kratos, to see how game actually is.

Elden Ring did not had this issue cause it was kept under wraps and nobody knew how it was gonna be. Surprise, surprise, there is 200 hrs of content.

Nah. I've recently played Part I remake, Legacy of Thieves collection and TLOU Part II

As I said, the first GOW also seems better in terms of writting (replayed it recently).

Look around and you'll see that I'm not alone criticising this aspect of the game

Feeling zero connection to the characters or the story so far. I was much more engaged with the first game.

Combat is doing the heavy lifting. It's incredible, even 15h later.

The highlight was when I realised I was on a quest line involving two guys who turned out to be gay, now that's pretty normal in today's games but what had me laughing my ass off was the realisation that I picked it up from a RAINBOW campfire. Because the developer needed to spell that out for you.
There’s a lot of homo erotica in Norse mythology. So, it’s fitting.

This game is truly perplexing to me, I'm about 11 hours in and i go 1 hour bored out of my fucking eyeballs and then another hour and its riveting, I'm really starting to feel the walking simulator complaints, but there are also times where it doesnt matter because whats going on is really interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but expectations are sky high when it comes to SSM, ND, Nintendo ED, Rockstar..
Gamers hold these developers in such high esteem, that they tend to be overly critical of their products, pointing out issues thst would go unnoticed, were similar titles to be launched by less prestigious teams.

I fucking hated elves in the first, but it's like they were designed to be hated at higher difficulties.
About to meet them here, kinda nervous to be honest, but on the other hand GMGOW has been too easy so I welcome more challenge.

man this feels so good. extremely polished on multiple fronts.
im 15 hrs in and taking my time and still dreading that it is going to be over.
shame to get games of this calibre just couple of times during a whole generation.
Because you can't make games like these in less than 5 years, it is what it is. Can't think of another single studio on the planet able to pull a game like this off as well.

This is why people complaining about lenght and amount of content and complexity are funny as fuck to me.

Oh yes, the gaming world circulates around NeoGAF. I'm seeing people praise this game on Twitter all the time.
It's also almost like majority of people are nerding in the actual game, leaving the Thread at the mercy of many totally objective and unbiased people.

I will wait till I end the game to have the final opinion on it. But I like ND games formula. I didn't like TLOU Part 2 story and characters and that's a different argument/complaint, but the game formula works. These games are story and character heavy games and I think ND does it masterfully. SSM follows that path for GOW 2018 and Ragnarok but I much rather prefer this story, these characters and this world so I'm enjoying it way more than I enjoyed anything from ND since Uncharted 2 & The last of us.
 
The one shot camera is really holding things back unnecessarily imo especially if you ever want to replay the game. It was much less of a problem in 2018 as the story felt much more intimate but they have added a load of characters and want you to see what they are up to but the way the game achieves this feels so artificial and unnecessary just for a gimmick that doesn’t need to be there.

Much of the story stuff could have been stuck in a skipable cutscene and it could have cut to other characters for a bit rather than then lead to sections like IW. I think my main problem with IW is that the game needs a particular character to be there for a while for the narrative to make sense but the one shot camera means the player also has to be there the entire time.

The combat is really good and I love the fact that, while there is a best way of dealing with each enemy, there isn’t an only way. Spiderman and Batman annoyed me in this respect where if it was say a brute enemy you could only really defeat them using a certain skill while in GOW anything goes.

The level design feels like a slog though like players can’t be trusted to have a section without any combat so much of the combat feels like filler as you aren’t getting these big arena battles but three or four trash mobs. Walk and talk, crawl through gap, small fight, rinse and repeat until the next big set piece.

I just think the above stuff really throws off the pacing as they have chosen to present 99% of the story from the characters POV in walk and talk sections and thanks to the one shot camera they can’t cut away to explain something. But because there are so many walk and talk sections they have felt the need to add a mini combat arena every few minutes so it really feels like a slog at times.

Played for a couple of hours. Dont get the love for this game yet.

Feels like DLC. Liked everything in the 2018 version more than what I have now. Not going to spoil anything. But so far it’s rather meh. All that keeps me playing is the great combat system. But that’s nothing new. Curious if I’ll change my mind.
