I have 2 gigs of RAM. One of the reasons why I don't like using Chrome is because AD block isn't as good as it is in FF.
Copernicus said:I guess I'm trying to clarify, as it stands some of these webapps that Google has in the chrome, are just links then?
Just curious.
Andrex said:Yes. Some of them have potential to take advantage of Chrome app/extension's permissions system to offer more powerful functionality (or the same functionality, without all the recurring permission prompts.) Few of them take advantage of this, yet. The Google Apps suite of productivity software started adding stuff like offline functionality a month ago.
There's another type of app in the CWS that actually does download all its contents when installing, for easy offline functionality. Those apps are more comparable to apps on smartphones and such.

We really need a new thread with essential extensions in the OP.AlteredBeast said:Just switched from Firefox. It had been freezing in a not responding fashion for like 15 seconds every 5-10 minutes on my laptop. Completely unacceptable.
Chrome so far is alright. Small default text size! Tabs on top... hmmmm.. Take some time to get used to.
I am a lazy POS, what extensions should I get to get the most out of my Chrome experience? How about GAF extensions?

Not bad at all, but I do wish there was a way to enable private browsing so I wouldn't have to clear my history all the time
Didn't even know it did... that explains a bit. :lolTokubetsu said:Just wish quick reply didn't subscribe you to threads.

Sentry said:Ok, I just wanted to post in here that i've transitioned from Chrome (canary) to Safari, on Mac OS X Lion. Long time Chrome user, haven't used Safari since the 4 beta where they had the tabs on top (09?), but now it's too hard to resist. Barely tested Safari 5 before when I got Lion, so I finally decided to try it out, and it just stuck with me more tbh... here's most of my reasons why;
-The look. Although I like tabs on top more, and love chrome's style, Safari in general feels very 'Mac' like a native app, all in the details I suppose.
-Full Screen MB. The menu bar (on mouse-over) comes down as it does in Chrome FS, except it actually pushes the whole toolbar area/tabs down, and shows your bookmark bar at the same time; super useful.
-Pixel usage. In FS mode Safari uses less space than Chrome, and it is noticeable, big plus.
-Gestures. The way Safari handles it's back/forward using two fingers is awesome. It's very 'preview' like, and useful to 'peak' at the page previously without even loading it.
-Top Sites/Cover Flow. The way top sites are displayed is still as pretty as it was years ago, and the coverflow view when browsing your bookmarks and history is actually useful (unlike in finder).
-Auto-bubble-correction. This is something I like to see in TextEdit when I type, but it never showed in Chrome. Now when I type something suhc as such, it auto corrects it/remembers. Helpful stuff.
-Reader button. It shows up in the url bar on articles and certain pages, and instantly pops up a nice text/pic view of the article, really well done and instant.
-Downloads button. Love it, what more can be said.
-Extensions. I'm not really missing out on anything from Chrome with the support for extensions.
I could probably think of some other stuff i'm enjoying more in Safari than in Canary, but the point is, atm, Safari 5 out trumps Chrome on Lion, for me. Other than some style Chrome has, there's nothing it really has to keep me from Safari. The UI stuff in Canary (like fav sites view/web apps/bookmarks view) is horrible in comparison to Safari, at this stage.
However, I find the reading list an idiotic feature, as it doesn't take advantage of the reader view button or offline reading. I should be able to send a page into my reading list saved for offline in reader view.
Don't know how long until I switch back, if ever.
I maaay try to see what's going on with that and fix it if I have timeTokubetsu said:Yeah, it's a pain. I only use QR with threads I'm deep into/already subscribed to.
I agree right now, but the thing is, like before, in a couple of months, Chrome will have all these new features that Safari 5.1 is missing, and we won't see another major Safari update for another half a year.Sentry said:I posted this in the Lion thread and though it would be appropriate to quote it here, wanted some feedback from Mac Chrome users.
Just to jog my memory and get to into contrasting, what are some reasons why you guys feel Chrome is better (esp canary) than Safari, in terms of functionality/every day uses, etc.

added_time said:It's getting better. If you install the experimental build of adblock plus and enable the API in about:flags then it is able to block video ads and such just like in firefox.
The regular release of adblock plus will allow this soon but they are waiting for google to auto-enable the experimental API for the average user.

In-video ads were the only thing keeping me on Firefox. I can finally uninstall it and say goodbye now.
(Now if only Gaf could fix that shit in Chrome where sometimes when I click on "View first new post" it takes me to older posts...)

Well a lot of the NeoGAF scripts (like quick edit and auto-refresh) were not written by me so I can't really just put em in . But I want to eventually write up my own scripts for this stuff & add it in when I get some time.Jasoco said:Question: What GAF extension has the Quick Edit in place feature for Chrome?
I uninstalled my hacked together unified extension I had made for personal use from other extensions in favor of the NeoGAF Enhancements extension, but now I no longer have the Edit in Place feature. I don't even remember what extension it originally came from. And why isn't it part of the Enhancements extension? That's silly! It should be in there! As should the automatic refresh extension.
I have to go back to using the non-inline edit page which required me to remove its display:none CSS from the link so I can click it again. #FirstWorldProblems
Yeah, but which extension has the inline edit feature so I can install it again?Treefingers said:Well a lot of the NeoGAF scripts (like quick edit and auto-refresh) were not written by me so I can't really just put em in . Thanks! But how do I use the Quick Quote buttons? They don't seem to do anything.Treefingers said:
I like this extension except for the quick quote buttons being so big and obnoxiousTreefingers said:
I'm the author of this script, but I haven't used it on Canary. I don't even have it. I'm currently updating the script, as I finally updated my youtube one. If you go to the Console, is there anything about it?Jasoco said:Thanks! But how do I use the Quick Quote buttons? They don't seem to do anything.
Edit: Hmmm.. the Edit buttons don't work either. I don't think the JavaScript is running. I wonder if an extension is conflicting... Yep. It's not working at all. Nope. The extension/script does not work at all. I'm on Canary.
I've removed the quotation marks around the button, and the next version will have them a bit smaller. Also, I had originally made them with my custom CSS in mind.Mairu said:I like this extension except for the quick quote buttons being so big and obnoxious
