Thankfully OS X still has native OS X style menus. I hate when apps try to fake menus.

The changes on Windows are obviously to cater to touchscreens.

The new right click looks horrible in Windows... but I guess this OS was never good looking to begin with. Thank god the Mac menu didn't change.

Well I don't really hate it, it's just I get kinda jumpy when things change or act weird on my PC and Chrome never tells me it updated so I have no idea if something's not working right or just changed.

That's me 15 seconds ago.

Chrome should give you a little notification that it's downloading and installing a new update.

The automatic updates are aimed at computer illiterate users that never update anything and are prone to attacks from an outdated build.

If you guys are on the beta you shouldn't even be complaining about automatic updates.

New right click menu forced me to go back to firefox. :(

Wow, some people can't handle a little change like that? That's hilarious.

the dead zone above the first option is so freaking annoying.

right-click > open link in new t... nope, missed it.

Copy paste is broken on the android beta version. I know what you mean.

Other than that, I'm happily running the stable version for desktops.

Whenever I go on http://fr.yahoo.com/ with Chrome, it hangs and the page won't load properly. I can't even scroll nor close the tab. I actually have to kill the entire browser and restart it.

It's been happening for years, on different computers and different OSes. Is it happening for anyone else? It's annoying because Chrome is super fast and has the best synchronization system but if it can't even do properly the most basic thing -browsing- then I can't use it. That's the main reason I'm a Firefox user (I think Yahoo isn't the only page that's made Chrome hang but it's the most frequent offender).

Just tried it but I don't have that problem :/ Mac OSX, latest version of Chrome.
I do have a problem with every Google-related site though.

Because they made a right click menu look slightly different you changed browsers entirely? Huh. I didn't even notice it changed.

Yes. I use that menu quite often. The huge space is extraordinarily aggravating when you've used a maximum efficiency menu for 5+ years.

Since that design decision is based on pure idiocy (forcing tablet interface on a desktop user), can't be turned off/altered and directly affects my daily usage the choice is obvious.

Another victim of Windows 8.

My work computer on XP has this right click menu too...

My work PC on Win7 has the old windows-like settings/right click menus but my home PC on Win7 has the new one. Not sure why, both of them are on the stable release and up to date.

I'm SO stupid. It took me that long to think about testing my extensions and see if one of them caused my problem. Turns out I was right. I uninstalled Linkification and everything started working again.

Bye bye Firefox!!!

Edit: Is there an equivalent of DownloadHelper for Chrome?

Called it. It's a stupid reason because that GUI stuff should be handled by the OS. not the apps. SMH Microsoft. Doesn't 8 have context menus on the Metro side that are designed for touch? Why would Googlw want to implement it on the desktop side? So glad I'm on the Mac side where our touch OS and desktop OS are segregated like they should be.
Edit: Is there an equivalent of DownloadHelper for Chrome?
Nope sadly. Chrome doesn't offer access to the level required to detect what the URL for the video is. Shame. It's the only reason I keep Firefox around. Well, that and porn, but the two reasons are one and the same really.

On OS X I have HardwareGrowler which shows a little notification for me whenever a disk is mounted. Chrome mounts its installer invisibly so if I'm paying attention I will see it pop up for a second. Also, when its done installing its supposed to notify you with an orange arrow on the tools menu signifying that an update is ready.

I've had a weird problem in Chrome (DEV) on both my home PC and my work PC for months now.

When I visit sites like NeoGAF and Reddit there's a ton of extra space that shows up at the bottom of a page.

It's a giant white wall of scrollable nothing. It's not terrible on NeoGAF because of the fixed amount of posts on a page, but it's horrendous on Reddit, as it quite litteraly scrolls until the page stops rendering at all and I get a black frame.

No idea what causes it, but it happens on more than one computer in regular and in incognito modes.

Here's an example thumbnail that shows what I mean:

On a typical Reddit page it'll be MUCH, MUCH, longer at the bottom.

Sorry if it's been asked before, checked out the OP and didn't see it.

What's a good AddOn/Extension/PlugIn/Etc for Chrome to save all Images open in tabs?

Well, the new menu is really... odd, but I don't want to restore to the old one. Not because I think it was worse (I think it was better), but the command line won't be there forever (just like Aero Peek), so I may as well get used to it.

You said too little or too much. Please explain.
You keep all your porn segregated in a different browser and it keeps your history clear in your main one. Session storing takes care of the rest. Unfortunately the large amount of tabs I have in Firefox causes my memory to be sucked dry every time I open it until I quit it.

Just got the new right click menu on my work computer. Not okay, Google. If the computer doesn't have a touchscreen, then don't turn it on. Looks so out of place in a native environment.

Really? I almost want to switch to the Dev or Beta channel.
How stable are they?

Edit:

Chromium:
  • the open-source project on which Google Chrome is based;
  • bleeding-edge features;
  • several binary builds for Windows, Linux and Mac made available each day, sometimes 20 or more;
  • not considered stable, don’t blame the developers if it crashes your computer or eats your cat;

Google Chrome dev:
  • based on very recent Chromium builds;
  • new versions every week or so;
  • relatively stable, more like what other companies would consider ‘beta,’ but not stable enough for production use;
  • the latest and greatest features and updates;

Google Chrome beta:
  • based on stable developers channel releases;
  • new versions every month or so;
  • new features and bigger changes, known to work in the majority of cases;
  • stable enough for everyday use, crashes are few and far between;

Google Chrome stable:
  • based on tried-and-trusted beta versions; all known bugs ironed out, all new features tested for months before release;
  • new versions every few months;
  • as stable as Google Chrome gets, usable in any environment;

I guess I'll try out Chrome Beta. I'd like opinions on the Dev version, though.

How do you install (or where) the beta, dev or canary? I found a page but it just downlaod google chrome....

http://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel

just remember that you can't install stable/beta/dev side by side, you have to pick one.

Canary can be installed on it's own and you can continue to run another version of Chrome.

personally I have stable and canary installed. I use stable for day to day stuff and canary to play around with new features, see if bugs are fixed etc.

Embedded youtube videos no longer work for me?

If I right click on the video, it will open up the youtube menu like near the top of the screen.

Any ideas?

Not a fan of the new context menus. I found a possible way to revert it back, but how do I access shortcut properties?

I used to switch between all four versions willy-nilly back in the day. Settled on Stable a while ago when I had a problem with unstable ones that made them unusable. The only drawback to switching back and forth is corrupting your profile files when going backwards to a stable version. But since most of the important user data is usable between versions and most of it is stored on Google's servers it's doable with a little elbow grease. Been meaning to switch to Dev for a week or so when some big cool feature came along. (Like when the Dev channel added Lion Fullscreen and I couldn't wait to have it for the 6 weeks it would take to trickle down. Worth it.)

Has all the channels available.

Same for me. Once the embedded link is running, I can't interact with it. Whenever I right click on it, the menu opens at the top of the screen.
