In what way is Goldeneye any similar with Quake other than both games being in first person?

Also, even if you compare them, in what way is Quake better? I see a great but pretty simplistic game that isn't that much different than DOOM. Goldeneye does a lot more and it's more advanced.

And does Team Fortress even have a single player campaign?

You sound like all those PC users at the time who never played the game.

What really separated GE apart was it was objective based, and the higher the difficulty, the higher the number of objectives. It separated the Bonds from the Octopussies.

It did many things PC games were not doing, from AI to body part damage. Plus the unlockables and fun local MP.

Nobody cares what you think. Most of us have played the Perfect Dark remake and recent enough to have a good idea of what we are getting into. Find another thread to spew your nonsense or justify not owning an Xbox.

Multiplayer achievements? For fucks sake. It’s 2023. Enough with that

To top it off; this damn game doesn’t even have online multiplayer.

And no…. I’m not having multiplayer split screen in my home. I don’t even have friends anymore lol 😂

I got them from an achievement site but it doesn't make sense if it's a rare replay game only, as they usually don't have 1k.

They do have have 1k scores, they have numerous standalone games with 1k/200/400gs, it's a standalone game that you get free if you own rare replay.

If it is retrofitted into rare replay though, I hope they add some cool new features like maybe an interview/cancelled x360 info.

I had a PC at the time - played Team Fortress constantly and still liked Goldeneye more.
That garbage played out diss has been running for 30 years now.
People who say this basically had zero friends - everyone was playing 007 back then. Grade schoolers, college dorm parties, grandparents.

I still say the game does some interesting and unique things with its single player - even today. And the Bond license just seals the deal. Its still worth playing.

Hope it’s stand alone. Not sure about the rare replay menus. They some animations that slow down the browsing. I just want to be able to jump in more quickly. Certainly not the end of the world

I'm seeing conflicting info online that like Conker's Bad Fur Day it's not a separate SKU - I hope it is because I'll buy standalone if so. (I like having the individual game tiles).

Conkers bad fur day is an n64 game that is bundled into the collection. (The original Xbox remake, what is 4k and looks considerably better, but censored in some parts, is standalone though and very cheap)

The games that are standalone are the Xbox 360/XBLA titles & Goldeneye, but also give you rare replay rewards. (No idea if goldeneye does, as I don't even know if it's been integrated, I just know you get it free owning RR digital)

Rare Replay is worth a pick up and play if you're interested in the games, it's probably one of the better compilations imo + it's dirt cheap now days.

Just checked this out and you're right.

So even though you can't purchase the game stand alone, when you own Rare Replay you can install it separately and like B-K, B-T and PD it shows as it's own individual install.

That being said, it's an XBOX One game, so if like me you arrange your games by console type you've got all of your N64 games in the 360 section, but then Goldeneye sitting like a sore thumb in the One section.

On the positive side, they've not slapped the Rare Replay logo on the game tile like they do with the previously mentioned bundled games. It was that logo that drove me to buy them all separately.

Can't wait to play this tonight with my headphones. Soundtrack to Bond slaps fucking hard.

Quake has aged far better than Goldeneye, and the recently remastered version is fantastic to play today without neeeding to make excuses about how it was good for the time. Comparing the two it has much better movement, controls, framerate and enemy variety.

Quake and Goldeneye both show their age. Quake's recent rerelease is done better, that's all. Nobody's making any excuses for how Goldeneye plays at this point.

Have you ever actually played Goldeneye?

Yes, I still own the copy I bought back in the 90's where I completed it multiple times and had many hours of multiplayer fun. All games age but some better than others, and in this case it's the relative simplicity of Quake and Doom which mean they hold up better now, just as a lot of early 3d games are now less fun than their 2d counterparts.

Quake is one of my favorite games. But that still doesn't change the fact it was only a small evolution over DOOM. It's still a simple game with simplistic enemies and similar level design, only in true 3D this time. Simple doesn't mean bad btw, like i said, i absolutely love the game. But Goldeneye was far more ambitious and complex.

Obviously Quake has aged better, it's a simpler game with nice art direction and the labyrinthine level design that pretty much stopped evolving after the late 90s, with DOOM 64 being one of the last games that had this design. So there weren't many more recent games to surpass it. Goldeneye started a more modern FPS design that got surpassed by other games after it, so it's easier to dismiss it now. Though it still has better level/mission design than most modern games IMO and the hit detection is still the most perfect i have ever seen (along with Perfect Dark).

Quake's performance/graphics are also system dependent and the game isn't stranded to a single system that can't run it properly. If Quake was only playable on a slow 486 at 320x200 resolution and 15fps you wouldn't sing it's praises today. I dare you to play the original Quake on Dosbox and see how janky the monster animations and movement were, before motion interpolation was added much later in modern source ports. Even on the poor N64, Goldeneye's motion captured enemies look and move so much better that it felt like a generational leap, though Turok was the first that made it.

But it's easy to compare the best version of Quake with a crappy emulated re-release of a game that never had a single port on more advanced systems.

Any game looks like it's aged like fine wine if you can run it at 200+ fps @ 4K. Goldeneye was forever stuck on the N64 but if you play it on a properly configured emulator, it looks and runs far better than this crappy re-release. I play it at locked 60fps, good resolution, no emulation bugs/glitches/extra jank and 100% modern dual analog controls for both movement and aiming, using my XBOX one controller. I don't feel like it's aged badly at all this way. In fact, it plays fantastic and i enjoy it just as much as all the great NightDive remasters.

it is not overated. At the time it was incredible. yes now it's dog crap but at the time, the level design the music, the multiplyer where amazing. To me a game is not overated if at the time it was head and shoulders above the rest (console, speaking)

Downloaded and played some of the xbla leaked version. Which is obviously better than these versions. I definitely see the appeal, particularly for those who played the original game. My first experience with Goldeneye was a couple of summers ago with the n64 multiplayer, a lot of fun was had.

Nah, of course I was a ps1 and PC guy back in the late 90s (long live jrpgs and voodoo gfx). Never played golden eye outside of a friends house. Was into quake 3 /unreal tornament for my multiplayer fix as a teen/twenty-something.

Golden eye was neat that a console had 4 player split screen but compared to quake and unreal, it was a crap shooter.

For people looking for some nostalgia, yeah I can relate. Hell the quake and doom releases did it for me as far as remade shooters, as well as Black Mesa. I'm sure you guys who loved Golden Eye back in the day will love it still.
My only question , does it have 4 player couch co-op on the switch. If so, it could be fun just for that.
