GoldenEye 007 |OT| For 360, James? No... For Wii

So the game is not 16:9 right? Either that or the HUD/on screen prompts are not 16:9 while the gameplay itself is. The text looks stretched and or hard to read.

Just making sure it's not a problem on my end.

As long as the hacking isn't wide spread I guess I can deal. :( I hope more people know how to play GoldenEye mode in the future though. Actually capture the computers and when someone is capturing one cover them. No voice chat is really needed for this. Only simple awareness of what is going on. This has to my least favorite mode at the moment. Kind of annoying as well since this is the mode I was most looking forward to.

The night club is pretty dark in single player. Great atmosphere but hard to see but then again maybe it's suppose to be that way. Though you waste a lot of ammo as a result. I like that map online though a lot.

Hacking does not seem wide spread. All of my games have been smooth and hack free. I really dont even see the benefit to hacking in this style multiplayer. Its a very fast paced action Multiplayer.

Players who play smart and take advantage of air ducts and other places to hide though can do crazy numbers. The rest play the run and gun game and goldeneye has always benefitted playing smarter

Finished it! Mission structure below for those who are interested.

Mission 01 (Arkangelsk)
i. Dam
ii. Facility
iii. Runway

Mission 02 (Barcelona)
i. Nightclub

Mission 03 (Dubai)
i. Carrier (aka FRIGATE)

Mission 04 (Severnaya)
i. Outpost
ii. Bunker

Mission 05 (St. Petersburg)
i. Archives
ii. Tank
iii. Station
iv. Memorial

Mission 06 (Nigeria)
i. Jungle
ii. Solar
iii. Cradle

I can't tell properly, but I think I took about ten hours to complete it on 007 mode. There are no unlockables for completion on 007 Mode. No Aztec Complex or Egyptian Temple levels basically.

There might be unlockables for completion of all the Time Trials or all of the levels on 007 Classic mode, but I've yet to see it and quite frankly I doubt it.

Loved the game though. Amazing stuff. The only things that were missing that I can think of, well, didn't add much to the original game anyway.

Nice reimagining.

My only complain? Trevelyn didn't seem anywhere near as menacing as, say, Sean Bean did in the original movie and/or game. =(

What's the consensus on the pointer controls? I will be extremely disappointed and then some if the CC Pro is the way to go; this is the fucking Wii for christ's sake.

Now onto another relevant question: is the soundtrack just as good as the original? ü

No, because its not really iconic like the original. It's basically a big blockbuster soundtrack. It's not bad, but it doesn't create a cohesive industrial style like Rare's game did. There are a few nods here and there (like the Bunker level), and the Bond theme chimes in and out occasionally. It's fine, but wont blow you away.

Nicole Scherzinger's rendition of GoldenEye is great though.

Oh.

Oh well, it had lofty expectations to live up to; if it's passable on its own merits, that's fine.

And yeah, I heard Nicole Scherzinger's rendition and I was floored. Did not know she could sing that well. :lol

Been messing with the advanced Wii Remote settings. Maxed out cursor sensitivity, turn speed and a small deadzone. Damn you can turn around quick as shit.

Yeah. It's pretty much the Casino Royale / Quantom of Solace soundtrack. >_> At least it sounds like that.

So guys can you comfortably play this game on the Dolphin emulator using a mouse and keyboard or a dualshock 3?

there is no way they can top the n64 soundtrack. it is too amazing. every track memorable. every track matches the feel of the level. every track still distinctly bond. that soundtrack is a masterpiece on its own.

Yeah. As I said to someone previously, I didn't go in expecting it to be brand new or amazing to the point of eclipsing the original soundtrack. Heck, for some reason I was expecting older tracks to play - but then I remembered I was getting it confused with DKCR.

=D

I'm still a bit miffed about lack of unlockables though. Besides Time Trials + Cheats, of course.

hope my copy ships today I need to burn through this then CoD Black Ops, I hope this has the better single player and local multi and black ops has the better online and online co-op

The lack of remade tunes from the original is so disappointing. Or at least they could have used similar music. Plus it seems like the music doesn't change much, I've had one piece stuck in my head for like 3 hours now. :| Also, where's the Bond action theme?

Finally found the missing supply crate on Siberia:

Behind the freaking truck.

Archives was awesome. Streets is so anticlimactic coming from Archives. Ugh. Had to quit for the night after playing that level for just a few minutes.

Regarding Bunker:
did they try to throw Silo in there or some shit? Silo was one of my favorite levels, it's a shame it wasn't remade. Still, an awesome level, running around with night vision with an M93R was fun.

I'm really impressed with the SP. Shaping up to be the best Bond since the original GE. I was getting into the multiplayer, too. Just got to step back to a time with shit IQ/meh frame rate and it's pretty damn fun.

Wow, I never thought I'd ever consider dusting off my Wii again, but I'm seriously thinking about getting this.

Can someone tell me why this was made for Wii? I'm just having a hard time here fathoming why Activision would be so faithful as to make it exclusively for Nintendo.

Nintendo still own a portion of rights regarding an adaption of Goldeneye 007 as a game. Its why the HD remake for the 360 never came to market.

There might be a particular reason but I seem to recall Eurocom saying Goldeneye belonged on a nintendo system or something to that effect. Since you have a wii it shouldn't really matter that it's exclusive anyway.

Wouldnt be a Wii thread without the mandatory "dusty" remark. I miss the "kiddeh" one from the 90s :(

My Wii is literally on fire.

- Kirby
- Metroid Other M
- Goldeneye
- Donkey Kong
- Epic Mickey

Even if the last one is not that great, we will have a great Christmas together.

When is that one out already?
25th and 30th November? And this time it's EU first?
Seems I missed more releases than I'd like to lately :lol

i think the pointer is horrible, it doesnt feel accurate. the aim assist likes to snap on next to enemies or the floor. i know you can turn off the assists but to me it feels wonky. the framerate doesnt help things either. i rarely play wii fps though and there's plently of controls options so im sure you'll find one that fits your taste.

personally i plugged in a cube controller and it controls a lot better. i notice you cant look all the way down or up though. makes it impossible to kill people directly below you like say the toilet guy.

i really wish the wii could do 720p or at least didnt suffer from such bad dithering. the system struggles with this game and thats really the biggest flaw with an otherwise pretty nice goldeneye recreation.

Three more reviews:

Gamespy: 8.0/10.0

Gametrailers: 8.6/10.0

Cheat Code Central: 9.0/10.0

I very much agree with Gamespy's conclusion that the online offering is the best we've seen on Wii, even including Smash Bros. Brawl (which was pretty terrible but was pretty awesome that it even went online). Getting into a game is very fast, seamless, with quick gameplay, great options, and great features. Pretty damn good system they've got going on, and I've only tried Conflict and Golden Gun Mode!

I gave my Wii away about a year ago to a family up the street that couldn't really afford one for their kids that Christmas.

This year my girlfriend surprised me with one for our anniversary. (Really I think she bought it for herself to watch Netflix, I hear Torchwood playing 24/7)

Anyway. I picked up Goldeneye, No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Holy shit I'm overloaded with awesome right now. :D (Playing through all of these for the first time)

I'm really digging Goldeneye's multiplayer, it feels like a slightly arcadier version of Call of Duty. I jumped on for a couple hours last night with the CCPro and merc'd SO HARD!

I'm getting close to finals. This won't end well.

It's pretty amazing how I have completed the campaign and yet would love to play through it again. It was just so enjoyable. I loved the way the developers managed to keep things familiar (EG. Fighting Xenia on a bridge) but people who have played it will know it's still oh so different.

Fucking great stuff.

Does anyone else feel that Natalya is
criminally underused in this game? I know she is a bit annoying to escort around but it's just so weird having her not appear in Jungle or running through the Bunker with her, like old times.

Yeah. I noticed that too. It's kind of like how they implemented many elements of Frigate into the Dubai Arms Fair/Carrier mission. I liked the way they did that.

I've only played the first 2 levels, is the game more compelling from there? I really like the single player, but I've been more blown away by the multiplayer so far.

I found the whole game compelling. I felt the constant need to keep playing because I was sooo looking forward to seeing how everything was redone. So yeah.

So what other Wii game has pointer controls as good as this game does? CoD4? World at War? Anything? I'm really loving it and might want to check out some other shooters assuming they got the controls right too.

CoD4 and Red Steel 2 are tied for best pointer controls on the Wii, in my opinion, though I'm also loving GoldenEye. I haven't tried World at War but I assume they're good if CoD4 was. The Conduit is good too, and HVS really set the bar for pointer tweaking options, but I really hate the sluggish character movement and the gunplay is a bit rubbish.

I'd give the new COD a look. Treyarch knows how to handle a Wii FPS.

I personally found W@W controls kinda weird, it didnt feel liek you were hitting what you aimed for aimg felt off,

CoD4 and RE2 and conduit,MPT are the best also a not to rogue trooper

Was waiting for more review before making a purchase decision. I'm getting this one today. Put so much time in Goldeneye back in the days, I wanna relieve that again!
